GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Student Parking

Reminder to students that they should only be parking in the Student Parking Lot or on the road.  The staff parking lot is reserved for staff cars only.

Class of 2020
Grade 11 students: there will be a Grad 2020 Executive meeting TOMORROW (Friday) at lunch in room 310 for everyone interested in being involved in Grad 2020.

Learning Commons
Check out the Staff Shout-Out board in the Learning Commons!  Write a note to any staff that made a positive impact on you this year!

Spring Music Concert – Tonight
The Claremont Concert Band and Choir will be performing their Spring Music Concert TONIGHT in the Ridge Theatre, with a guest appearance from the Greater Victoria Concert Band.  The concert begins at 7:00 pm and admission is by donation.  Please come enjoy the musical talents of our band and choir students!

‘On The Wall’ Visual Arts Showcase - Tonight
Claremont’s visual arts showcase, On The Wall, is TONIGHT 6:00-8:00 pm in the Learning Commons.  Please come enjoy the artistic talents of our art students.  Tickets are $5 at the door.

Night Of Dance  - June 12 & 13
Night of Dance is next week on June 12 & 13 at 7pm. Tickets go on sale this Friday at lunch in the Student Lounge. Only $5 for Claremont Students.

Trades Exploration - Semester 2
Have you thought about a career in the trades?  Not sure if it will be right for you? Get samples of Welding, Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing through our Semester 2 TEx Program!  Earn work experience credits and learn about the steps to apprenticeship and Red Seal Certification. There's still time to register! See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre or meet with your school counsellor.

Camosun Food Truck – June 12
The Catering class will be working with the Camosun Cuisine Machine to serve lunch on WEDNESDAY June 12, serving a variety of tacos, drinks and sweets.  Taco Party Menus are posted around the school.  The food truck will be set up outside the student lounge.

Timetables for 2019/2020
There will be a HomeRoom NEXT FRIDAY June 14 in the last 10 minutes of block 3 to hand out preliminary timetables for next school year.

Vaccination Records from the Public Health Nurse
Student vaccination records (from the Public Health Nurse) will be handed out in HomeRoom NEXT FRIDAY June 14,  in the last 10 minutes of block 3. 

Yearbooks
There is still time to order a yearbook.  See Ms Marshall in the Accounting office. Cost is $45.  She can also confirm if you already paid for one, or not!!

School Bus Registration for 2019-2020
Registration is now open for students riding school buses.  The Link to register can be found on the SD63 website, under Programs and Services, Transportation.  If you have further transportation questions, try their Frequently Asked Questions link or contact the Transportation Department at 250-652-7343 or via email at transportation@saanichschools.ca
Note: the transportation office will not contact riders unless there is a problem with the registration form.  Students must be registered by June 29, 2018 to ensure a seat on the bus.

ATHLETICS
Girls Lacrosse

Good luck to the girls lacrosse team as they head off to California TOMORROW for their lacrosse tournament.  This is a great chance to play in some high level games and be seen by some college coaches.  Go Spartans!!

Golf Team
Congratulations to the Claremont Golf Team who won the "AAA" BC High School Golf Championships in Squamish this week. Five players were allowed to compete on each team, and the best four scores counted each day for a two-day total of eight scores.
After day one, the Spartans had a combined total of 306, two shots behind Vancouver College and St. George's who were tied with a score of 304. On day two, Claremont shot a four player total of one over (72, 72, 72, 73 =289) and threw away a score of 75.  Willy Bishop was the BC Individual Bronze Medalist with a two day score of 144 (72/72).

Volunteer Opportunities

Here are some opportunities for earning volunteer hours to go towards your high school requirements.  Visit the Career Centre for more information about these and other volunteer opportunities.
Summer Camps (August) at UVic.  The Faculty of Humanities at UVic seeks volunteers for its SCAMPS summer camps programs, provided to children between ages 5-12. We prefer that our volunteers commit to at least one full week, but are flexible concerning work hours. If you are a responsible, reliable high school student who is good with kids energetic and enthusiastic, then this could be a great opportunity for you! Comic Con (in Sidney).  THIS SUNDAY, June 9th, 10:00 am - 9:00 pm, various shifts available. Help with: front door, games room, Cosplay Contest; Set-up/take-down/clean-up.

Canada Day Pancake Breakfast @ Mary Winspear Centre, Sidney.  MONDAY July 1st, 7:30 am - 11:00 am. Help the Lions Club serve up pancakes and sausages to families before the Canada Day Parade; then after the parade,  you can also serve up hamburgers at the Lunchbox in Iroquois Park! 

Job Opportunity
The Beach House Restaurant on Cordova Bay Rd is looking to fill a few dishwasher positions for the summer!  Part time or full time, $14 per hour + tips.  Flexible scheduling, free staff meal per shift, a fun local environment! Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Skills Ready Summer Work Experience Project
Are you planning on getting a job over the summer?  Are you interested in skilled trades work?  This summer, Skills Ready is helping young people who are in grade 10 and 11 connect with seasonal work experience. Employers in the construction, manufacturing and automotive sectors across BC have expressed interest in helping to build the next generation of skilled workers by offering summer work to interested students!  Work a minimum of 6 weeks, (3 or more days per week). This could potentially continue over multiple summers and possibly result in apprenticeship!  Applications are now being accepted until June 16th. Camosun Summer Career Exploration Programs
Students born between January 2004 and December 2006 can have fun, learn new skills & explore exciting career areas during the summer at Camosun College.

Aug. 19-23: Carpentry.

Naval Recruitment Information – June 11
Naval Recruitment representatives will be visiting Claremont on TUESDAY, June 11th at lunch.  An information booth will be set up in the Student Lounge, and a Navy Bus, loaded with naval equipment and information, will also be available for students to learn more about careers in the Navy!

Encounters With Canada
Encounters With Canada is now accepting applications for their 2019/2020 programs. Spend an amazing week in Ottawa for an experience in one of a variety of themes: Sports & Fitness, Science & Ecology, Global Affairs, or Law & Our Justice System. Right now they have an offer of $100 off the regular cost of food and accommodation. Air travel to Ottawa is paid for. The first Sports & Fitness theme week runs Aug. 25th to Sept 7th.  The earlier you apply, the better chance of getting into your top choice. Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
