GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Orange Shirt Day

Thank you, Claremont, for recognizing Orange Shirt Day TODAY and showing support for reconciliation and human rights.  We see many orange shirts in the hallways and classrooms, and we have a beautiful display of artistic orange shirts hanging in the school, made by some of our Art  students.  For all students and staff who are wearing orange shirts today, please come to the front of the school at the very start of lunch today for a group photo.

Business 140 Dual Credit Course: URGENT Meeting TODAY
Did you sign up for Business 140 and/or are you interested in taking Bus 140 this year in Semester 2?   There will be a very important meeting again TODAY at lunch in Room 217 (Mr Bussoli's classroom) regarding Business 140 Camosun Dual Credit course.  Bus 140 is running this year.  Come find out what's going on. This is a meeting you must attend. 

Breakfast Service at Claremont
The Spartan Store is serving hot breakfast and drinks, starting next week!. Come down between 8:15-8:45, TUESDAY to FRIDAY, and check out what we have to offer. Breakfast sandwiches, burritos, baked goods, smoothies and more.  All reasonably priced. You might be the lucky one to win a free breakfast item!

Five For The Fight – Tour de Rock Fundraiser
Our Five for the Fight campaign in running from now until Oct. 6th.  Bring in your $5 donation to Block 1 or make a donation at the front office. Fund-raising will end on Spartan Day (Oct. 6). Let's reach our school goal of $5000 for the Tour de Rock, who raise money for Camp Good Times for children fighting cancer.

Global Cafe
The Global Cafe is running every morning until 9:00 in the IGS room 264.  $2/coffee, includes milk/sugar.  This is a fund-raiser for the IGS program.

CLUBS
Claremont Clubs Showcase
There will be a Clubs Showcase on TUESDAY October 3 at lunch in the Learning Commons.  Come by to meet students and staff who are involved in a great variety of school-based clubs.  Learn what the clubs are about and discover many ways you can become involved at our school. 

Donor Initiative Club
This club is an initiative to spread awareness of the benefits of organ donation and may be of interest to people interested in the field of medical sciences.  We meet MONDAYs at lunch in room 276 (textiles).

Youth For Change and Inclusion
Youth For Change and Inclusion will have its first meeting this MONDAY at lunch in room 302.  Come and see what we are all about!

Writing Club
Are you interested in creative writing?  Come to a meeting on MONDAY at lunch room 320. All grades welcome.

CAREER CENTRE
Operation: This IS You - Opportunities for Girls

The Achieve Anything Foundation has partnered with the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy to offer hands-on experience opportunities for girls!  These events hope to inspire more women in Aviation, Aerospace, Marine & Defence and other STEM (science, technology, engineering& math) fields.  The first event of the series is taking place October 14th.  Visit the Career Centre for more information on these opportunities!

Careers in the Army Reserve
The Canadian Army Reserve is hosting an Open House this SATURDAY, Sept. 30th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ashton Armoury on Vanalman Avenue.  Lunch is provided.  Come find out what the Army Reserve has to offer in employment in Police/Security, Heavy Duty Mechanics, I.T. Medics, etc, training and grants for further education.  See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more info.

GRAD 2018
Grad Portraits

Attention all grads: it is time to book your grad photos.  Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time, starting October 10th.  To book you appointment, please go to the Lifetouch website: www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.  Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time.  Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment.  Information brochures are available in the school office. 

Dry Grad 2018
Calling all parents/guardians of graduating students!  Please come to a meeting in the Claremont Learning Commons on TUESDAY, Oct.10th at 7:00pm to hear about Dry Grad 2018.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Peninsula Youth Health Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic, is located at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney) every THURSDAY 6-8pm.  This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  Walk-ins are welcome. This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.  For more information, call or text 250-216-8389.
