GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Timetables

Draft timetables for next school year are being handed out TODAY and THURSDAY in block 1 classes.  If you don’t have a current block 1 class, you can pick up your timetable in the office. *There is a Change Request form on the back of the schedule for students who find discrepancies. Please just fill out Change Request form, take a photo of the schedule and then drop it off in the office.

 

Locker Clean-Out

Please take a few minutes to empty your lockers before the end of this THURSDAY and take your locks home for the summer.  Please write down your lock combination so you can remember it for September.

 

Yearbooks – Thursday June 24

Yearbooks will be handed out TOMORROW (Thursday) at lunch and after school.  There will be 4 pick-up locations (one location per grade), which will be announced on Thursday.

There is still time to order a yearbook. $45 payment can be made to Ms Marshall in the Accounting office.  If you are not sure if you have already ordered one, she can let you know that too!

 

Report Cards

Report cards will be available for pick-up at two separate times at the front of the school (outdoors).  Look for the tent set up outside of the choir room:

TUESDAY June 29: 8:30 – 10:30

WEDNESDAY June 30: 10:30 – 2:30

 

Grade 8 Transition Tours

Reminder for all those helping with grade 8 transition tours on Friday: please meet in the Learning Commons FRIDAY morning at 9:00 a.m.. Please see Mrs. de Klerk with any questions.

 

Work Experience Credits

Any student who is looking forward to being in the Work Experience program next year but has not met with Mr. Arsenault yet, please see him in the Career Centre as soon as possible; then you will be able to get credit for hours you work over the summer!

 

Are you taking a Dual Credit course next year?

Students who have enrolled in any Dual Credit course for the next school: please check your school email regarding how to fill out your Camosun Application Form.  Please work on completing this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. 

For Dual Credit Math 100 students: you have already received this email. The registration form needs to be completed by this week. 

For Crim, Psych or Business students: keep checking for your emails.

 

Food Service is Winding Down for Year-End

Reminder that lunchtime cafeteria service has ended for the year

Mid-morning snack service at the Claremont Store will run TODAY and THURSDAY.

 

Learning Commons – Return Books

Please help us ensure we have enough textbooks for our September classes. Please return any library books and text books you still have checked out to the Learning Commons by THIS FRIDAY June 25th. Students with outstanding books may not be able to check out books next year. Graduating students will be charged for any textbooks not returned by the end of the year.

 

LIFEGUARD Needed

Claremont is seeking a qualified Lifeguard to be on duty for a part-day beach field trip on MONDAY June 28.  If there are any grade 11 students or former grads who would like to assist with this event, please contact Mr. Westhaver.

 

Lost & Found Table

A lost & found table is set up in the horseshoe hallway.  Please come check it out.  There are lots of random pieces of clothing, hoodies, jackets, shoes, water bottles, and odds & ends hoping to find their way back home. Any leftover clothing will be donated to a charity by the end of this week.

 

Blood Drive

It is great to see so many Spartans booking blood donor appointments!! There is still time to book a June appointment to donate blood.  Students/Staff make their own appointments, and there is no need to miss class time. See the posters around the school, check out blood.ca or see Ms Chapman in room 136 for more information. You must be 17 years or older to donate.

 

School Bus Registration for 2021-2022

REMINDER: If you ride the school bus, have you registered for next year yet?  School bus registration for next school year is open until June 30th.  To register, you will need your Student #.  Registration link is on the Saanich School District website:  https://www.sd63.bc.ca/programs-and-services/transportation

 

30 Hours Work Experience or Volunteering

Math Club Members

Any students that wrote any Waterloo Math Contests in 2020 or 2021, please check the Math Club Board at the end of today to see if you qualified for a medal or certificate.  These can be picked up from Mr. Paananen on THURSDAY in room 133.

 

Key Club: School Supplies Drive – June 14-24

There are only 2 days left of the Key Club’s school supplies drive to support families for the upcoming school year! The drive runs until the last day of classes - June 24th. Any new or gently used supplies can be donated to the bins found at the Learning Commons, front office, or Ms. Pang's room (135).

GRAD 2021

Grad Social: June 28

Grads, have you signed up yet for the Grad Social??  Grad Parents have organized an activity-filled morning that promises an experience with prizes, swag and free food!  Part scavenger hunt, part Amazing Race, lots of fun!!!  The sign-up form is linked on both the Grad Page of the Claremont website and on the Grad 2021 Google Classroom (you must be logged into your Google Account).

Sign up with your team of up to four students. You will need to choose a team name, a team captain, and at least 2 people per group will need to bring drawstring bags to collect goodies. Individuals and groups of 2 or 3 are encouraged to sign up, but could be paired up with another group to make as many groups of 4 as possible.

On June 28 at 9:00am SHARP, Grads meet on the lower field inside the track - make sure to wear your grad pinnie, mask and sport shoes. Superhero accessories are welcome - capes are great!  There is the potential for getting wet; if you wear eyeglasses, you may prefer to wear contacts if possible.

This event will be followed by a Food Truck lunch back at Claremont, 12:30-1:30 pm.

 

Grad Day: June 29

Student “Walk Through” Parade and Grad Class photo 11:00–2:30 pm

Deadline to sign up is NOON on THURSDAY June 24th

As part of your Grad Day, we have created an opportunity for you to do a final walk-through of the school, say "see ya later" to your favourite staff members, and collect your grad memorabilia. 

We will have 5 groups of 50 students arriving at specific times. Please sign up for a time that works best for you. You may wish to coordinate with your friends so that you can share this experience together. The sign-up link is on the Grad Page and on the Grad 2021 Google Classroom**HEADS UP: Although Groups 3, 4 and 5 will be doing their walk through after noon, you will ALL need to arrive at the school no later than 11:45am and head to the back of the school for an entire grad group photo on the centre field of the track.**

Grad Photos from Crossing-the-Stage

The photos of grads and their families have been posted to the Grad 2021 Google Classroom.  Grad students should have the classroom code to access this. If a student doesn't know the code, they can come ask in the office.

 

Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office, or the links on the GRAD PAGE:  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

Students have until July 10th to complete or add to their PSI Selections for this year to authorize release of their transcript data to their chosen post-secondary institutions for admissions purposes.

TechWorks Summer Training Session

Are you interested in FREE Career Training?  TechWORKS offers employment training to young adults who want to sharpen their job readiness skills and improve their workplace digital skill set. TechWORKS is a government-funded program which includes 6 weeks of virtual classroom training (that can be accessed anywhere on Vancouver Island, BC), and is followed by up to 6 months of one-on-one support as participants move into employment, education or self-employment. Retirement Celebration of 3 Cordova Bay Elementary Teachers – June 26

For all alumni of Cordova Bay Elementary School: Did you have Ms HOLMES, Ms CHALLINOR or Ms COCHRANE for a teacher?  They are retiring at the end of June and there is a drive-by car parade to send them off with a warm good-bye.  Students (and staff) are invited to take part in the car parade.  Honk, wave, and feel free to decorate your vehicle.  Vehicles will travel along Rambler Road, from Walema Ave towards Cordova Bay Rd.

Soccer Camps

Saanich Fusion Football Club is preparing for a fun and exciting 2021/22 soccer season and registration is now OPEN!   Saanich Fusion promotes the development of soccer skills through a fun and engaging environment for all age groups.  The youth program encompasses boys and girls players from U14 to U18. National STEAM Summer Camp: July 19-23

National STEAM Summer Camp offers a week of fun and interactive virtual activities such as digital art, building chatbots, creative technical writing, cyber security, and more!  All activities are designed to introduce students (grades 7-12) to the many opportunities in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) field. Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 9:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
