GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
School Bus Passes

There are many bus passes still waiting to be picked up from the office; these are for students who registered to ride the bus at the start of the school year, not for students who registered within the last two weeks. A list has been posted outside of the office.  Please check to see if your name is on the list.

New Bus Passes
All students who applied for a bus pass within the last two weeks are advised that it will be several weeks until new bus passes are ready. We will make an announcement on the PA system when the new bus passes arrive.

Dropping a Semester 1 Class?
The last day for students to drop a semester 1 course is FRIDAY December 22nd.  Forms are available in the Career Centre.  After Dec. 22, students will not be allowed to drop a Semester 1 class.

Music Winter Cafe
Claremont's Annual Music Winter Cafe is coming next WEDNESDAY December 13th in the Learning Commons at 6pm.  Anyone interested in performing: come see Mrs. English TODAY.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Claremont Secondary's Block 3 Year-Long Drama class presents a modern take on William Shakespeare's classic comedy, “A Midsummer Night's Dream.” Set in a children's playground and based on characters you would find in a school, this classic comedy has been adapted and edited to make it even more accessible for modern audiences, while keeping the vast majority of Shakespeare's beautiful language.  Featuring a cast of 25 students in grades 9-12, this production is being performed on Dec 7-9 and Dec 13-16 nightly at 7:30pm. Toys 4 Teens
Our Toys 4 Teens Donation Drive runs until December 12. Please donate $10 gift cards for Teens in Need in your Block 2 class. A few ideas include gift cards for: music, books, coffee shops, movies, clothing, sporting goods, cosmetics, etc.  There are lots of good ideas out there! The winning class will attend the wrap-up event at Mayfair Mall on Dec. 15. Our school goal is 1000 gift cards. This event is in collaboration with the Zone's Annual Toy Drive.  Go Spartans!

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Christmas Lip-Sync Battle

Student Government will be hosting a festive lip-sync battle at lunch on TUESDAY December 19th.  The sign-up sheet is on the theatre door.

CLUBS
Warm Clothes for Cold People - YCI

YCI is looking for anyone and everyone to donate new or gently used warm clothing to the Out of the Rain Youth Shelter.  Useful items include: clean, warm socks, sleeping bags, hoodies, t-shirts, warm jackets, toques, and gloves. Look for the collection bins in front of the office.

Key Club Fundraiser
This MONDAY, TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY (Dec 11-13) Key Club will be selling pottery mugs, bowls, and plates to raise funds for charities Key Club supports. It's a great opportunity to get some holiday gifts and be charitable too!

Key Club – Locker Wrapping
Let's Get Festive!!  If you would like your locker (or your friend's locker) Xmas wrapped, TODAY is the last day to place your order.  Head over to the Key Club table at lunch in the lounge. Lockers are $2.

ATHLETICS
Senior Girls Basketball

The Sr Girls team hosts the popular Xmas tournament, playing TODAY at 11:30 in our gym vs Harry Ainlay from Alberta; it would be awesome to have a packed gym for the opposition to meet the Spartan Nation. With teacher permission, please come out and cheer loud.

Training/Job Opportunity

The Beach House Restaurant is looking for students who are wanting to gain some work experience hours through training, and possibly work towards a part-time job. Come to the Career Centre if you are interested!

Basics of Finance - Free Training
New Basics of Finance training course! You will learn all about credit cards, pre-paid cards and loans, the advantages and disadvantages, what to look for and how to calculate the “real” cost of a loan. Saturday January 27th 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney.  More information in the Career Centre.

GRAD 2018
Dry Grad Meeting

The next Dry Grad meeting is TUESDAY Dec. 12 @ 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons.  All parents from all grades are welcome to attend.  This is a great way to get information about Dry Grad and get involved.

Grad Transition
Grade 12s:  give yourself the gift of a completed Grad Transition!!!  Congratulations to the almost 40 students who have already submitted their GT!!   Pick up you GT forms from the Career Centre and get it done!  Graduation Transition is a Grad Requirement.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Travel Applications

For all International students: Overnight and Day Travel applications are due WEDNESDAY December 13th.  Please  hand them into Brenda

Peninsula Youth Health Clinic – New Hours

Important: Hours have changed - The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is now open every Thursday from 5-7pm. Walk in's are welcome, but if you are interested in booking an appointment or would like more info, call the clinic at 250-656-4114.  Location: at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney)   This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.
