GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spartan Wear Pick-up

Spartan Wear has arrived.  Please pick up your clothing orders TODAY, THURSDAY and FRIDAY at 12:30 in the big gym.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in Math, English, Science or Social Studies: help from Education Assistants is available on TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS 3:00-4:00 after school in room 235 (computer lab). All students in all grades are welcome

 

Peer Tutoring

Another avenue for students to get help with academic studies (Math, English, Science, and Social Studies) is to work with a Peer Tutor. We have volunteer Peer Tutors who are ready to be paired up with students asking for some extra help. If you are interested in having a Peer Tutor, please see Mrs. Wadsworth in the Learning Commons.

 

Mid-Morning Breaktime Food Service

Reminder that the Spartan Store is open every morning for breakfast and snack service 10:00-11:00, with reasonably-priced hot drinks and morning treats. Cash or lunch cards only.

 

ATHLETICS

Girls Volleyball

There will be no girls volleyball TODAY; we will see you after Spring Break!

 

Intramural Speedball: Bubble Bowl #2

Finals and 3rd place games will take place for Senior teams TODAY.  Winning teams take on the teachers on THURSDAY.

 

Girls’ Lacrosse Clothing Pick-Up

Girls' Lacrosse Students: your next opportunity to pick up your clothing order is THIS FRIDAY 12:10-12:45 in the small gym.  Your class fee must be paid before you can pick up your order.

Math Club

For any interested grade 9s, 10s, and 11s:  the sign-up sheet for the final Waterloo math contest of the year is outside room 133.

 

Trivia Club

Students interested in Trivia Club: see you this THURSDAY at lunch in Ms. Tong's and Ms. Stover's rooms (322 & 323)!  Starting at 12:00 sharp.

CAREERS

CBC Radio One - Careers Fair: March 22-26

From March 22-26, CBC Radio One’s ‘BC Today’ will be hosting a Career Fair featuring guests speaking about a variety of professions and opportunities. This could be of value to students, particularly those in Grades 11 and 12 (very eager younger students can join, too!). There will be opportunities for listeners to call in with questions.

To attend the Career Fair, students can tune in to BC Today with Michelle Eliot on their local CBC Radio One or online at cbc.ca/listen from 12:30 – 1:00pm  March 22-26.  Check back at cbc.ca/bc/community for more info.

 

Career & Post-Secondary Education Webinar Event: April 6-9

Black Press Media is hosting a huge Career and Post-Secondary Education Event. They help match employers with potential employees and potential students with educational institutions.  Areas covered at the event will include: Hospitality, Nursing, Transportation, Accounting, Retail, Construction, Administration, Security, and many more!  For info and to register: https://events.blackpress.ca/greatervictoria/

 

TRU: Software Engineering Program

The BEng in Software Engineering program at Thompson Rivers University is currently accepting applications, but seats are limited!  

New admission requirement for Fall 2021:  PHYSICS 11 (Physics 12 is recommended but not required).  Students can apply here: https://apply.educationplannerbc.ca/

There are so many virtual information sessions and events being offered by post-secondary institutions.  The Saanich School District has a Careers page that is full of good information about various training and post-secondary opportunities. For the most current details about many virtual events being provided by universities and other post-secondary schools, make sure to visit the Saanich School District Career Education website, at https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/.  This site is updated continually.

 

GRAD 2021

District and School Scholarships

Did you know that Claremont grads are eligible for over $50,000 in scholarships?  Apply online at the Claremont Website.  All applications will be due by April 23.  For more information, check out the Scholarships Handbook, the scholarships website, or see Ms. Tong in room 323.

 

Self-Reporting Deadline for UVic: March 15

All students who have applied to UVic for September 2021: the self-reporting deadline is coming up quickly: March 15.  This is very important for your application process, but is also essential for you being considered for scholarships.

Spring Flower Baskets

Deadline to order is THIS FRIDAY March 12

Hilltop Nursery is providing various flower baskets (annual mixes, begonias, strawberries, and tomatoes).  Order Forms have been handed out to all Grade 12 Students; they are also available on the Claremont website

Purdy’s Easter Chocolates

Deadline to order online is NEXT WEDNESDAY March 17

Order sweet Easter treats and support our Grads at the same time. The Purdy’s online marketplace shows you a detailed picture & information about each item. Details are on the on the Grad Page of the Claremont website. 

 

Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office.  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

Cordova Bay United Church: Chalk Labyrinth

In the spirit of good mental health and bringing neighbours together (at a distance), the Cordova Bay United Church (on Claremont Avenue) made a temporary chalk labyrinth in the parking lot (in the closest corner to the school).  Everyone is welcome to walk it. This is a great way to practice calm & mindfulness.  The labyrinth is wide enough for wheelchairs and walkers.

 

Programs at the Upside Teen Centre (Saanich Commonwealth Place)

Reminder that there are FREE, registered drop-in style programs for older teens at the Upside Teen Centre.  Youth can pre-register online or in person!

Cordova Bay Fastball

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.  To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.

  

Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
