GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Claremont Blood Drive

The Claremont Blood Drive is coming up soon!  Appointments for Claremont students are available on TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS and THURSDAYS at 3pm in May and June.  You must be at least 17 years old to donate.  Book online at Blood.ca or download the 'GiveBlood' App.  See posters around the school for the link.  See Ms Chapman in room 136 for a field trip permission form and any questions.  Donate and save lives!

 

CSI Rowing Fundraiser – Bake Sale & Bubble Tea

CSI Rowing is doing a bake sale fundraiser and, as a part of the bake sale, we are selling bubble tea in the Spartan Store at lunch on FRIDAYS. We have put up QR codes around the school and mainly in the student lounge which links to a google form where students and staff can VOTE for their top 4 bubble tea flavours which will be sold at the said time. We'll be taking results TODAY and until the end of the day WEDNESDAY.

 

Careers

Are you interested in Engineering?  This is the LAST CALL for any students interested in TEAC 105 - The Engineering Sampler Course at Camosun College for next school year.  Please see Mr. Bussoli in Room 217 as seats are filling up fast.

 

School Bus Registration for 2022-2023

Registration is now open for students to ride the school bus for the next 2022-2023 school year.  Students must be registered with SD63 Transportation Department and hold a current year bus pass in order to ride on the bus.  Registration is on-line, and you will need the following information when registering: Student Name, School, Grade, Student Number.  Here is the LINK for registration, and it will close June 15, 2022

 

Studio 63 Open for Business April 14th

Did you know that School District #63 has its own Hairstylist training programStudio 63 offers Hairdressing training in partnership with Vancouver Island University.  Appointments can be made at the studio MONDAYS-WEDNESDAYS from 12:45 to 4:00 pm or THURSDAYS from 11:30 to 6:00pm for a $5 haircut, style or scalp massage!  To book an appointment, call 250-652-5381 and support our own SD#63 Hairdressing program (located at the Saanichton Learning Centre, 1649 Mt Newton X Rd).  Walk-ins are welcome too!

 

Antigen Tests for Students

Reminder to students that if you didn’t pick up your box of 5 antigen tests yet, they are available in the office. Students are allowed to receive one box each.

 

Absences and Illness

A reminder that parents/guardians notify the school office every day that a student will be absent from school. PLEASE indicate if the reason for absence is for illness; the Ministry of Education requires that schools specifically track how many student absences are due to illness. Please notify either the Attendance email: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca or by phone message: 250-658-6666.  Please perform BC’s K-12 daily health check before arriving at school by clicking HERE .

 

How to Submit Your 30 Hours Work Experience or Volunteering

Reminder to students in Grades 10-12.... ESPECIALLY UPCOMING GRADS:

One component of Career Life Connections is to complete 30 hours of work experience or volunteering. You can provide proof of your 30 hours by:

1) Providing digital or paper pay stubs showing at least 30 hours of work, or

2) Forwarding an email from your employer/volunteer coordinator, confirming your 30 hours.

If you complete WEX12 and/or TEX (possibly a few other programs), you have automatically completed your 30 hours. If you're unsure how to accrue your hours before graduation, see your Careers teacher or ask Mrs. Watson for options.  (Grade 9 Students - You can start accruing hours in the summer before Grade 10.)

GRAD 2022

Grad Packages – Due April 21

If any grade 12's missed last week’s grad assembly, they can pick up their information package in the office, which provides details and forms about graduation events: the grad ceremony, grad dinner/dance, and the Grad Scavenger Hunt.  All Grad Forms and payment are due in the Accounting Office no later than THIS THURSDAY April 21.

 

Grad PARENT/GUARDIAN Meeting – April 20

Grad parents, be sure to mark this date on your calendars: TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) April 20 @7pm.  Plan to attend this very informative meeting covering all things about your grad’s upcoming events and activities. The Claremont Admin team and the Grad Parent Executive group will be covering details and answering all of your questions about what the plans are for celebrating the Grad Class of 2022. Scholarships

Grads!  Apply for Scholarships today!  Claremont will be giving out $58,250 in scholarships this year.  You can't win if you don't apply!  The application portal is open.  All applications are online through Claremont's website.  Check out the scholarships page.  The deadline for applications is Friday, April 22.  Do not miss out on this amazing opportunity!!!

  

Grad 2022 Fundraiser – Paint Night (April 28, 7pm)

Here is a fun way to support the 2022 grad class, while getting in touch with your inner artist.  Come and learn the basics of watercolour painting; you will end up with an art piece of your own that will motivate you to continue learning this amazing art medium. Bring a friend or just yourself - it should be a very fun and social night. All supplies are included. Spots are limited to 30 people.

This event location is Boston Pizza (by Save-On-Foods, across from Uptown) and food and drinks are available for purchase. You can sign up by RSVPing to this sign-up sheet. Your spot is held but not confirmed until you send an e-trx for $40 to . (Please use the password grad2022 for the e-trx). You will receive a confirmation email once you have paid. Grad 2022 Fundraiser - Silent Auction

The grad committee is actively seeking silent auction donations for their upcoming online auction in May. If you have a donation you would like to contribute (monetary, service item, gift certificate etc) we would love to include it in our auction. Magic Wand Project

Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux, (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge). All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included. Canadian Coast Guard Days - June 10

Are you curious about jobs with the Canadian Coast Guard? There will be an exciting event at the Canadian Coast Guard Victoria Base on FRIDAY, June 10.  Two hours of info and demonstrations include: helicopter operations, vessel tours, search and rescue, aids to navigation, as well as learning about the various job opportunities within the organization.  If you are interested in attending, contact Mrs. Watson by April 14.  cwatson@saanichschools.ca or in room 222.

Changes to BC School Food Guidelines

The BC Government has put out a survey to gather feedback on proposed changes to the Guidelines for food and beverage sales in B.C. Schools.  Please take a moment to fill out this survey out as it could mean big changes for the way our schools hold events and run fundraisers. Check out this news link for more info. Survey closes April 30.

2SLGBTQ2IA+ Drop-in Social Group

There is a new 2SLGBTQ2IA+ drop-in social group at The Upside Youth Centre.  MONDAYS from 3:30 – 5:30pmThis is a safe space to be yourself and connect with a youth leader and peers. Play games, make crafts, spend time outside and connect with our staff. Youth in Grade 6 - 12 are welcome! Sign up HERE.

 

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
