GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Water Fountains & Water Bottles

For Health & Safety purposes, Claremont’s water fountains have been modified to be only used as water bottle filling stations; they are no longer tap drinking fountains. Students are asked to bring a water bottle from home every day for their personal use.  Regular hydration is important, especially as the days become warmer!

 

School Bus Registration for 2021-2022

School bus registration for next school year is now open until June 20th.  To register, you will need your Student #.  Registration link is on the Saanich School District website:  https://www.sd63.bc.ca/programs-and-services/transportation

  

FoodSafe Certificates

FoodSafe Certificates from Quarter 3 classes have arrived.

If you took FoodSafe in Ms Yager's Q3 Foods class, please pick up your certificates from the PE Office anytime this week.

If you took Food Safe with Ms. O'Brien in Q3, please pick up your certificates in the Foods room at lunch time.

 

Reminders About Student Absences

If Your Student is Absent or Late: if your student will be absent or late for class, parents are asked to please email your student’s teacher AND the Attendance Line. The Link for the Claremont Attendance Line is on the Quick Links on the Claremont website’s home page: claremont_attendance@sd63.bc.ca

If your Student is Leaving Early: If your student needs to leave class early for a planned reason, parents are asked to send your student with a note or text to show your student’s teacher AND the office staff. Students need to formally sign out at the office.

 

30 Hours Work Experience or Volunteering 

Reminder to CLE/CLC students (especially Gr. 12s): When you have completed your           30 hours of Work Experience or Volunteering, ask your employer or volunteer coordinator to confirm your hours via email to Mrs. Watson (Career Centre) - <span lang="EN-US">cwatson@saanichschools.ca</span>

Smile Cards 

One easy way to support the 2021 Grad class is to use a Thrifty Foods Smile Card for your grocery shopping. Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the dollars you load on to your pre-assigned Smile Card to the 2021 Dry Grad. Smile Cards can be picked up at the Claremont office.

GRAD 2021

OnLine Courses Completion Deadline – May 31

Grads: If you are applying to university/college, make sure you have completed any online courses (SIDES, NIDES, etc) by May 31st. This deadline allows for sufficient time for coursework to be graded and final marks to be sent to the Ministry of Education, for your transcript.  See your school counsellor if you have any questions.

 

Magic Wand Project

Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux, (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge). All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included. Any student is eligible.

Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office.  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

Summer Camp Youth Leadership Opportunities

If you are interested in working with children in an outdoor summer day camp setting with staff mentors, there are a few programs that may interest you! These programs will train young leaders through mentored work. For more information on these programs, students can see Mrs Watson in room 222 or go to the Career Centre.

Camp Ignite – Summer 2021
Camp Ignite is a Youth Fire Fighter Mentorship Program for grade 11 & 12 girls, ages 16-18 that educates and inspires young women about careers in firefighting. This camp offers girls an introduction to the world of firefighting as well as learning about fitness, nutrition, health and teamwork. The plan this year is to run a 2-day camp (no overnight) on August 14 & 15; one day in Vancouver and one day in North Vancouver.  Saanich Fire is looking to sponsor one grade 11 or 12 girl to attend. Entrepreneurship Workshops for Grade 10 & 11 Students – May 25 & 27

UVic’s Gustavson School of Business will be hosting Zoom workshops at the end of May for Grade 10 and 11 students who may want to learn how they can flex their entrepreneurial skills through a side-hustle or microbusiness of their own!

There are so many virtual information sessions and events being offered by post-secondary institutions.  The Saanich School District has a Careers page that is full of good information about various training and post-secondary opportunities. Programs at the Upside Teen Centre (Saanich Commonwealth Place)

Reminder that there are FREE, registered drop-in style programs for older teens at the Upside Teen Centre.  Youth can pre-register online or in person!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.  To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.

 

Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
