GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spartan Wear

Did you order Spartan Wear? Clothing orders of Spartan hoodies, sweat pants and shirts were handed out on Thursday at lunch. If you missed this date, stay tuned for a second opportunity to pick up your clothing orders NEXT WEEK.

 

Toys for Teens: Dec 1-8

The 9th annual "Toys For Teens Donation Drive" continues TODAY and runs until Dec. 8. Claremont donates Gift Cards for Teens in Need in our community in support of The Zone 91.3's annual Toy Drive. We are asking for $10 Gift Cards that Teens would like for: coffee shops, restaurants, retail locations, music, grocery stores, drug stores, bus passes, pre-paid credit cards, etc. Cash donations are also happily accepted.  Students are encouraged to bring their donations to their Block 1 class (or the front office if they do not have a Block 1 class). Thank you for your support of this great cause and for sharing the Spartan Spirit. Happy Holidays!

 

Coffee Grams

It's that giving time of year! Show your appreciation for your friends and favourite staff by sending them a STARBUCKS Coffee Gram!  TODAY at lunch is the last chance to order a Starbucks Coffee Grams. $2 each in the Student Lounge. We will be delivering coffees during Block 1 on TUESDAY December 7th.  All proceeds are in support of Toys for Teens.

 

Year-Long Drama: Dec. 9-11

The Year-Long Drama production of HUMBUG HIGH will be performing Dec 9-11 at 7:30pm in-person and via Livestream. This modern high-school based adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is sure to please.  Featuring the talents of our student actors and technicians, this play will put you in the spirit for Christmas!  Masks are required. Tickets are $10 at the door. Donate a non-perishable food item at the door and save $1 per item (maximum 5 items).

There are still lots of school photo packages in the office, waiting to be picked up.

Update from Lifetouch About Photos

Lifetouch is experiencing significant shipping/delivery delays due to the flooding and travel restrictions across the province.  If you are waiting for school photo packages or retake photos and want to check on your order, please phone Customer Care at 1-888-676-1647 or use the chat feature on the mylifetouch.ca website.  Hopefully the travel and delivery services will return to normal soon.  Lifetouch thanks you in advance for your understanding and patience.

 

Bus Cards

There are still lots of bus cards in the office, waiting to be picked up for students who are registered to ride the bus. The bus drivers expect students to show their bus cards to ride the school bus.

 

School Busses – On Twitter

The SD63 school buses transport 3,000 students to/from school each school day, with 16 regular bus routes and 4 Special Needs routes. The Transportation Dept has a Twitter Account to help notify parents and schools of any transportation delays as they happen.  You can stay informed with the latest Tweets from SD63 Transportation: @sd63bus.  This can be found on Twitter by searching SD63bus or https://twitter.com/sd63bus

Senior Boys Basketball

Senior Boys Basketball will be selling Pizza at lunch TODAY in the cafeteria. Please come by to purchase a few slices and support the boys program.

 

CLUBS

Key Club: Locker Wrapping, Dec 1-10

Key Club is doing their annual Christmas locker wrapping!   For $2, get someone’s locker wrapped with festive wrapping paper! Sales will take place TODAY and every day at lunch until NEXT FRIDAY (Dec 10) in the student lounge.

 

YCI:  Winter Backpack Supply Drive – Until Dec.10

YCI's ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’ backpack and supply drive continues until December 10th. We are collecting non-perishable snacks, hats, gloves, socks, toiletries and backpacks for homeless youth in the Victoria area. Bins are beside the main entrance.

 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Are you interested in becoming a Homestay family for an International student? Saanich Schools International Student Program is looking for new host families for our International student who will be joining us in February 2022, as well as host families who would like to be available on short notice for students currently here.  This can be a wonderful opportunity to make life-long friendships and share the beauty of your home and community.  Host families receive a generous monthly allowance of $975 to offset expenses.

GRAD 2022

Grad ’22 Winter Gala – Dec.6

TODAY is the final day to buy tickets to the Class of ’22 Winter Gala!!!  Tickets can be bought on-line and in person through the accounting office.  $25 ticket includes food, photobooth, games, and music, and making memories with your grad class.  MONDAY Dec 6th 7:00-10:00pm.  Coat check is available.

CAREER CENTRE

Job Opportunity

If you would like to try your hand at being a Minor Test Shopper, apply for VIHA's part-time job in Tobacco & Vapour Prevention and Control.  $17/hour, various retail locations. Want to try your hands at Plumbing?

Are you interested in learning some basic plumbing? Thinking of a career in Plumbing or Pipe Fitting?  Want to try it out for 1/2 a day here at Claremont?  A cool and amazing opportunity is coming here!!  The Camosun Plumbing & Pipe Fitting Trailer is making its tour here on Monday Dec 13th.  If interested, (I know some of you are), come see Mr. Bussoli in Room 217 at lunch to find out more info and sign up.  Spots are filling up fast!!

 

Student Trainee - Construction Project Management Opportunity

Architecture49 and WSP Canada have 10 openings available for individuals of the Pauquachin, Tseycum, Tsartlip, Tsawout or Malahat First Nations who are interested in hands-on training in the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, or Engineering. Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
