GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Moose Hide Campaign Day - May 12

TODAY is Moose Hide Campaign Day. The Moose Hide Campaign is a grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys who are standing up against violence towards women and children. The inspiration for the campaign came to co-founders Paul Lacerte and his daughter Raven in 2011 during a moose hunt on their traditional Carrier territory along the Highway of Tears in Northern BC – where so many women have gone missing or been murdered.

Over the years, the Moose Hide Campaign has grown into a National campaign to engage all Canadians across the country.  People of all ages, genders and cultural backgrounds are invited to participate in the Moose Hide Campaign. Since the Campaign began, thousands of Moose Hide Campaign events, ceremonies and gathering have taken place and over 2.5 million squares of moose hide have been distributed and worn.  At Claremont, we embrace the messages of reconciliation and of honour, respect and protection for all women and children.  Watch for moose hide badges being handed out this week at lunch in the student lounge.  For more information: https://moosehidecampaign.ca/

UVic: Registration 101 - May 13

Registration 101 presentations are for new undergraduate students coming to UVic in September. Join us to learn everything you need to know about becoming a UVic student, including: meeting the academic requirements stated in your offer of admission, planning which courses you'll take in your first year, and seeing how course registration works at UVic.

Presentation is THIS FRIDAY, May 13 at lunch time (11:45-12:30) in room 215.  If students are not able to attend the in-person session on May 13, they can register for one of the virtual options. There may be a few students who are still awaiting a decision. They are welcome to attend as well. See Mrs Watson in room 222 with any questions.

Extra Grad Ceremony Tickets

We have been receiving questions about how grads can receive extra tickets for the graduation ceremony. We understand that many grads hope to include other family members in the audience for this special event. This is the current status of tickets:

Once we know for certain how many students are attending the grad ceremony and they have all had a chance to receive their first two tickets, we will know how many tickets are still available.  Once we know the available number, we will put together a plan to make them available in the fairest way for families.  We anticipate that we will announce this information and the process to get more tickets through the Grad Page and the Daily Chronicle around the end of May; please note that this information will come from Claremont staff, not from UVic.  Extra tickets will be at a cost of $10 per ticket. A wait list will not be taken.

Also good to know is that the ceremony will be live-streamed for relatives far and wide to view; as well, there will be tv monitors in the UVic Centre foyer if people wish to be close by the activities.
