Spartan Wear
Spartan Wear was handed out on Wednesday and Thursday at lunch time this week. If you still haven't picked up your Spartan Wear clothing order, the LAST CHANCE will be this WEDNESDAY at the start of lunch in the big gym.
Five For The Fight
Thank you Claremont for your contributions to our Five for the Fight campaign. Your combined donations met our school goal of $5000 for Tour de Rock, raising money for Camp Good Times for children fighting cancer. Way to go, Spartans!!
School Photos & I.D. Cards
There will be a short homeroom TODAY to hand out school photos and school I.D. cards. (Grade 9 students will also receive immunization forms).

Math Contest
The first math contest of the year is coming up on November 2nd. It is called the COMC and this is the contest that UBC uses in some of its scholarship decisions. The registration deadline is October 16th, so if you are interested, please sign up on the board across from room 133 in the Math wing, or see Mr. Skanks in room 130.
Lost
A brand new silver EVO compact bicycle pump has gone missing. If you have come across this pump, please help out your fellow student and return it to the office.
FREE Tickets - Victoria Royals Game
If you would like to see a Victoria Royals hockey game this TUESDAY Oct 10th, we have a bundle of FREE tickets in the office to hand out to students. Two per person, until they disappear.

Breakfast Service at Claremont
The Spartan Store is serving hot breakfast and drinks, starting this week!. Come down between 8:15-8:45, TUESDAY to FRIDAY, and check out what we have to offer. Breakfast sandwiches, burritos, baked goods, smoothies and more. All reasonably priced. You might be the lucky one to win a free breakfast item!
Global Cafe
The Global Cafe is running every morning until 9:00 in the IGS room 264, selling Level Ground coffee. This is a fund-raiser for the IGS program.

Travel Club
Do you like to travel? Come to the Travel Club meeting TODAY at lunch in room 327 with Mr Gardner to find out all of the different possibilities to travel that Claremont offers.
Vex Robotics Club
There is a mandatory Vex Robotics Club meeting for all members on TUESDAY, October 10 at lunch in room 133, which will explain Competition Week.
ATHLETICS
Sr Boys Volleyball
Congrats to the Sr. Boys Volleyball Team who won all three of their league matches last night, but they gave up a set to Royal Bay. (20-25, 25-18). The Spartans defeated Reynolds 25-11, 25-17 and defeated Belmont 25-13, 25-09. All players played in every set and contributed to these wins.
The Spartans host their first home matches next WEDNESDAY vs two very competitive teams (Royal Bay and PCS). Please come out and support your Spartans at 5:45pm.

Volunteer Opportunities

Special Olympics Bowling. Special Olympics BC is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to serve as head coach of their 5-pin bowling program on Tuesdays 5- 6:30pm at Miracle Lanes in Sidney.
Face Painting at a Halloween Pumpkin Carving Event October 22 – hosted by the Remax Realty Group. 4 face painters are needed – experience an asset, but not required.
Halloween Dance and Party at Lochside Elementary is looking for lots of Claremont students to volunteer at their school on Thursday, October 19th from 5:30 – 8:30pm. Volunteers will assist with the Cupcake Walk, assorted Halloween Midway Games and ticket sales. All volunteers will receive a free pizza dinner & cupcake. If you are interested, please sign up at the Claremont Career Centre and your names will be passed on to the organizing committee.

A rep from Drexel University (Philadelphia) is coming to Claremont on TUESDAY October 10th at 8:30 a.m. in the Student Lounge.
A rep from Queen's University (International Campus) is coming to Claremont on TUESDAY October 10th after school starting at 3:30 p.m. in the Student Lounge.
Operation: This IS You - Opportunities for Girls
The Achieve Anything Foundation has partnered with the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy to offer hands-on experience opportunities for girls! These events hope to inspire more women in Aviation, Aerospace, Marine & Defence and other STEM (science, technology, engineering& math) fields. The first event of the series is taking place October 14th. Visit the Career Centre for more information on these opportunities!

Loran Scholarship
Reminder to all grade 12 students interested in being nominated for the Loran Scholarship: the nomination deadline is this TUESDAY October 10th. Please hand in resumes to Mr Cannon (or Mrs Martin in the office) by lunchtime on Oct. 10th.
Grad Portraits
Attention all grads: it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time, starting October 10th. To book you appointment, please go to the Lifetouch website: www.lifetouch.ca/victoria. Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment. Information brochures are available in the school office. More details are on the Claremont Grad Page.

Peninsula Youth Health Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic, is located at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney) every THURSDAY 6-8pm. This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth. Walk-ins are welcome. This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space. For more information, call or text 250-216-8389.
