GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Report Cards – Feb 13

There will be a Home Room THIS THURSDAY Feb 13 at 10:15 am (the last part of block 1) to pick up semester 1 report cards.


Claremont Musical Theatre – The Little Mermaid

Claremont presents Disney's "The Little Mermaid" !! Come 'under the sea' with us as over 75 students in the cast, crew and orchestra re-create the magic of one of Disney's favourite musicals. Shows are: Feb 27-29 & March 5-7 @ 7pm, also Saturday matinees on Feb 29 & March 7 at 1:00 pm. Adults $16, and children/students/seniors $14. Group price available for $13 each (for a group of 8 or more). Please call 250-658-6672 to reserve/buy your tickets.


Student Parking – Registration Required

Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.


PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts

Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts! Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office. Thank you!


CLUBS

Key Club – “Handbags For Hope” Feb 10-13

The Key Club is supporting the Team4Hope fund raising event: Handbags For Hope”. They are collecting any gently used handbags, jewelry and scarves all THIS WEEK, Feb. 10-13, at lunch time in the student lounge. Proceeds will benefit BC Children's Hospital Foundation and childhood cancer research.


Student Government – Valentine Flowers

Send a flower to your friend or special someone for Valentine's Day. Flowers will be on sale for $2 TODAY and WEDNESDAY at lunch next week in the student lounge. Flowers will be delivered on THURSDAY during Block 3 so please know what Block 3 class your friend or special someone is in.

CAREER CENTRE

UVic to Visit Claremont – TODAY

A representative from UVic will be at Claremont TODAY at lunch time in the Learning Commons. The presentation is intended for Grade 12 students, since the focus will be on self-reporting and the admissions process. Come by for this valuable information!


Train to be an Umpire!

If you have played baseball or softball and wish to try umpiring, the Peninsula Baseball and Softball Organization is offering training clinics for umpiring in late February and in March. Pre-registration is required. There will be a Level 1 Baseball Clinic held at Parkland Secondary School in the evenings of Feb 24, 26 and 27. After training, umpiring positions are paid depending upon the age level game that is being umpired. Come to the Career Centre for more information.


Butchart Gardens Job Fair – TOMORROW

Butchart Gardens is hosting a Job Fair on WEDNESDAY, February 12th, 6-8pm. Go there to find out about awesome employment opportunities for seasonal positions in their food or visitor services, gift store, or on their grounds. Come to the Career Centre for more info.

Volunteer Opportunities

Get some volunteer experience/hours while having fun playing Sports with Prospect Lake Elementary School kids! See Ms. Watson in the Career Centre for an application.


The 2020 Tsukino-Con Anime Convention, held February 21-23 at UVic, needs volunteers .

Women in Trades Exploration Day - Feb 26

Camosun College is hosting a ‘Women in Trades Exploration Day’. This fun, hands-on day introduces students to trades in electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, and automotive... as well as tech fields like civil & mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science. Sign up now in the Career Centre to spend a day exploring trades and tech opportunities. The event is on WEDNESDAY Feb 26, 9:30-2:00 @ Camosun College Interurban Campus.

There are grad portrait packages in the office for 15 grade 12 students to pick up.


Dry Grad Fundraiser – Thrifty Smile Cards

One easy way to support the 2020 Dry Grad is to use a Thrifty Foods Smile Card for your grocery shopping. Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the dollars you load on to your pre-assigned Smile Card to the 2020 Dry Grad. Smile Cards can be picked up at the Claremont office. Questions? Vaping Awareness – A Parent Education Night – Feb 20

Free Code Maker Workshops
Science Venture is pleased to offer FREE Code Maker workshops, offering innovative programming focusing on digital skills and literacy with ADST connections. Workshops are designed to complement science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. For more information regarding Science Venture, please visit their website: scienceventure.ca. Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
