Welcome to Quarter 4!


GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations!

We would like to congratulate Bailee Montufar for competing and being awarded 4th place (in the BAKING category) in the Skills Canada Provincial Competition hosted at Claremont on April 17th.  She placed First Place in the Regionals last month to earn her spot to compete at the Provincials.  Well done, Bailee.  We are so Sparton Proud of your achievements (we know there will be many more to follow).  We wish her the best of luck at Camosun as she starts her Culinary Training this month.  

 

Report Cards – April 30

Quarter 3 report cards will be handed out THIS FRIDAY April 30 in block 1 classes.  If students don’t have a block 1 class, they can pick up their report cards in the office.

 

Mid-Day Bus Schedule

Important note for all students who ride the school bus: for the first half of Quarter 4 our bus schedule will change back to PICKING UP students at the school at the end of block 1 classes, and then DROPPING OFF at scheduled stops near your homes.  The schedules for school bus pick up/drop off are basically identical to those that ran for the first half of Quarter 3, but if you need to reference them at all, they are posted on the Claremont Website “Quick Links” and by the main office.  All busses will leave Claremont at 12:00 sharp.

 

30 Hours Work Experience or Volunteering 

Reminder to CLE/CLC students (especially Gr. 12s): When you have completed your           30 hours of Work Experience or Volunteering, ask your employer or volunteer coordinator to confirm your hours via email to Mrs. Watson (Career Centre) - <span lang="EN-US">cwatson@saanichschools.ca</span>

GRAD 2021

Grad Package #2 – Deadline April 30 (at noon)

Grads: please be sure to complete your Grad Package #2 by THIS FRIDAY April 30.  This document is essential, as we continue to build your virtual graduation ceremony.  This package includes information about nominations for Valedictorian(s), MC(s), and signing up for your window of time for filming your ‘crossing of the stage’ and visiting the photo booth.  The link to complete the Grad Package #2 is on the Grad Page of the Claremont website. You must be logged into your account on the Claremont Website to access this.

 

OnLine Courses Completion Deadline – May 31

Grads: If you are applying to university/college, make sure you have completed any online courses (SIDES, NIDES, etc) by May 31st. This deadline allows for sufficient time for coursework to be graded and final marks to be sent to the Ministry of Education, for your transcript.

Smile Cards 

One easy way to support the 2021 Grad class is to use a Thrifty Foods Smile Card for your grocery shopping. Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the dollars you load on to your pre-assigned Smile Card to the 2021 Dry Grad. Smile Cards can be picked up at the Claremont office.

Magic Wand Project

Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux, (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge). All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included. Any student is eligible.

Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office.  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

Saanich Youth Leadership Summer Placement Program

Are you interested in spending your summer working with kids? Do you want to be a leader in your community and work with diverse individuals?  This summer, Saanich is offering a Mentored Placement Program for youth 14–17 years old. Participants in this program will have the chance to work in an outdoor camp setting with kids and a personal staff mentor. There are so many virtual information sessions and events being offered by post-secondary institutions.  The Saanich School District has a Careers page that is full of good information about various training and post-secondary opportunities. Programs at the Upside Teen Centre (Saanich Commonwealth Place)

Reminder that there are FREE, registered drop-in style programs for older teens at the Upside Teen Centre.  Youth can pre-register online or in person!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.  To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.

 

Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
