A girl’s silver ring has been lost in the school.  The ring has a pattern of two celtic knots and an emerald, and it has deep sentimental value.  If you have found this ring, please help out your fellow student and return it to the office.

Timetables for 2019/2020
There will be a Home Room THIS FRIDAY June 14 in the last 10 minutes of block 3 to hand out preliminary timetables for next school year.

Vaccination Records from the Public Health Nurse
Grades 10, 11, 12:  Student vaccination records (from the Public Health Nurse) will be handed out in Home Room THIS FRIDAY June 14,  in the last 10 minutes of block 3. 

Exam Schedule
The exam schedule has been posted on the front page of the Claremont Website.  Please triple check the days, times and locations of your exams.  If students need to add a Numeracy Assessment or write an exam in a conflict time slot, there is a sign-up sheet at the front office.

Night Of Dance  - June 12 & 13
The second show of Night of Dance is TONIGHT at 7pm. Tickets are on sale TODAY at lunch in the Student Lounge. Only $5 for Claremont Students.

Check out the Staff Shout-Out board in the Learning Commons!  Write a note to any staff that made a positive impact on you this year!

Grade 12 Work Experience
There are a number of Grade 12s who have not completed their WEX 12A or WEX 12B.  Please see Mr. Arsenault and do this as soon as possible!

Trades Exploration - Semester 2
Have you thought about a career in the trades?  Not sure if it will be right for you? Get samples of Welding, Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing through our Semester 2 TEx Program!  Earn work experience credits and learn about the steps to apprenticeship and Red Seal Certification. There's still time to register! See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre or meet with your school counsellor.

There is still time to order a yearbook.  See Ms Marshall in the Accounting office. Cost is $45.  She can also confirm if you already paid for one, or not!!

Appropriate Clothing
Reminder that with the warm weather upon us, that Claremont School is a place of business and we ask that students wear appropriate clothing. Ask yourself if your clothing choice is something that you would wear to your job? If the answer is ‘no’ then it is probably not appropriate for school either.
The following is the Dress Code as listed in Claremont’s Code of Conduct: “School is a place of business. Students and their parents are expected to support a learning environment where attire is appropriate. Articles of clothing that promote alcohol, drugs, inappropriate language or racism, or that are too revealing are not permitted. Students wearing such clothing will be asked to go home and change if they do not have suitable clothing at school.”

Student Parking
Reminder to students that they should only be parking in the Student Parking Lot or on the road.  The staff parking lot is reserved for staff cars only.

School Bus Registration for 2019-2020
Registration is now open for students riding school buses.  The Link to register can be found on the SD63 website, under Programs and Services, Transportation.  If you have further transportation questions, try their Frequently Asked Questions link or contact the Transportation Department at 250-652-7343 or via email at transportation@saanichschools.ca
Note: the transportation office will not contact riders unless there is a problem with the registration form.  Students must be registered by June 29, 2018 to ensure a seat on the bus.

Athletic Sports Awards & Banquet

The Claremont Athletic Sports Banquet is on TUESDAY, June 18th from 4:30-6:30 pm in the big gym. Everyone is invited and, if you played a sport for Claremont, we would expect that you will be there. The itinerary includes honouring all of our teams, awarding MVPs, Jr. and Sr. Athletic Achievement, Leadership awards, etc. Also, every student gets a Claremont Athletics t-shirt and pizza.

This is a very special year as we are inducting 10 new alumni to our sports Wall Of Fame who were/are professional athletes, national team members or builders for our school sports programs. The event is being hosted by news Anchor and alumni (grad 1990), Jason Pires from CTV Vancouver. The cost is free if you paid your athletic fee at the beginning of your season.  If not, it is $10 at the door.
As always, it's a good day to be a Spartan!

Mr. Tubbs ice cream parlour and family fun zone, across from Tillicum Mall, is looking to hire 2 part time staff for the busy summer season.  A cool place to work, especially if you love ice cream.  Approx. 20 hours per week.

The Saanich News is looking for reliable paper carriers for several routes in the Cedar Hill X Road / Cedar Hill Rd areas. Get outside and exercise while getting paid.  Delivery days are Wednesdays & Fridays; pay is relative to number of papers on route.

The Fairmont Empress Hotel & Resorts is advertising for more summer Turndown Attendant positions. Starting rate of pay is $18.05! Visit the Career Centre for more information on how to apply or go to www.fairmontcareers.com.

Peninsula Country Market is looking to hire someone to set up and take down tables and tents every Saturday June 8th - Oct. 13,  7:30 am - 1:30 pm. $14.00/hour.

The Beach House Restaurant on Cordova Bay Rd is looking to fill a few dishwasher positions for the summer!  Part time or full time, $14 per hour + tips.  Flexible scheduling, free staff meal per shift, a fun local environment! Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Volunteer Opportunities
Here are some opportunities for earning volunteer hours to go towards your high school requirements.  Visit the Career Centre for info about these and other volunteer postings.

Summer Camps (August) at UVic.  The Faculty of Humanities at UVic seeks volunteers for its SCAMPS summer camps programs, provided to children between ages 5-12. We prefer that our volunteers commit to at least one full week, but are flexible concerning work hours. If you are a responsible, reliable high school student who is good with kids energetic and enthusiastic, then this could be a great opportunity for you! Canada Day Pancake Breakfast @ Mary Winspear Centre, Sidney.  MONDAY July 1st, 7:30 am - 11:00 am. Help the Lions Club serve up pancakes and sausages to families before the Canada Day Parade;  then after the parade,  you can also serve up hamburgers at the Lunchbox in Iroquois Park!

Skills Ready Summer Work Experience Project
Are you planning on getting a job over the summer?  Are you interested in skilled trades work?  This summer, Skills Ready is helping young people who are in grade 10 and 11 connect with seasonal work experience. Employers in the construction, manufacturing and automotive sectors across BC have expressed interest in helping to build the next generation of skilled workers by offering summer work to interested students!  Work a minimum of 6 weeks, (3 or more days per week). This could potentially continue over multiple summers and possibly result in apprenticeship!  Applications are now being accepted until June 16th. GRAD 2019
Grad Banquet Table Sign-Up: June 13 & 14
TODAY & FRIDAY at lunch only (in the Robotics Room 220)

Tables can seat up to 12 people.
1. Choose one person to represent your group.
2. Your group can be from 1–12 people.
3. Names can only be on one list, so confirm each Grad (and Guest) wants to be in your group.
4. Write out a list of who is sitting at your table (Sign-up forms are in the office).
  a. First and Last Name of Grads.
  b. First and Last Name of Guests.
5. If you don’t sign up by the end of lunch on Friday June 14th, tables will be assigned for you.

Dry Grad: Volunteers Needed
Claremont Grad of 2019 is June 27th … and we are at 70% of our volunteer requirements.

Here are a few ideas of volunteer shifts available:
1) Security Phase 1 teams: transfer students to the dry grad site - a short walk on campus, we need 2 more people - from 10:45PM to 12:15AM.
2) Carnival Games support: we are looking for post grads … from 2018, 2017, etc … students that have attended the dry grad event in the past .. please support this year’s grads and volunteer, we need 8 more people - from 12 - 3AM.
3) Clean up crew: you’ll likely pick up your student at 5AM... please consider coming a bit early and help clean up, we need 6 people - from 3:30-4:30AM.

Dry Grad: Clothing Drop-off
Grads & guests are to drop off casual clothing (including shoes) that you will wear for the Dry Grad Celebration, at Claremont school during these times:
MONDAY, June 24 - 11:00am - 5:00pm
TUESDAY June 25 - 11:00am - 5:00pm
WEDNESDAY, June 26 - 11:00am - 5:00pm
All grads need to drop off their clothing in a  zippered garment bag (not a plastic grocery bag or garbage bag) in the main foyer at Claremont. This bag needs to be large enough to hold your formal wear (include a sturdy hanger). Separate bags for grad and guest required (no sharing of bags will be allowed). Make sure your bag is labelled with your full name. All bags will be inspected for banned substances. Clothing will be kept in a locked room at all times and will be returned at the end of the event or when the grad is signed out.  If you cant’ find a garment bag, please contact the Dry Grad committee.  What to pack: shorts/t-shirt, undergarments, shoes/socks, flip flops/sandals, zip-lock bag for jewellery, hairbrush/toothbrush/deodorant.

Peninsula Youth Clinic – OPEN ALL SUMMER

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
-any medical concern
-get prescriptions
-speak with a counsellor
-access to STI and pregnancy testing
-access to birth control
