GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Course Changes – Deadline TODAY

The deadline to change a course is TODAY. Students must bring a course change form (signed by a parent) and speak with a counsellor regarding the change. Appointments to see a counsellor can be booked through Mrs. Watson in room 222.  If you cannot book an appointment, please bring your signed form to the counselling hallway ASAP, be patient, and one of the counsellors will meet with you as soon as they are available.

 

Report Cards – Feb.7

Report Cards will be handed out THIS MONDAY MORNING February 7th at 9:00 SHARP in HomeRoom classes.  Students are asked to go to their HomeRoom classes right at 9:00 to pick up report cards, then proceed to their block 1 classes.  Homeroom teachers will hold on to any leftover report cards until the end of the day, before returning them to the office.

 

Lost & Found

New in the lost & found: a pair of ear buds in a case.  Please come to the office to claim them.

 

Skills Canada South Island Regional Competitions

Show your skills, compete, and have fun by being involved with Skills Canada!  Secondary students can learn, compete and showcase their skills in areas like Public Speaking, Culinary, Electronics, Workplace Safety, Photography, Carpentry, and many more....

Competitions will be hosted online, at your high school, or at Camosun Interurban campus.  More details HERE.  See Mr. Bussoli for more information, and register by Friday, Feb 18th. Competitions start March 4th.

 

Revised Class Schedule for Semester 2

Reminder that the semester 2 class schedule has slightly longer breaks between classes (6 mins) and a slightly shorter lunch break (35 mins).

Block 1     9:00 - 10:18

Block 2   10:24 - 11:45

Lunch     11:45 - 12:20

Block 3   12:20 - 1:38

Block 4     1:44 - 3:02

Absences and Illness

A reminder that parents/guardians notify the school office every day that a student will be absent from school. PLEASE indicate if the reason for absence is for illness; the Ministry of Education requires that schools specifically track how many student absences are due to illness. Please notify either the Attendance email: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca or by phone message: 250-658-6666.  Please perform BC’s K-12 daily health check before arriving at school by clicking HERE .

 

New Cafeteria Prices

Beginning THIS MONDAY, February 7th, the Cafeteria will be up and running with their full range of lunch choices. Prices are posted at the cafeteria and they will have small increases as follows:

Burgers - $4.50

Eggers - $4

Entrée - $5

Poutine - $3

Chicken strips - $2.50

Fries - $2.50

Parfaits - $3.50

Feature sandwiches (i.e. Pulled Pork, or Chicken Bacon Ranch) -$5

Cookies - 50 cents

GRAD 2022

Grad Lanyards

The Grad Lanyards have arrived. Please pick up your lanyard TODAY at lunch in the Student Lounge. We have extras for sale, $5 each.

 

Grad Assembly – Feb.7

An important Grad Assembly will take place in Block 2 THIS MONDAY Feb 7 in the theatre. This will include some important information about grad including: how to send transcripts to Post-Secondary Institutions, verifying grad credits, and preparing for the grad ceremony.  To reduce the number of people being seated, the grad class will be divided up into two groups for two separate assemblies. Grade 12 teachers have been advised which group their block 2 students are to attend.  If you have a spare in Block 2, please attend the FIRST assembly at 10:30 a.m.

Volunteer Opportunity: Saanich Peninsula Youth Health Clinic

If you are interested in working in healthcare, social services or non-profit/social justice environments, this volunteer opportunity may be a great option for you!  The Saanich Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is welcoming a limited number of new volunteers who are interested in training for their Sexual Health Ambassador program!  

The team is looking for volunteers who are compassionate, who approach new topics with curiosity and non-judgement, and who are interested in learning about health through various lenses: anti-racism, LGBTQ2+ inclusion, decolonization, disability justice and more. The interview process will begin on Feb 21, 2022.  See Mrs. Watson in room 222, or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca for more information.

NEWS FROM CLAREMONT PAC

Invitation For Feedback: Proposed School Calendars for Upcoming 3 School Years

The Saanich Board of Education has shared the proposed school calendars for 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25. Saanich School District #63 has collaborated with Greater Victoria School District #61 and Sooke School District #62 to align school calendar dates wherever possible. Please review the 3 calendars in the link above and provide any feedback to: communication@saanichschools.ca

Deadline for feedback is February 18, 2022 at 4pm. The calendars will be finalized at the Board Meeting on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

 

PAC Fundraiser: Country Grocer Receipts

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

Cordova Bay Fastball - Registration is FREE. 

Registration for Cordova Bay Fastball is open for the 2022 season.  They have a sponsor who is paying for all registration fees for every player (up to U19) this year.  So you can learn a new sport and play for FREE this year!  Open to all girls and boys U19 (first time players and returning players). Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
