GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Red Dress Day – THURSDAY May 5

Red Dress Day is a national day of raising awareness and honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, two spirited, and men. Red dress day started as REDress Project, established in 2010 by Indigenous artist Jamie Black to focus on the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women across Canada and United States.  The dresses are empty, so that they evoke the missing women who should be wearing them. The colour red was chosen as a way of calling back the spirits of these women and allowing them a chance to have their voices heard through their family and community. Red also symbolizes our lifeblood, vitality and violence. Please wear Red to raise awareness on the 5th May.

Presentation is FRIDAY, May 13 at lunch time (11:45-12:30) in room 215.  If students are not able to attend the in-person session on May 13, they can register for one of the virtual options. There may be a few students who are still awaiting a decision. They are welcome to attend as well. See Mrs Watson in room 222 with any questions.

Extra Grad Ceremony Tickets

We have been receiving questions about how grads can receive extra tickets for the graduation ceremony. We understand that many grads hope to include other family members in the audience for this special event. This is the current status of tickets:

Once we know for certain how many students are attending the grad ceremony and they have all had a chance to receive their first two tickets, we will know how many tickets are still available.  Once we know the available number, we will put together a plan to make them available in the fairest way for families.  We anticipate that we will announce this information and the process to get more tickets through the Grad Page and the Daily Chronicle around the end of May; please note that this information will come from Claremont staff, not from UVic.  Extra tickets will be at a cost of $10 per ticket. A wait list will not be taken.

Also good to know is that the ceremony will be live-streamed for relatives far and wide to view; as well, there will be tv monitors in the UVic Centre foyer if people wish to be close by the activities.
