Bee Aware

There have been lots of bees showing up, now that Spring has finally arrived.  Be aware of your surroundings and, if you are prone to lots of swelling if you get stung, consider having a small supply of antihistamine in your locker.

Day of Silence – Today
If you would like to participate or support today’s Day of Silence to spread awareness about the effects of the bullying and harassment of LGBTQ+ students, please come sign up at the Ridge Box office TODAY at lunch.

Learning Commons: Twitter Contest & Poetry Month
Want to win movie passes to see the latest Marvel Movie? All you have to do is follow the Learning Commons’ new Twitter account @SD63ClaremontLC to enter. Talent Show

The Spring Talent Show is taking a few days’ break and will continue on MONDAY at lunch hour.  Come to the theatre to watch some great talent!

CLUBS
Biology Club Meeting Today

Interested in anything to do with biology? Come to the inaugural meeting of the brand new Biology Club where you will have the opportunity to explore some of the fascinating intricacies of all things living. Potential opportunities may include visits to university biology facilities, local attractions (Shaw Centre, Bug Zoo, Butterfly Gardens, etc.), a trip to Botanical beach/Avatar grove, local beaches for beach clean-ups and many more opportunities.  Come to our first meeting TODAY at lunch in room 203 for more information.

Junior Girls Soccer

Huge congratulations to our Junior Girls Soccer team! Great win on Wednesday!!  We will have a brief meeting on MONDAY at lunch.  The next game is Tuesday!! Get some rest!

CAREER CENTRE
UVic Registration 101

Students already registered or thinking about registering with UVic are invited to attend a Registration 101 presentation on TUESDAY, May 15 at lunch in the Learning Commons. Save the date!

OSEF Student Exchange - Application Deadline
There is still time to apply for a 2018/2019 exchange to Europe with OSEF. Experience France, Belgium or Spain for 1 month this summer or 11 weeks next year with a reciprocal exchange program. Application submission deadline is approaching quickly. Please see Mrs. Rhodes in the Career Centre for more information.

Face-Painting Training
There will be a FREE Professional Face Painting workshop on Saturday May 26, 2018, 1:00-3:00 pm at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney. Learn how the professionals do it and help at the summer markets or start your own business! Visit the Career Centre for more info.

Be A Buddy for a Japanese Student
Students, 15-19 years old, are needed to Be A Buddy for a group of visiting Japanese students July 5, 6, and 7th. English must be your first language. Approx. 4 hours per day at $12.00 per hour, lunch included as well as admission to various sightseeing locations. Training provided. Visit the Career Centre for application information.

Weekend yard work: A View Royal resident is looking to hire a student to do some weekend yard work (weeding and general yard clean-up). Competitive wage.

Dan's Farm & Country Market, located on the corner of Bear Hill and Oldfield roads, is hiring!  They are looking for individuals enthusiastic about local fruits and vegetables!  Help is needed 2 to 5 days per week, from 9 or 10 am to 4 or 5:30 pm.  Must be available weekends and holidays over the summer - (the market is open every day!).

Volunteer Opportunities
Check out several volunteer opportunities posted in the Career Centre. Lots to choose from - help with face painting at the Brentwood Bay Festival, be a Green Team member at Rock the Shores, or help at the Victoria Canada Day Celebrations! 

GRAD 2018
Scholarship Meeting

For all grade 12’s who are interested in money for post-secondary: the next scholarship meeting is MONDAY April 30 at lunch in room 327 (Mr Gardner’s room).  We will talk about new scholarships, the PAC awards, and STA awards.

Grad Packages Due TODAY
Reminder to all grads to make sure you return your grad packages (all forms and payment) to the Accounting office.  Deadline is TODAY.
Also, the deadline to submit grad introductions for the ceremony are also due TODAY; they are to be submitted on the Grad Page of the Claremont website.

Dry Grad Planning 2018
The Dry Grad Planning Committee invites all parent/guardians of the 2018 Grad class to follow the Claremont Dry Grad Facebook page to keep informed on the planning of the All Night Dry Grad at UVic, Thursday June 28th.

Dry Grad Fundraiser – 50/50 Raffle Sales Deadline: May 3rd
The Parent After Grad Committee is having a 50/50 Raffle. Tickets are $5 each.   If grads or parents would like to sell tickets, they are distributed in books of 10 and can be picked up from Lisa Wergeland. Please contact her at ohmysoul@shaw.ca     Brenda Chan, PAC Chair, will draw the winning ticket on May 8th at the Dry Grad Committee meeting. We have a gaming license to sell $18,000 worth of tickets. Students 13 & older may sell and purchase tickets. Potential winnings are based solely on sales; one prize, half of the ticket sales. Good luck!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.

Youth Clinic
The main Victoria Youth Clinic is open to all youth and is located at  818 Douglas Street on the 3rd floor. It is open Monday to Thursday 11-5 and Friday 11-4.
