GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
FoodSafe Certificates

Could anyone who completed their FoodSafe last semester please go see Ms. O'Brien or Ms. Yager in the foods office to pick up their certificate.

Blood Donation Clinic
On MONDAY Feb 19 – there will be a Blood Donation Clinic in the Learning Commons.  Donors must be at least 17yrs old to donate.  See Ms Chapman in room 136 or in the the student lounge at lunch this week to book an appointment or to ask questions.

England & France – Spring 2019
Travel to England and France next spring for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.  Parents can find out more information TOMORROW NIGHT (Thursday) at Meet the Teacher Night in room 327 with Mr Gardner.....or email dgardner@sd63.bc.ca

Ecuador and Coastal Peru – Summer or 2019
Interested in participating in a biological scientific expedition to Ecuador and coastal Peru in the summer of 2019? You will have the opportunity to work with scientists from around the world, visit one of the most biodiverse hotspots in the world, see large cats and primates, and snorkel with giant manta rays. For more information, see Mr. Homan in room 203 or Ms. McAvoy in room 200. There will be an informational meeting on MONDAY, Feb. 19th at 7:30 pm in the Learning Commons for all interested students, along with their parents.

Musical Theatre Presents “Annie”
Claremont's Musical Theatre program presents “Annie.”  Tickets are now on sale through Mrs. Marshall in the accounting office; call 250-658-6672.  7pm shows run Feb 28 - March 3, and March 7-10. Additional 1pm matinees on March 3 & 10 .Tickets are $15 Adults / $12.50 for Students/Seniors/Children 12 and under (groups of 10 or more, $12 each).   Open seating. Plan early; this show is sure to sell out!!

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Valentines Day Fun

Student Government has planned some fun events to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Carnations
Surprise your friends with a Valentine carnation!  Carnations will be on sale at lunch time starting TODAY until TUESDAY Feb 13, and all carnations will be delivered on Valentine’s Day, WEDNESDAY Feb 14th in block 3.  Carnations are $2 at the box-office in front of the theatre; it is important to know what class your friend has in block 3 when buying a carnation.
Heart-Making
There will be a “heart-making event” on TUESDAY Feb 13 at lunch in the lounge. Get creative!
Dating Game
Our annual Dating Game will be on Valentine’s Day, WEDNESDAY Feb 14th  in the theatre at lunch time. Come by to see Cupid in action!

Math Clubs – Contests

The Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contest registration deadline is this FRIDAY. If you were considering trying this contest, please sign up this week outside room 133, or talk to Mr. Skanks.

Girls Rugby

For all GIRLS interested in playing rugby: there is a brief but important meeting TODAY at lunch in the small gym.  All girls welcome, no experience necessary.

Job Fair – Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens is hosting a Job Fair on TUESDAY, February 20th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm., in the Coffee Shop. They are recruiting for spring and summer jobs in most departments, with wages starting at $15.00 per hour.  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Aviation Summer Camp for Girls
An amazing opportunity for girls entering Grade 10 in September 2018!  NAV CANADA is sponsoring a Summer Camp for 20 girls from across Canada for one week of learning, fun, and friendship with a focus on aviation.  This all-expenses-paid camp uses hands-on learning and hopes to inspire you to explore a career in aviation!  Visit the Career Centre for more information on how to apply.

Soldier For A Day - Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve
The Soldier For A Day work-study program is taking place SATURDAY, Feb. 24th at the Bay Street Armoury in Victoria.  See how a soldier is trained and some of the things they do as part of the CAF. Participants will be given the opportunity to see some of the equipment and vehicles used and may also experience a portion of the annual fitness test or receive basic instruction in marching and drill. They will also get a closer look at all the different educational and job opportunities offered by the local Army Reserve units.  More information and application forms are available from the Career Centre.

Women in Trades and Technology
Grade 9 -12 girls interested in attending the Trade and Technology Exploration Day at Camosun College, on Wednesday, Feb 21st., please sign up in the Career Centre and pick up information and permission forms asap, as space is limited.  Bus transportation and lunch will be provided on this day!  This is a chance to check out important and well paying careers in the following:
Trades - Electrical, Auto Service, Sheet Metal/Metal Fab, and Carpentry.
Technology- Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.

GRAD 2018
Grad Transition

Congratulations to the almost 70 Grade 12s who have completed their GT!! Remember that Grad Transition is a grad requirement.  Work on completing your GT sooner than later so you can choose who to have your Exit Interview with.  Otherwise, a formal interview will be scheduled for you in April. Get your GT forms from the Career Centre.

Dry Grad Meeting
Are you the parent of a Grade 12 student? We'd love to share our plans for Dry Grad 2018 with you! Please join us at the Parent After Grad Committee Meeting on TUESDAY February 13, at 7pm, in the Claremont Learning Commons. Parents of all grades are invited. We'd love to see everyone! We're excited to share the plans that we've made, and to let you know the areas in which we need assistance.
If your student is on the Grade 12 Grad Executive Committee, please ask them to join us, as we would love their input on what we have so far.

Dry Grad: Year-Long Fundraisers
Thrifty Smile Cards are available in the office for families (all grades) who would like to support Claremont's Dry Grad 2018.
Return It Bottle Depot - Dropping off bottles? Why not donate to the Claremont Dry Grad 2018 account? How?  At the beginning of the transaction please state that funds are to be donated to "Claremont Grad 2018."  Families of all grades are welcome to participate.

The Mt. Washington trip for International Students is Feb 28 - March 1st. Ask Brenda for the consent package and details. DON'T delay....the packages & payment are due by Friday February 9th.

Student Casting Call: Season 4 of “The Wealthy Life”

Here is a chance to feel like a movie star, get expert advice on your financial situation and help fellow Canadians. The Wealthy Life is looking for applicants to sit in the well-known white chair to have a casual and informative chat with financial guru, Sybil Verch, in front of the camera. As a guest on The Wealthy Life, you will first have a one-on-one call with Sybil to discuss your situation and big questions before filming. Then, for a few hours during the week of May 14-18, you will be invited to The Wealthy Life's set (in Victoria) for the filming of your segment.  Once all the "hard" work is over, you get to sit back, relax, and see your face on our social media channels and, of course, on TV!  The best benefit of all is knowing that your participation in The Wealthy Life will help Canadians across the country be better equipped to make smart money decisions and achieve their financial goals and dreams!

Parenting Conference

Youth Clinic
The main Victoria Youth Clinic is open to all youth and is located at  818 Douglas Street on the 3rd floor. It is open Monday to Thursday 11-5 and Friday 11-4.
