GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Music Winter Cafe

Claremont's Annual Music Winter Cafe is coming next WEDNESDAY December 13th in the Learning Commons at 6pm.  Anyone interested in performing: come see Mrs. English this week.

A Midsummer Night's Dream – Opens This Week
Claremont Secondary's Block 3 Year-Long Drama class presents this modern take on William Shakespeare's classic comedy, “A Midsummer Night's Dream.”. Set in a children's playground and based on characters you would find in a school, this classic comedy has been adapted and edited to make it even more accessible for modern audiences, while keeping the vast majority of Shakespeare's beautiful language.  Featuring a cast of 25 students in grades 9-12, this production is being performed on Dec 7-9 and Dec 13-16 nightly at 7:30pm. All tickets are $7.50 at the door.  For more info, please contact the director Mr. Plant at cplant@sd63.bc.ca or call 250-658-6672.

It's Cold Season
Please be mindful that during cold season it is important to get plenty of rest, eat healthy foods, and wash your hands often.  Situated throughout the school are hand sanitizer stations; please take advantage of these stations and keep your hands clean.

Basketball Scorekeepers Needed
With Basketball season underway at Claremont, there is a need for scorekeepers.  For each game, three volunteers are required: one to operate the score clock, one to run the 30 second shot clock, and one person to record results on the score sheet.  Scorekeepers have an important job working with the referees to ensure each game runs successfully for players and coaches.  If you are interested in being an official score keeper, please see Mr. Westhaver.

Toys 4 Teens
The 5th annual Toys 4 Teens Donation Drive is underway, running every day until December 12. Please donate $10 gift cards for Teens in Need in your Block 2 class. A few ideas include gift cards for: music, books, coffee shops, movies, clothing, sporting goods, cosmetics, etc.  There are lots of good ideas out there! The winning class will attend the wrap-up event at Mayfair Mall on Dec. 15. Our school goal is 1000 gift cards. This event is in collaboration with the Zone's Annual Toy Drive.  Go Spartans!

School Bus Passes
If you are registered to ride the school bus, the bus passes have arrived.  Please come to the office to pick yours up.  New scan units have been installed on all buses by the front doors; it will be the bus riders’ responsibility to scan on and off the bus.  This scanning process will be mandatory for all registered riders.

Math Club
TODAY's Math Club will be only for grade 9-10 students.  Come to room 137 at lunch to learn about the following two opportunities:
1.  The Math Challengers is a team competition that takes place at Camosun in February.  We can send teams of grade 9s and teams of grade 10s.  We frequently do well at this regional competition, and then go on to the provincial competition at Simon Fraser University later in the spring.
2.  Also this spring, the University of Waterloo is offering a one-day workshop for grade 9-10 girls put on by female math graduates.  These women work in fields like game development, investment banking, and financial crimes investigation, and they will lead math activities based on their field, and also answer career questions.  The University will pay for all your expenses to attend.
