GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Found Items

This week, a cell phone, a girl's ring and a watch have been found in the school.  Please come to the office to claim them. 

Work Experience 12A & 12B Registration Deadline
Reminder that the Work Experience 12A & 12B registration deadline is September 30th! Employed students wishing to achieve work experience credits for this year must be registered by this date.  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre to register!

Physics 11
Any students interested in taking Physics 11 this semester: a new section has been opened up, due to student requests.  Please see one of our counsellors if you wish to add Physics 11 to your schedule.

Counselling Appointments
If you would like to see a counsellor for academic or personal reasons, please see Mrs Rhodes in the Career Centre (room 235) to book counselling appointments. 

Stagecraft and Musical Theatre
Stagecraft and Musical Theatre are after school courses that have started running, but it is not too late to join them. All students are welcome. Stagecraft is after school on MONDAYS and FRIDAYS for Grade 9s and WEDNESDAYS and FRIDAYS for Grade 10-12 in the theatre.  Musical Theatre is after school TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS in the theatre.

Trades Exploration Program
It's not too late to register for Claremont's TEX program, running all of Semester 2!  Seats are still available for the February start!  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and application packages.

Global Cafe
The Global Cafe is re-opening on MONDAY.  Come get coffee every morning until 9:00 in the IGS room 264.  $2/coffee, includes milk/sugar.  This is a fund-raiser for the IGS program.

Student Parking
Reminder to all students who are driving cars to school:  all cars must be registered if you are parking in the student parking lot.  Please come to the office to pick up your registration form.  Students are NOT permitted to park in the staff parking lot at any time.

CLUBS
A preliminary list of Claremont Clubs is posted in front of the Learning Commons.  Please take a look to discover many ways you can become involved at our school.  Stay tuned for details about an upcoming Clubs Showcase!

Robotics Club
If you signed up for the VEX Robotics Club, please go see Mr. Paananen in room 133 TODAY for next week's building schedule.

Science and Engineering Club
The Science and Engineering Club will be having its first meeting on TUESDAY Sept 19 during lunch in room 220. Any and all students are welcome.

Sign Language Club
Claremont's Sign Language Club will be starting up again in October.  No experience necessary.  Stay tuned for more information!

Improv Team
The Improv Team meets MONDAYS after school in the choir room; meetings run until 5:30pm.  This is a fun introduction to improvised theatre. We have fun activities, skill development, and competitions against other schools for a chance to compete nationally.  Come check out our first meeting this Monday.

ATHLETICS

All questions about tryouts and practices can be directed to the PE Office.


Cross Country: The cross country team is up and running and it's not too late to join.  There will be a meeting TODAY at lunch  in Mr. Nelson's room (137) to discuss the upcoming season and hand out the race schedule.  Hope to see you there. 

CAREER CENTRE
Food Safe Level 1 Training

Beacon Community Services is offering  Food Safe Level 1 training at the Shoal Centre in Sidney, on the Friday, October 20 Pro-D Day - 8:30- 4:30 pm .  Cost is $50.00  Visit the Career Centre for more info!

Aviation Careers
If you have an interest in Aviation, consider checking out the Victoria Flying Club Open House on Saturday, Sept. 16th from 11 am to 3 pm!  More information in the Career Centre.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Vancouver Island Model Engineers at the Saanich Historical Society is looking for volunteers to help with the preparation of their Halloween-themed decor for their Family Friendly Halloween Event - The Pumpkin Express!!  Students are needed for painting Halloween items, decorating the forest areas the train runs though, and volunteering during the event with supervision of craft tables, train track crossings, pumpkin carvings, haunted story walks, face painting and much more!  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Job Opportunities
See Mr Arsenault or Mrs Rhodes in the Career Centre for details about these and other job opportunities.

Organizer needed: A senior citizen at the Shoal Centre in Sidney needs help unpacking and organizing items.  2 hours @  $12.00/hour. If you like organizing, then consider helping out this senior in need.
Yard Work:  Help is needed to turn over compost, rake and do general cleanup of a well-maintained yard.        2 hours @ $13.00/hour.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Peninsula Youth Health Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic, is located at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney) every THURSDAY 6-8pm.  This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  Walk-ins are welcome. This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.  For more information, call or text 250-216-8389.
