GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
A Midsummer Night's Dream – Final Two Nights

There are only two performances left of Block 3 Year-Long Drama's “A Midsummer Night's Dream.” TONIGHT and SATURDAY NIGHT at 7:30pm.  All tickets are $7.50 at the door. This is a fun and funny show!!

Post-Secondary: The Inside Scoop
Grads of 2017 will be visiting Claremont on WEDNESDAY Dec. 20th  from 3:00–4:00 pm in the Learning Commons to share their first-term experiences in Post-Secondary.  Grade 12 and grade 11 students are encouraged to attend and hear their stories, advice, and words of wisdom.

Dropping a Semester 1 Class?
The last day for students to drop a semester 1 course is FRIDAY December 22nd.  Forms are available in the Career Centre.  After Dec. 22, students will not be allowed to drop a Semester 1 class.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Holiday Week

Student Government is hosting fun and festive events to celebrate the last week before the winter break.
MONDAY Dec 18 – Ornament-making contest at lunch in the lounge. Bring your imagination!  Ornaments will be hung in the school for the rest of the week for all to enjoy!
TUESDAY Dec 19 – Christmas Lip-Sync Battle at lunch in the theatre. ** Make sure you sign up on the performers list posted on the theatre door.
WEDNESDAY Dec 20 – Snowflake-making contest at lunch in the lounge.  Snowflakes will be hung in the school for the rest of the week for all to enjoy!
THURSDAY Dec 21 – “The Grinch” movie (animated version) in the theatre at lunch.
FRIDAY Dec 22 – Ugly Sweater and Santa Hat Day!! HO HO HO!!!

CLUBS
Math Club - Math Challengers

Math Challengers is a team competition that is open to grade 9 students.  It takes place at Camosun College in February, but the registration deadline is MONDAY December 18th.  Any grade 9 student who is interested, please sign up this week on the math contest board outside room 133, or talk to Mr. Skanks in room 130.

Warm Clothes for Cold People - YCI
YCI is looking for anyone and everyone to donate new or gently used warm clothing to the Out of the Rain Youth Shelter.  Useful items include: clean, warm socks, sleeping bags, hoodies, t-shirts, warm jackets, toques, and gloves. Look for the collection bins in front of the office.

ATHLETICS
Senior Boys Basketball

Come out TONIGHT to cheer on the Senior Boys Basketball team as they host Fleetwood Park here at Claremont at 6pm.

CAREER CENTRE
Volunteer and Job Opportunities

There are several job and volunteer opportunities available over the holiday break.  Help out with the
BC Aviation Museum Kids Fest or New Year's Tea at the Mary Winspear Centre, or make a little extra cash helping Sidney residents with inside and outside work!.  Check out the postings in the Career Centre.

Basics of Finance - Free Training
New Basics of Finance training course! You will learn all about credit cards, pre-paid cards and loans, the advantages and disadvantages, what to look for and how to calculate the “real” cost of a loan. Saturday January 27th 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney.  More information in the Career Centre.

GRAD 2018
Grad Portrait Retakes

If you missed getting your grad portraits taken, or if you need retake grad photos taken, Lifetouch is returning to Claremont with their portable photo studio for two days only:  January 22 & 23.  You can book your appointment online now by going to www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.

Grad Transition
We now have over 50 completed Grad Transitions!  Yay!  Congratulations to those grade 12s who submitted their GT forms!  There are still approximately 230 more to be done.  Graduation Transition is a grad requirement.  Get your GT done while you can still arrange for your own transition interview with a staff member of your choice.   Grad Transition forms are available from the Career Centre or from the Claremont Careers web-site.

Dry Grad Fundraiser – Thrifty Smile Cards
Thrifty Smile Cards are available in the office for families (all grades) who would like to support Claremont's All Night Dry Grad 2018.

Peninsula Youth Health Clinic – New Hours

Important: Hours have changed - The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is now open every Thursday from 5-7pm. Walk in's are welcome, but if you are interested in booking an appointment or would like more info, call the clinic at 250-656-4114.  Location: at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney)   This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.
