GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
PEP 11/12 Classes

If you are in PEP 11 or PEP 12, our first class is tomorrow morning (THURSDAY) at 8:00 in room 323 (Ms. Tong's room).  Classes will run every THURSDAY  morning in September.  

Counselling Appointments
If you would like to see a counsellor for academic or personal reasons, please see Mrs Rhodes in the Career Centre (room 235) to book counselling appointments

Stagecraft and Musical Theatre
Stagecraft and Musical Theatre are after school courses that have started running, but it is not too late to join them. All students are welcome. Stagecraft is after school on MONDAYS and FRIDAYS for Grade 9s and WEDNESDAYS and FRIDAYS for Grade 10-12 in the theatre.  Musical Theatre is after school TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS in the theatre.

Trades Exploration Program
It's not too late to register for Claremont's TEX program, running all of Semester 2!  Seats are still available for the February start!  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and application packages.

Photo Day
School photos will be taken this THURSDAY morning September 14.  Every student in every grade needs a photo taken for school I.D. purposes, even if you do not plan to purchase photos. Appropriate clothing is mandatory and must reflect the school dress code; no hats or props will be allowed.

Student Parking
Reminder to all students who are driving cars to school:  all cars must be registered if you are parking in the student parking lot.  Please come to the office to pick up your registration form.  Students are NOT permitted to park in the staff parking lot at any time. 

Colds and Allergies
Cold season is already upon us.  If you come to school with the sniffles, please bring along your personal supply of tissues.

Forms
Please return all remaining forms to the office ASAP.  To speed up the long line-up of students, there will be bins outside the office window to drop your forms into.

CLUBS
A preliminary list of Claremont Clubs is posted in front of the Learning Commons.  Please take a look to discover many ways you can become involved at our school.  Stay tuned for details about an upcoming Clubs Showcase!


Robotics Club Meeting
If you are interested in robotics, there will be a meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 133 about the new Vex Robotics club starting at Claremont.  No robotics experience necessary.  All grades welcome.

Improv Team
The Improv Team meets MONDAYS after school in the choir room; meetings run until 5:30pm.  This is a fun introduction to improvised theatre. We have fun activities, skill development, and competitions against other schools for a chance to compete nationally.  Come check out our first meeting this Monday, or get further details form Steven Hao, Dan Gallant, Deidre Rolfe or Celina Whitney.

Queer-Straight Alliance
Claremont's Queer-Straight Alliance is starting up this week on THURSDAY at lunch in room 320.  All students welcome.

Key Club
Come check out the Key Club!  Our first meeting will be this THURSDAY at lunch in room 135.  See Ms. Pang of Mrs. Wadsworth for more information.

ATHLETICS
Fall Sport Teams
All questions about tryouts and practices can be directed to the PE Office.

Field hockey (see Ms Taylor). There will be field hockey practise after school TODAY and THURSDAY.   New players welcome.  If you signed up, please show up for practise or we will not be able to play in the league.  Ms Taylor needs to confirm numbers.
Junior Boys Volleyball (see Mr Cherry, community coach).
Junior Girls Volleyball  (see Mr Freeburn).
Senior Boys Volleyball (see Mr. Ryan) - tryouts continue THURSDAY 5:30-7:15pm in the big gym.  Please be in athletic clothes ready to go for the start.
Senior Girls Volleyball (see Ms. Tuck and Mrs. Heppell).
Junior Boys Soccer (see Mr Mitchell and Mr Earnshaw).
Senior Boys Soccer (Ms. Yager and Mr Ravenhill) - tryouts continue THURSDAY after school.
Rowing (see Mr DeLeeuw and Mrs. Harris).
Swimming (Mrs Marshall) – first meeting on THURSDAY at lunch in the small gym. Open to all students, not just academy students.
Cross Country (see Mr Nelson and Mr Dunlop).

CAREER CENTRE
Job Opportunities
See Mr Arsenault or Mrs Rhodes in the Career Centre for details about these and other job opportunities.

First Unitarian Church on West Saanich Road is looking to hire someone for childminding.  $12 per hour.       2 hours Sunday mornings from 10:15- 12:15, plus other occasions.  No religious content.
Adrienne's Tea Garden, at Mattick's Farm, is hiring for after school and weekend jobs working the front counter cash and dishwashing. 
The Sidney / North Saanich Library is hiring for Library Page positions in Sidney.  6 to 10 hours per week, after-school, evenings & weekends.  $11.35 per hour. 
 
GRAD 2018
Grad Council

The first meeting for Grad Council is TODAY at lunch in the theatre. All grade 12 students are welcome!  Come have a voice in making plans for your Grad 2018 year!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

COMMUNITY NEWS
Peninsula Youth Health Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic, is located at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney) every THURSDAY 6-8pm.  This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  Walk-ins are welcome. This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.  For more information, call or text 250-216-8389.
