GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
ScreamFest – TONIGHT

TONIGHT is the last night for the ScreamFest Halloween event!  Come check out the amazing new mid-way games and an expanded and improved Haunted Walk.  Tickets will be on sale at lunch at the Spartan Store AND in the Accounting office.  $10 per person.
Many students bought their tickets as part of their school fees. Those students can claim their ticket at the Spartan Store, but must present their student card as I.D. to do so.

Pizza Fundraiser Today
The Senior Boys Basketball TRAVEL team will be selling pizza TODAY at lunch in the cafeteria. Come grab a couple of slices and support the student-athletes!

AP Physics – Meeting TODAY
All students who have signed up for AP Physics in semester 2: there is an important meeting TODAY at lunch in room 133.

District Hairdressing Program
Any students interested in the dual credit Cosmo/Hairdressing Program, offered by SD#63 in partnership with Vancouver Island University, please see Mr. Arsenault  in the Career Centre to sign up for the Feb. 2019 start!

Grade 9 Immunization Forms
If there are any signed immunization forms still in your backpacks, please return them to the school office today.  The Public Health Nurse will be picking up these forms on Monday.

Beef Jerky - Fundraiser
The Senior Boys Basketball ‘Travel Team’ will be selling Beef Jerky products at lunch TODAY in the lounge. Snacks range from $2 - $3.50.

CLUBS
Spirit Squad: Halloween Events

Spirit Squad has some Halloween events for you next week!!
MONDAY is Blackout Day: wear all black and come watch Ghostbusters in the theatre at lunch.

TUESDAY is Meme Day:  that's right, dress up as your favourite Meme.
TUESDAY: there will be a pie-eating contest at lunch in the lounge.
WEDNESDAY is Halloween: wear your costume to school and come to the annual Costume Contest at lunch in the big gym.

Key Club: UNICEF Boxes
The Key Club has teamed up with UNICEF - an international organization that works to improve the lives of children and their families. Please donate any change you may have into the small orange box sitting on your teacher's desk until Nov.1st. Thank you.

Key Club: Cans for Candy
In support of the Key Club's Trick or Eat campaign, the Learning Commons will be accepting canned and non-perishable goods from Monday, October 29 until Wednesday, October 31.  In exchange, you will get a small treat bag and will be helping someone in need! See the posters around the school for the list of most needed items.

Knitting Club
The Claremont Knitting Club meets MONDAY at lunch in Ms. Tong's room (323). Beginners are welcome. Experienced knitters are also needed! See Ms. Tong for details.

CAREER CENTRE
Art Colleges Fair – Nov. 28

Students interested in Art and Design: mark your calendars for the Art Colleges Fair on Wednesday, November 28th at St. Michael's University School, from 6:00-7:30 pm! This art fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about a number of art and design programs in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the Career Centre for a list of the art schools that will be participating.

University Visits
A representative from Queen's University International Campus, (Bader) will be at Claremont TODAY after school in the Student Lounge. Grade 11s and 12s are invited to stop by to find out about international university study opportunities with Queen's!  Queen's University is the only university in Canada where students can complete their first year of study overseas.

A representative from the University of British Columbia will be at Claremont on WEDNESDAY,  October 31 after school in the Learning Commons.  Find out all you need to know about admissions and programs offered at UBC!

A representative from University of Victoria will be at Claremont on FRIDAY Nov. 2 at lunch in the Learning Commons  There will be a presentation with information all about UVic and the rep will be happy to answer any questions. Save the date!

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer hours can count toward Grad Transition requirements and/or are a necessary requirement for some university program admissions. The Career Centre has information about various volunteer opportunities for students, including the following:

Fire/Rescue Camp
Applications for the March 2019 Fire/Rescue Camp are now being accepted. If you have ever wondered what it's like to run into a building that everyone else is running out of, dreamed of using an extrication tool to cut up a car and access a victim, imagined handling a hose so powerful that it takes two people to hold it, or thought you could dangle off a rope 50 feet in the air.... then consider applying for the Gulf Island Fire/Rescue Camp! This 51/2 day camp takes place during Spring Break and qualifies you to 100 Work Experience hours (4 school credits), as well as a certificate of completion. Deadline to apply is November 8!  Application forms are in the Career Centre; see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre.

GRAD 2019
Grad Transition

Grad Transition is a graduation requirement. Pick up your GT forms from the Career Centre and work on completing them soon while you can arrange for your own interview. Formal interviews will be scheduled in April, with members of the community, for students who wait. Don't delay! Get your GT done today!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
