GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

REVISED CLASS SCHEDULE: Nov 2 & 3

Provincial Numeracy and Literacy Assessments will be taking place for many students on November 2 & 3.  To properly schedule these assessments, the entire school will follow a Copernican class schedule consisting of two long blocks per day (this was the class schedule used for all of last year).  Please note the revised Class Schedule for those two days:

TUESDAY NOV. 2

Block 1: 9:00 – 11:45

(Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)

Block 3: 12:30 – 3:10

(Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)

WEDNESDAY NOV. 3

Block 2: 9:00 – 11:45

(Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)

Block 4: 12:30 – 3:10

(Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)


Literacy & Numeracy Assessments: Start TImes

If you are writing a literacy or numeracy assessment this week, please show up 10 minutes before the start of the assessment. For 9:00am start, be there at 8:50 and for a 12:30pm start, be there at 12:20. This will allow for time to get set up and signed into your computer.

Found

A set of Air Pods was found in the school last week.  Please come to the office to claim them.  There are also a set of eye glasses and a change purse (with money) looking to be claimed.

 

School Photos Are Here

If your family ordered photos from the Sept. Photo Day, many packages of photos have arrived at the office.  Please come pick yours up.

 

Bus Cards

If you are registered to ride the school bus, and you have not picked up your bus card yet, please come to the office to pick them up.  The bus drivers are now expecting students to show their bus cards to ride the school bus.

 

Lunch at the Cafeteria

The cafeteria lunch program offers a varied menu of sandwiches, wraps, soups, noodle dishes, drinks, and sweets. Cash or punch card only. $5 and $10 punch cards can be purchased from the Accounting office.

  

Spartan Store Breakfast & Lunch Service

Breakfast: The Spartan Store offers breakfast treats Monday–Thursday mornings 8:30 - 8:55 serving wraps, hash browns, smoothies, muffins, coffee, and hot chocolate.

Lunch Salad Bar: The Spartan Store is open Monday–Thursday at lunch serving a make-your-own salad bar, featuring greens harvested from our very own school garden and a variety of toppings!  Cash or punch card only. $5 and $10 punch cards can be purchased from the Accounting office.

 

Grad Diplomas for 2021 Grads

Parents: if you have an older child who graduated in June ‘21, their Dogwood Graduation Diplomas are available in the office for pickup.  Younger siblings are welcome to pick them up.

 

ATHLETICS – GO SPARTANS!!!

Junior Boys Basketball

Date change for tryouts!!  The Jr Boys Basketball tryouts time has been moved from today @ 5m to THURSDAY @ 5pm due to scheduling conflicts with volleyball.

 

Junior Girls Volleyball

Big congratulations to the Junior Girls Volleyball Team, who had a strong weekend on the mainland. The girls came 4th out of 16 teams, losing the semi-final to the eventual winner (South Delta) 25-23, 23-25, 17-15 in a VERY tight match! Our girls are gearing up for a big run at Provincials, where we look to be competitive for the top spot!

After school TODAY, Claremont is hosting the first round of playoffs; we play SMUS, Belmont, and Mt. Doug (back-to-back), so feel free to pop into the big gym if you want to support our Junior Girls!

 

Claremont Swimmers

The Claremont Swim Team competed at the Island Championships on Saturday in Nanaimo.  15 swimmers qualified for Provincials in individual events, as did every one of our relays.  Our swimmers had great school spirit and their support for one another was impressive.  Congratulations swimmers!

 

Girls Lacrosse

Girls' lacrosse practice is WEDNESDAY Nov.3 after school from 3:30 - 5:00 pm. 

 

CLUBS

Math Club

Math Club meets TODAY after school in room 130.  Everyone welcome.  We are doing the second Math League contest of the year.  Pick up a copy and leave or stay to work on it.  Drop finished contests on the board outside room 133.

 

Welcomers Club

Welcomer's Club is on TUESDAY at lunch time.  All students looking to meet new people in the building and have a nice place to be at lunch on Tuesdays are welcome to join--we have great games!! Please bring your lunch and see Ms. Huber or Ms. Giese for any questions.

GRAD 2022

Grad Clothing – Orders Due Nov.10

Grad clothing is now available to order on-line (hoodies, sweatpants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, lanyards, and grad gowns).  Please go to your online account and select Graduation 2022; the clothing details will show up, and you can choose the item, the size and the colour.  If you have any questions, please call Wendi Marshall in the Accounting office at 250-658-6672.  Deadline to order is Nov. 10

 

Grad Portraits – Additional Booking Dates Available

Additional sessions have been opened up for those students who were unable to secure a spot in the first round of dates.  

November 19,22,23,26 – 8:30am-8:30pm

Grad Parent Planning Committee – Nov.2

The first Grad planning meeting of the year will be TOMORROW NIGHT (Tuesday Nov 2nd @

7:00 pm in person in the Claremont Learning Commons; you can also join us virtually by clicking the following link: Click here to join the meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss planning for our upcoming Winter Formal and, most importantly, what Claremont Grad could look like in June and the activities and planning necessary for this year to be amazing for our Grads. This will also be an opportunity for parents/guardians to fill some key roles on the Grad Parent Executive.  All parents/guardians welcome.  

 

Magic Wand Project

Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux, (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge). All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included. Early Childhood Education Dual Credit Option

The South Island Partnership (SIP) is excited to announce a new dual credit option for students interested in Early Childhood Education (ECE)!  SIP has been awarded special funding to deliver a five-course cluster of dual credit courses that are part of Camosun's Early Learning & Care (ELC) program, running February - June 2022.

With a start date of Feb 2022, the window of time to apply is short! See Mr. Bussoli as soon as possible, for more information. There is also an Info Night at the Camosun Interurban Campus, Nov 17, 7pm-8pm.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
