Toys 4 Teens – Until Dec 12
Three more days to donate to our Toys 4 Teens Donation Drive. Please donate $10 gift cards for Teens in Need in your Block 1 class. A few ideas include gift cards for: music, books, coffee shops, movies, clothing, sporting goods, cosmetics, etc. There are lots of good ideas out there! The winning class will attend the wrap-up event at Mayfair Mall on Dec. 14.  This event is in collaboration with the Zone's Annual Toy Drive. Thank you for your support of this great cause and for sharing the Spartan Spirit.

It's a Wonderful Life – Final Week
Claremont Year-Long Drama’s presentation of the classic story, “It’s A Wonderful Life” continues this week in the Ridge Playhouse, Dec 12-15 nightly at 7:30pm.  All tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. If you bring a non-perishable food item to donate, you can have your ticket price reduced by 50 cents for each item (maximum discount $5). This play is appropriate for all ages, and this is a wonderful way to launch into the holiday season. Please come support Claremont Fine Arts!

Looking for a peer tutor for Math 10 in block 1.  If you can help, please see Ms Giese or Ms Herrmann.

Dropping a Semester 1 Class?
The last day for students to drop a semester 1 course is FRIDAY December 21st.  Forms are available in the Career Centre. After Dec. 21, students will not be allowed to drop a Semester 1 class and their marks will be on their report cards.

Beef Jerkey Fundraiser
Come support the Claremont Senior Boys “travel” team as they sell all different kinds of beef jerky at a discounted price TODAY at lunch in the lounge. ALL inventory must go!!!!

It's Cold Season
Please be mindful that during cold season it is important to get plenty of rest, eat healthy foods, and wash your hands often. Situated throughout the school are hand sanitizer stations; please take advantage of these stations and keep your hands clean. It is a key component to staying healthy.

Documentary Film Opportunity -Tonight
You are invited to see a documentary film, Picking up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket, in the Ridge Theatre TONIGHT @ 7:00pm. Claremont is very lucky to be the very first school in the country to secure the screening of this film. The Witness Blanket is an art installation (now permanently housed at the Canadian Museum for Human Right in Winnipeg) that features actual physical pieces of every Residential School in Canada, collected and woven together by local artist Carey Newman. After the film there will be a short Q&A session with Carey Newman.

If you would like your locker (or your friend's locker) decorated in festive wrapping paper, this is the final week to place your order.  TODAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY,  head over to the Key Club table outside the large gym. Lockers are $2.

CAREER CENTRE
Job Opportunity

Island Health is looking for for student Test Shoppers for their Tobacco and Vapour Prevention and Control Program. Students aged between 14 and 18 conduct compliance checks on retail outlets in the Southern Vancouver Island area.  This is a paid (part-time) position of approx, $14.00 per hour.  More information and application details available in the Career Centre.

High Tech U
Applications for UVic's High Tech U Program are available from the Career Centre. HighTech U is an initiative of the UVic Computer Science Dept. This 3-step program includes a an 8-week paid summer internship working in the the high-tech industry. Once completed, graduates of the internship will be eligible for a post-secondary award towards their first-year tuition at UVic.  Application submissions are due December 31st.  Visit the Career Centre or see Mr. Beeston for more information.

University of Alberta - Gr. 11 Opportunity
The University of Alberta is offering interested Grade 11 students a chance for an all expenses paid trip to visit the University of Alberta during the weekend of May 24-26, 2019!  This trip only has 20 seats available, so don't delay! Apply by February 10, 2019, at UAB.CA/BOARDING.

Volunteer Opportunity
Do you like to wrap presents? Volunteers are needed for the Spirit of Giving Gift Wrap, run by The Mustard Seed Street Church. Volunteers wrap the presents of busy Christmas shoppers by donation, with all proceeds going to The Mustard Seed!  Shifts run December 1st to 24th, and there are a variety of shifts open at Mayfair Mall and Hillside Mall. The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
