GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

ScreamFest - The biggest Halloween party in town!

Claremont is hosting the 11th annual ScreamFest Halloween event next week on October 23 & 24.   2 Haunted Walks, new mid-way games, a Costume Contest, BBQ dinner, and lots of scary fun!   Tickets are on sale every day at lunch time in the Spartan Store and the theatre box office.   $10 per person includes admission, 1 Haunt and 1 midway game. Additional coupons are available for purchase at the event. 


ScreamFest Haunters

Students who are interested in being a "haunter" for ScreamFest are invited to attending a meeting  this THURSDAY at lunch in the Dance Studio (change of location). See Mr. Plant for more details. All are welcome to volunteer; you just need to be willing to be scary!


Camosun Duel Credit Courses

If you have signed up for any Dual Credit course through Camosun College for second semester (Business, Criminolgy Psychology, or AP Bio), please attend a registration meeting THIS THURSDAY at the start of lunch in computer lab 225.  See Ms. Giese or Mr. Pama if you have questions.


HomeRoom Oct 17 - Student Vote

On THURSDAY October 17th between blocks 3 and 4 there will be a homeroom scheduled. During this homeroom, students will participate in and complete the Canada-wide Student Vote.


After School Academic Support

Help from Education Assistants is available on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS for one hour after school in room 235 (computer lab) in the areas of English, Socials, Math and Science.  All students welcome.


Citizen & Service Awards

A number of Citizen & Service Awards were not picked up by students at the end of June.  A list of recipient names is posted outside of the office and the Learning Commons.  If your name is on the list, please come to the office to pick up your award.


School Photos and I.D. Cards

If you still need to pick up your school photos and I.D. cards, they are all available in the office – all grades.


Photo Retake Day – Oct. 24

Photo retake day is THURSDAY October 24 in block 1, if you missed the first photo day, or if you want a new photo taken. If you want retakes, you must return your complete original package (and I.D. card) to the photographer at the time of retakes.  Purchasing photos is optional, but all students in all grades need to have school photos taken, for school identification purposes (grade 12’s too - even if you are having grad photos taken). Order forms are available in the office.


CLUBS

Science Club

Anyone interested in participating in the Science Club this year: please come to a meeting THIS THURSDAY at lunch in room 203.


Chess Club

Chess Club runs EVERY DAY day at lunch in room 327. All equipment is provided.  Interested students can participate in a high school chess tournament next week!  See Mr Gardner for details.


Student Council – Pyjama Day - Oct 18

Student Council announces that the first theme day of the year is Pyjama Day, this FRIDAY Oct. 18th. Wear your pjs, slippers and bring a blanket to the theatre at lunch to watch a movie and get some free hot chocolate.


ATHLETICS

Girls Basketball

There will be an open gym TODAY at 6:45 (after the Jr Girls volleyball games) in the main gym. This is for all girls interested in playing for the Jr or Sr girls bball this year. Please see Mr Reisig if you cannot attend.


Senior Boys Basketball

For anyone interested in playing Senior Boys Basketball this year, the first tryout is this THURSDAY from 7:15 until 9:00pm. Please see Mr. Dunlop if you have any questions.


CAREER CENTRE

Canadian Coast Guard 

Students interested in careers in the Coast Guard:  sometime during the week of Nov. 12-15, Claremont will be hosting a Coast Guard Recruitment Officer to present and discuss opportunities for students to join the Canadian Coast Guard. If you are interested in attending this presentation, please sign up at the Career Centre.

Nursery worker. Arbutus Grove Nursery on West Saanich Rd is hiring students to package trees for shipment, Nov-Feb. Start at $13.85/hour. 

A part-time dishwasher/cashier is needed at Adrienne’s Tea Garden at Mattick’s Farm.  

Part-time yard work help is needed by a local senior citizen. $15 per hour.

For all International students, there is a Pizza Lunch this THURSDAY in the theatre.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. 

Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.

-speak with a counsellor

-access to STI and pregnancy testing

-access to birth control
