GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spartan Day & ‘Toonies for Terry’ – TODAY

Spartan Days typically happen 3 times a year. The purpose is to celebrate being a Spartan and also to fund-raise or give back to our community in some way. On TODAY’s Spartan Day, we are supporting the Terry Fox Foundation with our “Toonies For Terry” campaign. TODAY we are asking students and staff to donate toonies in their block 2 classes. And thank you for wearing RED to show Spartan Spirit!

Today’s revised class schedule:

Block 1     9:00-10:05

Block 2   10:10-11:20    

Blk 2 collects Toonies for Terry & shows a Terry Fox video

Homeroom   11:25-11:35     

 -students receive their student ID cards, photo proofs and photo order info.

 -fire drill/Terry Fox walk 

Lunch      12:10-12:50

-special lunchtime activities include a movie in the theatre, music BINGO, and Spikeball.

Block 3    12:55-2:00

Block 4      2:05-3:10

 

Dual Credit Courses Students - URGENT

Did you sign up for a Dual Credit Course for this school year? (Crim 154, Pysch 130, Bus 140, Econ 103, Acct 110, Marketing 110). You should have received an email, last June, with instructions to complete the last step of the application process.  THIS APPLICATION AND FEE WILL SECURE YOUR SPOT.   If you have not completed a Camosun Application, paid the Fee and submitted to Mr.  Bussoli - your spot is not secured.  Please complete this step and submit it to Mr Bussoli ASAP. 

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in Math, English, Science or Social Studies: help from Education Assistants is available on TUESDAYS & THURSDAY after school 3:15-4:15 in room 235. All students in all grades are welcome.

 

Grad Diplomas for 2021 Grads

Parents:  if you have an older child who graduated in June 2021, their Dogwood Graduation Diplomas are available in the office for pickup.  Younger siblings are welcome to pick them up.

 

Parents: Online Fee Payment System

Our new and secure online fee payment system is now active. Just a reminder if you haven’t paid your fees yet to please sign up for an account and pay online. Please see the district website here https://www.sd63.bc.ca/parents-students/pay-school-fees-online

Online payments will help us all reduce time, money and paper waste!  If you are a parent who has multiple children at multiple schools, they will all appear together under your online payment parent account. The on-line payment option is also available on the Claremont Website under the "Parents" tab. Lunch at the Cafeteria

The cafeteria lunch program offers a varied menu of sandwiches, wraps, soups, noodle dishes, drinks, and sweets. Cash or punch card only. $5 and $10 punch cards can be purchased from the Accounting office.

 

Spartan Store Breakfast & Lunch Service

Breakfast: The Spartan Store offers breakfast treats Monday–Thursday mornings 8:30 - 8:55 serving wraps, hash browns, smoothies, muffins, coffee, and hot chocolate.

Lunch Salad Bar: The Spartan Store is open Monday–Thursday at lunch serving a make-your-own salad bar, featuring greens harvested from our very own school garden and a variety of toppings!  Cash or punch card only. $5 and $10 punch cards can be purchased from the Accounting office.

  

ATHLETICS

Cross-Country

Claremont's cross-country team competed at Beaver Lake on Wednesday and had some great results.  For the second week in a row, Ethan NOZICK (Gr. 9) won the Junior Boys race!  Fellow grade 9 students Oliver BOSS and Carter PAANANEN finished 12th and 13th respectively.  Thea DAMIAN (Gr.9) improved on her third-place showing last week and finished 2nd overall in the Junior Girls race.  The top Senior Girls were Anna BIANCA-RICHTER (7th) and Kate BROOKS (9th), and in the Senior Boys race, Miguel BATTALAS finished 5th and Jesse LAMARCHE 6th. Please congratulate these amazing student-athletes!

 

Sr Boys Volleyball

Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Volleyball Team who were silver medalists in the Camosun College Invitational Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. Our Spartans lost in the third set of 13-15 to the #4 BC ranked Walnut Grove (who they beat in the power pool the day before).  Claremont is ranked #6 in "AAA" in the province. 

On Wednesday night the Sr. Boys went undefeated beating Oak Bay 25-18, 25-21 and Reynolds 25-19, 25-16. Thank you to all the fans who came out to support the team!

Grad Portraits: October 12-22

Grads, have you booked your grad photos appointment yet?  Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time: October 12 – 22. To book your appointment, please go to the LINK on the Claremont website Grad Page. Enter your province (BC), your city (Victoria) and your school (Claremont) to log in and book your appointment. Don't put this off until later, or all of the on-site appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 (cash or cheque) is due at the time of your appointment (but if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook).

Job Opportunity 

Parks Canada, in Coastal BC, has employment opportunities for this fall and winter for youth as Student Promotions Social Media Assistants.  Duties include: writing social media content, monitoring social media trends, researching materials and gathering information to develop social media campaigns, photography and videography, assisting with the image library inventory and filing systems, and more.  Students age 15 and older can apply. CUE brings together over 50 of Canada’s finest post-secondary institutions and showcases them over two weeks in September & October. NEW Education Assistant & Community Support Program

Are you in Grade 12?  Interested in the field of Education? Saanich School District, in partnership with Vancouver Island University, is offering a NEW CAREER PROGRAM: Educational Assistant and Community Support Certificate.  This is a 7-month full-time program, starting in February 2022. This is a DUAL CREDIT program sponsored by the district, so tuition is paid for!  This is a fabulous opportunity!  Please see Mr. Bussoli if you are interested.  There are also seats for paying adults!

Post Secondary BC (PSBC) Fall Virtual Fairs

PSBC is a consortium of primarily public post-secondary institutions in BC, who provide information you need to help make the best education decisions.

Virtual Fairs for students & parents:

-       Seven dates, open to everyone across the province, with each fair open for 10 hours.

-       Presentations (live or pre-recorded) up to six times daily (# will vary by institution)

-       Live text & video chat available with institutional representatives

-       Multiple “door prizes” will be awarded to student participants after each event
