GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spring Music Café – TONIGHT

The Spring Music Cafe is TONIGHT in the Learning Commons, starting at 6:30pm.  Come to see many talented musical students perform in a fun evening of vocals and instrumentals in solos and small groups.  Entry is by donation.  Treats are available: have a goody and drink combo for $3.

 

“Her Story” Film Debut - June 10

Come and listen to three powerful stories told by women who found their life-calling in helping others and who are making significant contributions to society. The debut showing of the film “Her Story” will take place TOMORROW (FRIDAY) June 10th at 6pm at the Claremont Ridge Theatre. “Her Story” is produced and directed by our very own Darya Kudryavtseva. This event is also a fundraiser for Cridge Family Center; all cash donations will be gratefully accepted. Bring friends, colleagues, and family members! 

 

CC350 & Claremont Spring Sports Tournament – FRIDAY June 10

TOMORROW (FRIDAY) is the CC350 and Claremont Spring Sports Tournament..  WE are looking forward to a full day of cycling, food trucks, games, music and FUN!!  Come by to see the action during your lunch break or if you have a spare!!

 

Leftover Covid-19 Antigen Test Kits

We have less than a dozen antigen test kits now, left over from our supply for students.  If you would like another 5-pack test package, please pick one up in the office.

 

Literacy & Numeracy – June 15 & 16

Literacy & Numeracy Assessments will be held next week on WEDNESDAY June 15 & THURSDAY June 16th.  If you are currently in English 10, you will write Lit 10 with your class; if you are currently in Workplace Math 10, you will write Num 10 with your class. Students in these classes do NOT need to sign up.

Students in the following situation need to see Ms. Watson in room 222 to sign-up to write:

-grade 12s missing one of the three assessments (Num 10; Lit 10, or Lit 12)

-grade 11s missing Lit 10 or Num 10;

-grade 10s who missed Num 10 in November.

If you missed Lit 10 because of the cancellation in January, you will be writing when you are in English 11. Please see Ms. O'Brien or Ms. Watson with any questions.

REVISED Schedule for June 15 & 16

To properly schedule the Literacy & Numeracy Assessments, the entire school will follow a Copernican class schedule consisting of two long blocks per day.

WEDNESDAY June 15

Block 1: 9:00 – 11:45

(Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)

Block 3: 12:30 – 3:12

(Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)

THURSDAY June 16

Block 2: 9:00 – 11:45

(Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)

Block 4: 12:30 – 3:12

(Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)

A dainty gold-tone ring was found in the Foods room.  Please come to the office to claim it.

 

Check Your Student Email

A reminder for students to check their school email for different notices - especially Grades 10-12!

 

Work Experience Credits

Any students who think they might be working or volunteering this summer and want to receive high school credits for Work Experience, MUST REGISTER for Work Experience with Mr. Arsenault.  Come see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre any morning to register.

 

IGS - Zero Café

The Zero Café is open in the IGS Room 264 before school and at lunch every day of the week. Americanos, Lattes, Cappuccinos, we’ve got them! Get all of your delicious coffee drinks at a fraction of the price that you pay at the big coffee shops.

 

School Bus Registration for 2022-2023

Registration is now open for students to ride the school bus for the next 2022-2023 school year.  Students must be registered with SD63 Transportation Department and hold a current year bus pass in order to ride on the bus.  Registration is on-line, and you will need the following information when registering: Student Name, School, Grade, Student Number.  Here is the LINK for registrationThe Transportation Department advises that the deadline for bus registration for the 2022-2023 school year is June 15th.

 

Absences and Illness

A reminder that parents/guardians notify the school office every day that a student will be absent from school. PLEASE indicate if the reason for absence is for illness; the Ministry of Education requires that schools specifically track how many student absences are due to illness. Please notify either the Attendance email: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca or by phone message: 250-658-6666.  Please perform BC’s K-12 daily health check before arriving at school by clicking HERE .

 

ATHLETICS

Golf

Congratulations to the Claremont Golf Team for winning the Bronze medal at the BC's in Agassiz this past Sunday to Tuesday.  Your Spartans were in 5th place after day one and were able to clinch 3rd place after the second day of competition.  Second day highlights included Jacob Hagenmueller shooting 71 (par is 72) and having the second-best score of the day out of the 21 teams of five players.  Milan Sangha shot one under on the back 9.

CLUBS

Key Club – School Supply Drive

Claremont Key Club is hosting a School Supply Drive throughout the month of June! They will be accepting pencils, paper, duotangs, binders, markers, and more. Please bring any items to Ms. Pang's room (room 135), the front office, or the Learning Commons. All donations will go to the Compassionate Resource Warehouse for Ukrainian refugees.  Thank you for your support.

 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Host Families Needed

Saanich International Student Program (SISP) is actively looking for new Host Families for our International students joining us at the end of August 2022.  Make lifelong friendships, provide a student with a home away from home and share the beauty of your community!

If you are interested in this opportunity, host families are provided:

·      $975 per month per student (students must have their own bedroom)

·      Ongoing support from the SISP Homestay team

·      International students who are fully vaccinated

GRAD 2022

Sign-up for Grad Banquet Tables – TODAY

Grads, TODAY is the final day to sign up for who you wish to sit with at your banquet table. Seating is assigned for the dinner only; afterwards, everyone can move around freely and mingle.

Here are the details…..

1. Pick 1 friend to represent your group.

2. Tables can seat up to 10 guests. Your group can be from 1–10 people.  You don’t need 10 guests to submit a group.  (sign-up forms are in the office)

3. Names can only be on one list, so confirm the Grad (and Guest) want to be in your group.

4. Fill in a Sign-up Form of who is sitting at your table (No List = No Sign-up.)

     a. First and Last Name of Grad

     b. First and Last Name of the Guest.

5. TODAY at lunchtime: one member of your group brings the list to Room 220 (Robotics Room).

6. If you don’t sign up by the end of lunch TODAY, tables will be assigned for you.

Sign-up Forms are available in the office now. Come by to pick one up.

  

Grad Scavenger Hunt – June 27

We hope you're excited to participate in the Grad Scavenger Hunt on the morning of MONDAY June 27th.  This will be a fun outdoor event, followed by some cold treats afterwards. The form to sign up your team will be available NEXT WEEK. In the meantime, you can get ready by doing the following:

- organize your team of 5;

- decide who will be the team captain;

- come up with your team name;

- decide what mascot (stuffie or similar) your team will carry and give it a name;

- choose your team's theme song

Individuals can also sign up for the scavenger hunt and will be placed on teams. Individuals will be thoughtfully assigned to teams with compatible peers.

  

Scholarship: Environmental Studies

If you are a grade 12 student with plans to study Environmental Studies in university or college, please see Ms. Tong as soon as possible about a scholarship opportunity!  Room 323. 

 

Volunteers Needed for Year-End Grad 2022 Events

Our Grad Parent Executive is looking for volunteers to assist with our year-end Grad

events on MONDAY June 27th and WEDNESDAY June 29th. Parents/guardians can sign up to assist with supervision, setup, takedown and other tasks on these days by using this LINK.

Coast Guard Days

If you are one of the six students who have asked Mrs. Watson about attending the Coast Guard Days event on June 10, please check your student email or see her in room 222 as soon as possible.

 

Job Opportunity

One of our neighbors near Elk Lake is looking to hire someone for general help at her farm, mainly picking berries and weeding. The job starts as soon as possible and continues through the summer, with flexible hours. $16/hr. Please see Mrs. Watson in room 222 for contact information.

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

Family Pride Event

The first annual Saanich Pride in the Park event takes place in Beckwith Park on THURSDAY June 16, 5-9pm. This event is free, and will feature family-friendly activities, entertainment and displays. Everyone welcome.

 

2SLGBTQ2IA+ Drop-in Social Group

There is a new 2SLGBTQ2IA+ drop-in social group at The Upside Youth Centre.  MONDAYS from 3:30 – 5:30pmThis is a safe space to be yourself and connect with a youth leader and peers. Play games, make crafts, spend time outside and connect with our staff. Youth in Grade 6 - 12 are welcome! Sign up HERE.

  

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
