GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Learning Commons

New hours in the Learning Commons are effective starting TODAY.  Please see the new schedule posted on the L/C doors.

Spartan Day – Toonies for Terry
Spartan Day was a great success last week, celebrating being a Spartan and raising $2000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Spring Break NEW YORK Parent Meeting
Mr. Plant will be hosting a meeting for interested parents and students about the New York 2019 Spring Break trip, this FRIDAY October 12th at 5pm in the theatre.  While the meeting is designed for parents and students who have NOT already registered, anyone is welcome to attend.  If you cannot attend but want more info, please email Mr. Plant at cplant@saanichschools.ca
The deadline for signing up is the end of October.

Grade 9 Immunization Forms
Immunization forms from Island Health were handed out to grade 9 students last week.  Please be sure to get them signed by a parent or guardian and return them to the school office this week.

Dual Credit Courses for Second Semester
All students taking Criminology and Business Dual Credit Camosun courses in 2nd semester: please meet on WEDNESDAY at the start of lunch in computer lab 225.
All students taking Psychology 140 in 2nd semester: please meet on THURSDAY at the start of lunch in computer lab 225.  These are both important registration meetings.

Numeracy Exam
In addition to the normal January and June exam sessions, Claremont will also be offering a chance to write the Numeracy Exam on November 5. If writing in January or June does not work for you, or if you would like an extra opportunity to score well on this exam, please sign up in the office.  Space is limited to 30 students in a morning session, and 30 in an afternoon session.

Student I.D. Cards
There are lots of student I.D. cards that have not been picked up yet. Please come to the office to get yours!! Did you know many businesses give discounts and deals to students that show current school I.D.?  I.D. cards are also the main reason why lost wallets and purses get returned to students!!

Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to our September "Spartan Athletes of the Month."  You can read more about their accomplishments in the display cases outside the gyms.

Field Hockey
Field Hockey players: we have a practice TODAY at 3:40 and a game on THURSDAY at GNS (you need to be excused from class at 2:35 for the game).  We need parent drivers for the game!
Field hockey players who are going to camp Qwanoes: please give your uniforms to Ms. Taylor so we have enough for the game.

CAREER CENTRE
Training Opportunity

Alert First Aid with CPR "C" & AED.  There are seats still available for this first aid training session on Saturday, Oct. 20th at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney.  Cost is $50. Visit the Career Centre for registration information.

On-call weekend server is needed at SHOAL Centre in Sidney. $16.58/ hour. Come work in the dining room where residents and customers enjoy meals together. The Food Service Worker performs a variety of food service duties, and may assist Cooks in food preparation. Must be minimum 16 years of age, have FOODSAFE certification and First Aid.
SCP Cafe at Saanich Commonwealth Place is hiring for help on weekdays and weekends. Shifts are 4-6 hours in length at $12.65/ hour.
Canadian Tire @ Broadmead is getting ready to gear up for the Xmas season and is looking to hire for 6-8 cashier positions!  Part-time employees are expected to be available at least one weekend day and either one of Thursday or Friday nights, with more shifts available if desired.

Oktoberfest at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney - Saturday, October 17th.  2 volunteers needed 4:45pm to 8:00 pm, showing guests the coat rack and to their tables, ensuring water and coffee are available and helping to clear tables. Dinner is free for volunteers.

Trade Program Seats at Camosun
Camosun College still has seats available for 2019 intakes of SIP (South Island Partnership) Programs in: Carpentry Foundation; Cook Foundation; Electrical Foundation; Fine Furniture; Joinery; Piping Foundation; Refrigeration; Sheet Metal Foundation; and Welding Foundation. Get more information about receiving both high school and college credits and free tuition with these programs from Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
