GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Blood Drive

Roll up your sleeves to help.  200,000 donations are needed by July 1st.  Canadian Blood Services is having a national push to fill the blood bank shelves before the summer.  There are donation times available to Claremont students and staff on a number of afternoons in May.  Sign up next week in the lounge or contact Ms Chapman.  Must be 17yrs old.

Summer Session Courses
Application forms are now available for Summer Session for Academic Advancement.  Summer Session courses are designed to provide enriching opportunities for academically motivated students.  Courses are fast-paced (72 hours of classroom instruction and 38 hours of online activity) and cover the full course curriculum.  Applications are available on the Claremont website for the following courses:

  *Biology 11
  *Chemistry 11
  *Physics 11
  *Pre-Calculus 11
  *Recreational Leadership 11
  *Law 12

Report Cards
Report cards were handed out in Home Room on Tuesday.  If you did not pick yours up, they are available in the office.

IGS Hero Project - Battery Recycling Campaign
Save your batteries!!  On FRIDAY May 6th, the IGS Hero Project will be collecting old batteries at a table outside of the lounge.  Did you know that zinc deficiency is a global health challenge? 2 billion people worldwide are affected and nearly 450,000 children die every year from complications associated with zinc deficiency.  Every AA battery contains the amount of zinc needed to save the lives of six children. Let's make a difference, Claremont!

Sole Sisters – KidsRun
Sole Sisters will be holding the 7th annual “KidsRun” - a 1km and 5km run/walk on SUNDAY May 1st at 10:00 a.m. starting at the Tillicum Mall parking lot by Montana's. You can choose to walk or run either distance.  Come and enjoy a morning full of fun family activities, entertainment, on-site barbeque by donation, and silent auction.  All money raised will go to the Victoria General Hospital's Pediatrics Oncology department, to help treat cancer in children.  See Sierra Boland if you have any questions.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Lip Sync Battle - Rescheduled
The lip sync battle has been postponed until next week, TUESDAY May 3rd at lunch. Anyone who has signed up to be involved, there will be a rehearsal this FRIDAY at lunch.

CAREER CENTRE
University of Toronto

A representative from the University of Toronto will be in Victoria on THURSDAY, May 5th, for a FREE information session at St. Michael's University School, from 7-8 pm. - registration begins at 6:30.

Job Opportunities
Peninsula Country Market - If you like the outdoors, live music and farm fresh produce, this opportunity is for you! 2 shifts available. 1) 7:30-1:00 – Help set up and tear down tents and tables. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Support information table.   2) 9:00-1:00 – Greet patrons, ambassador, face painting at information table $10.50/hour
Several Garden-related jobs are available: weeding, lawn mowing, and preparing a vegetable patch.

Volunteer Opportunities
Brentwood Bay Festival, Pioneer Park, Saturday June 4th 9:00-3:00. If you are crafty or looking to work with children in the future, this is a great opportunity for you!  They need 3-4 students to meet at the SHOAL Centre, in Sidney, on May 14th at 11:00 am to help plan and prepare craft activities and face painting supplies for the YEP (Youth Employment Program) table at the Brentwood Bay Festival!
IronMan Competition - IronMan is on SUNDAY June 12th at Elk/Beaver Lakes!  Let Beacon Community Services know if you are interested in being part of a YEP volunteer team at one of the bike stations.
The CRD Hartland Landfill is hosting its annual open house on SUNDAY, June 12th, from 10:30 am - 2:00 pm.  They are seeking volunteers to help with parking, serving refreshments, directing visitors, general set-up, and more.  Lunch and beverages will be provided.

Gardening Basics Course
There is still space available for a FREE Gardening Basics course  being offered – May 1, 8 & 15 (3 Sundays in a row), 1:00 - 4:00 pm, at Sluggett House Garden,1336 Marchant Road Brentwood Bay.  Learn about the basics of gardening to help you get garden maintenance jobs!  Last call to sign up!... Victoria Flying Club Open House
Thinking about learning how to fly?  The Victoria Flying Club is having their Spring Open House on SATURDAY, May 14th, from 11:00-3:00.  Find out about Careers in Aviation, check out the planes on the ramp, try out a full motion flight simulator featuring a flight over Victoria, and so much more!  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Scholarships
Two new scholarships have been added to the district scholarships. Please visit the scholarship page for more information. Deadline for these two scholarship applications is FRIDAY May 6th at noon.

UVic Registration 101 Presentation
Students who have already registered to attend UVic in the fall (and those still considering registration), please mark your calendars for UVic's Registration 101 Presentation next week on THURSDAY May 5 at lunch in the Learning Commons .  The Reg 101 session will go over details such as program planning, timetables, course registration and next steps. The session is intended for all students who are considering attending UVic in September, whether they have been admitted yet or not.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Pizza Lunch

For all International students:  There will be a pizza lunch next week on TUESDAY, May 3.   Come and hear about our year-end BBQ for all International students.  We will also be taking another grad photo.
