Spartan Day


GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

School Photos and I.D. Cards

Grade 11 students only: your school photos and I.D. cards will be handed out TODAY at lunch in the student lounge.  


Spartan Wear – Orders Due Sept 27

Time is running out to order yourself a Claremont Spartan hoodie, shirt, sweat pants,  or lanyard.  Orders forms are at the Accounting Office.  All sales are pre-order only. Deadline for orders is THIS FRIDAY Sept. 27  to Ms. Marshall in the Accounting office.  Estimated time for clothing to arrive at Claremont is mid-October.


Leadership Camp: Cancelled

Unfortunately, Leadership Camp is cancelled this Friday due to low numbers. There will be no after school session either.


Spartan Day – Today

Today, we are supporting the Terry Fox Foundation with our “Toonies For Terry” campaign.  We are asking students and staff to donate toonies in their block 2 classes. Our goal is to raise $2500 for the Terry Fox Foundation.


Today’s schedule:

Block 1:  9:00-10:00

Block 2:  10:05-11:05

Terry Fox:  11:05-11:50 (load outside from Block 2, followed by a walk/run around block)

Lunch:  11:50-12:23 (Camosun Food Truck; limited cafeteria service available)

Block 3:  12:23-1:23

Block 4:  1:28-2:28  Early closure (to prepare for “Meet The Teacher” night.


Spirit Day Lunch - Today

Camosun Cuisine Machine Food Truck will be outside the student lounge serving lunch TODAY. See the menu posted throughout the school; the theme is Indian Curry House & Burger Shack. The cafeteria will have limited service.


Meet The Teachers: Tonight

We look forward to seeing parents TONIGHT, 6:00 - 8:00 pm for the Meet The Teachers Parent Night.  Please come prepared with your student’s teacher names, bock rotation and classroom numbers. The schedule for this event is posted on the front of the Claremont website.


Peru/Spring Break 2020 – Parent Meeting Tonight

There is a parent meeting TONIGHT at 7:30 pm during 'Meet the Teacher' night in room 327 with Mr Gardner.  dgardner@saanichschools.ca


UVic Mens Vikes Game: Terry Fox Fundraiser

To all those interested in the game of basketball: come check out the UVic men’s basketball team as they scrimmage here at Claremont this SATURDAY night at 7pm. Entry is only $2 and all proceeds go to the Terry Fox Foundation. See Mr. Dunlop for more details.


Orange Shirt Day – Sept 30

Claremont recognizes Orange Shirt Day this MONDAY September 30. This is a nationally commemorated day to remember the survivors of Indian Residential Schools while affirming that all children are valued in our community. Let's show our support for reconciliation and human rights. Wearing orange helps us all to share in this important message. Every Child Matters.


CLUBS

Trivia Club

All students interested in joining the Trivia Club: please come by Ms Stover’s class (room 322) for more information and to sign up. Games start next Wednesday Oct. 2nd.


ATHLETICS

Cross Country

Congratulations to the Cross Country team who competed in their first race yesterday at Lambrick Park. There were 6 Spartan runners who finished in the top 10 in their respective divisions. Well done to all runners!!!


Sr Boys Volleyball

Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Volleyball team who went undefeated last night, beating Royal Bay (25-20, 25-19), PCS (25-17, 25-15) and Stellys (25-08, 25-11). Special thanks to the Sr. And Jr. Girls players for minor officiating and to the staff and students who came out to support the team. Go Spartans!

Minor Test Shoppers for Island Health are needed to conduct compliance checks on retail outlets in the Southern Vancouver Island area. Must be between 14 and 18 years of age. This is a paid position of approx. $14 per hour. 


UVic School of Health Information Science Open House – Oct 16

The School of Health Information Sciences is hosting its Fall Open House on Wednesday, October 16th, 4:30-6:00pm at UVic’s Cornett Building room A125. Students interested in the life sciences, medicine and/or information technology would be especially interested in these programs.  Students are invited to learn more about this exciting field by talking with faculty and students. Join us for pizza while learning about the rapidly expanding field of information technology in health care!

Food Safe Level 1 - Friday Oct. 25Th, 8:30 am –4:30 pm @ SHOAL Centre in Sidney, 10030 Resthaven Drive.  Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated.

Alert First Aid With CPR "C" & AED - Saturday, November 22, 2019 -8:30 am to 4:00 pm @ SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive. Cost is $50.00 -Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. This fun, interactive, and comprehensive 8-hour course trains people how to react & improvise during life threatening emergencies. This course meets the Adult & Child Licensing Guidelines.


GRAD 2020

Grad Portraits

Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time, October 7-18. To book your appointment, please go to the Grad Portrait website: schedule.prestigeportraits.ca   Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook). Information posters are posted around the school.  More details are on the Claremont Grad Page.

Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. 

Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.

-get prescriptions

-speak with a counsellor

-access to STI and pregnancy testing

-access to birth control
