GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

School Photos and I.D. Cards

Grade 10, 11 and 12 students: your school photos and I.D. cards will be handed out TODAY at lunch in the student lounge.

Grade 9 students: your photos and I.D. cards will be handed out on MONDAY.


Orange Shirt Day – Sept 30

Claremont recognizes Orange Shirt Day this MONDAY September 30. This is a nationally commemorated day to remember the survivors of Residential Schools while affirming that all children are valued in our community. Let's show our support for reconciliation and human rights. Wearing orange helps us all to share in this important message. Every Child Matters.


Spartan Wear – Orders Due Today

TODAY is the final day to order yourself a Claremont Spartan hoodie, shirt, sweat pants,  or lanyard.  Orders forms are at the Accounting Office.  All sales are pre-order only. Order forms and payment go to Ms. Marshall in the Accounting office.  Estimated time for clothing to arrive at Claremont is mid-October.


Leadership Camp: Cancelled

Unfortunately, Leadership Camp is cancelled this weekend due to low numbers. There will be no after school session either.


UVic Mens Vikes Game: Terry Fox Fundraiser

To all those interested in the game of basketball: come check out the UVic men’s basketball team as they scrimmage here at Claremont this SATURDAY night at 7pm. Entry is only $2 and all proceeds go to the Terry Fox Foundation. See Mr. Dunlop for more details.

ATHLETICS

Jr Boys Volleyball

Congratulations to the Jr Boys Volleyball team for an awesome start to their season.  They went 6-0 last night, beating St. Andrews, SMU, and Oak Bay.  Go Spartans!!


Volleyball

Good luck to all of the volleyball teams that are travelling today to participate in tournaments. Come out and cheer on the Claremont Senior Girls team next TUESDAY when they host Vic High and Oak Bay at 6:00!


Swim Team

For all students interested in being on the school swim team: a reminder of the swimming meeting TODAY at lunch in room 217.


Field Hockey

Field Hockey players: the uniforms are here. Please bring your $25 to Ms Taylor to pick up your uniform.

UVic School of Health Information Science Open House – Oct 16

The School of Health Information Sciences is hosting its Fall Open House on Wednesday, October 16th, 4:30-6:00pm at UVic’s Cornett Building room A125. Students interested in the life sciences, medicine and/or information technology would be especially interested in these programs.  Students are invited to learn more about this exciting field by talking with faculty and students. Join us for pizza while learning about the rapidly expanding field of information technology in health care!

Food Safe Level 1 - Friday Oct. 25Th, 8:30 am –4:30 pm @ SHOAL Centre in Sidney, 10030 Resthaven Drive.  Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated.

Alert First Aid With CPR "C" & AED - Saturday, November 22, 2019 -8:30 am to 4:00 pm @ SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive. Cost is $50.00 -Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. This fun, interactive, and comprehensive 8-hour course trains people how to react & improvise during life threatening emergencies. This course meets the Adult & Child Licensing Guidelines.


GRAD 2020

Grad Portraits

Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time, October 7-18. To book your appointment, please go to the Grad Portrait website: schedule.prestigeportraits.ca   Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook). Information posters are posted around the school.  More details are on the Claremont Grad Page.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. 

Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.

-get prescriptions

-speak with a counsellor

-access to STI and pregnancy testing

-access to birth control
