LUNCHTIME MEETING TODAY
Best Buddies Exchange Meeting

There will be a Best Buddies Exchange meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 235 (centre lab).  All exchange participants must attend.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Bake Sale/Hot Drinks Fundraiser - Today

TODAY, you are in for delicious treats! Two of our clubs, “The Welcomers Club” and “Youth for Change and Inclusion” have joined forces to raise money for Syrian refugees new to Victoria.   The Welcomers Club will be running a bake sale at lunch in the cafeteria and in front of the big gym.   Youth for Change and Inclusion will have coffee and hot chocolate available for most of the day in the student lounge, by donation.  All proceeds will be to the Syrian refugees.

Europe 2017
Tomorrow is the 99th Anniversary of the Canadian victory at Vimy Ridge in France.  Be there next year for the 100th Anniversary ceremony!  There will be trip information TODAY in the student lounge, or see Mr Gardner in room 327.

Math Competition
Reminder for all students who signed up for the Euclid Math Competition; see Mr Paananen for information.  The competition is this TUESDAY morning.

Canada's Most Informed Student Competition - ChatterHigh
Grade 11's - Could YOU be Canada's most informed student?  The qualifying round of "Canada's Most Informed Student” competition runs April 11 - May 20.  During this time period, grade 11 students are invited to explore post-secondary and career information in ChatterHigh's daily activity.  Students who answer 75% of questions correctly and advance into grade 12 in the fall will participate in the finals, which will take place next fall.  Top students will receive scholarships!

ATHLETICS
Rugby - Scrum Fest

The Scrum Fest rugby tournament continues TODAY and SATURDAY.  We have 30 teams from as far away as Ontario and California participating.  There will be limited cafeteria service at lunch time, and a BBQ concession with burgers, etc will be set up down on the track.  Come out and support your Spartan teams!

Open Gym for Next Year's Junior Boys Basketball Team
"Welcome to SPARTA"!  If you are in grade 9, play basketball and are interested in trying out for next year's Junior Boys Basketball team, please join us for an open gym on SUNDAY NIGHTS. This Sunday, Mr. Neufeld will open the doors at 6:30pm. Questions? FREE Training and Courses

Gardening Basics – 3 Sundays: May 1,8,15 1:00-4:00 pm at Sluggett House Garden, 1336 Marchant Rd, Brentwood Bay.  Learn from master gardeners how to maintain a professional garden (soil preparation, planting seeds and plants, plant care, weeding, pruning, and safe use and care of tools). This course will
prepare students to make money doing neighbourhood garden work, and the residents at Sluggett House will be able to enjoy the gardens and harvest the crops throughout the summer.

Retail Training – 4 Sundays: May 8-29, 9:30-4:00 at 9775 Third Street, Sidney.  This certificate program prepares you for first time work experiences in retail and many other work environments. You will be treated as an employee and you will be working alongside a busy team of staff members. You will have training in: working a cash register and counting cash, customer service, creating displays, sorting inventory, assisting with pricing, opening & closing procedures.

Apprenticeship Opportunities at Dockyard
Reminder: Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMFCB) - (Dockyard) is accepting applications until April 15th for apprenticeships in the following trades:  Marine Pipefitter; Millwright; Various Metal Trades; Machinist; Various Hull Trades; and Electrician. See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and application forms.

GRAD 2016
Grad Transition Interviews – April 13

Grad Transition Interview schedule forms are now ready for pick up in the Career Centre.  ALL students who  have not yet completed their Grad Transition Interview, and are planning to graduate in June, are now required to have their interview next week on WEDNESDAY, April 13th, in the Learning Commons. These are to be considered formal interviews, and students are to dress appropriately as for when applying for a job.
** Be sure to take all of your GT forms with you to the interview. (Work Experience, Daily Physical Activity, and the Interview Preparation form).
Pick up your interview schedule form in the Career Centre.  Interview schedules will also be posted around the school.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Tofino Trip
For all International students planning to go on the Tofino trip: the deadline for getting your paperwork and payment to Brenda is TODAY.

Pizza Lunch
For all International students:  there will be a Pizza Lunch on TUESDAY April 12 in the Choir room.  International grads, please attend for a group grad picture.
