GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dropping a Semester 1 Class?
The last day for students to drop a semester 1 course is FRIDAY December 22nd. Forms are available in the Career Centre. After Dec. 22, students will not be allowed to drop a Semester 1 class.
Music Winter Cafe
Claremont's Annual Music Winter Cafe is coming next WEDNESDAY December 13th in the Learning Commons at 6pm. Anyone interested in performing: come see Mrs. English this week.
A Midsummer Night's Dream – Opens Tonight
Opening Night is TONIGHT!!! Claremont Secondary's Block 3 Year-Long Drama class presents a modern take on William Shakespeare's classic comedy, “A Midsummer Night's Dream.” Set in a children's playground and based on characters you would find in a school, this classic comedy has been adapted and edited to make it even more accessible for modern audiences, while keeping the vast majority of Shakespeare's beautiful language. Featuring a cast of 25 students in grades 9-12, this production is being performed on Dec 7-9 and Dec 13-16 nightly at 7:30pm. All tickets are $7.50 at the door. New Bus Passes – 2 Important Messages
1) The School Board Office has been overwhelmed with hundreds of new registration requests for bus passes in the past two weeks from students in the whole School District. All students who have applied for a bus pass within the last two weeks are advised that it will be several weeks until new bus passes are ready. If you have submitted your registration form, your name will appear on a list of registered bus riders; please advise your bus driver that you are waiting to receive your bus pass. We will make an announcement on the PA system when the new bus passes arrive.
2) Students must NOT put holes in their bus passes or alter the cards in any way. The new scanners have already experienced cards that do not work as a result.
Toys 4 Teens
We are 2/3 of the way through our Toys 4 Teens Donation Drive, running until December 12. Please donate $10 gift cards for Teens in Need in your Block 2 class. A few ideas include gift cards for: music, books, coffee shops, movies, clothing, sporting goods, cosmetics, etc. There are lots of good ideas out there! The winning class will attend the wrap-up event at Mayfair Mall on Dec. 15. Our school goal is 1000 gift cards. This event is in collaboration with the Zone's Annual Toy Drive. Go Spartans!

Christmas Lip-Sync Battle
Student Government will be hosting a festive lip-sync battle at lunch on TUESDAY December 19th. The sign-up sheet is on the theatre door.
CLUBS
Warm Clothes for Cold People - YCI
YCI is looking for anyone and everyone to donate new or gently used warm clothing to the Out of the Rain Youth Shelter. Useful items include: clean, warm socks, sleeping bags, hoodies, t-shirts, warm jackets, toques, and gloves. Look for the collection bins in front of the office.
Key Club Fundraiser
On MONDAY Dec 11th, TUESDAY the 12th, and WEDNESDAY the 13th, Key Club will be selling pottery mugs, bowls, and plates to raise funds for charities Key Club supports. It's a great opportunity to get some holiday gifts and be charitable too!
Key Club – Locker Wrapping
Let's Get Festive!! If you would like your locker (or your friend's locker) Xmas wrapped, head over to the Key Club table this week to place your order: the table will be set up TODAY and FRIDAY at lunch in the lounge. Lockers are $2.

Jr Boys Soccer
All Jr Boys Soccer players: there is a quick meeting TODAY at the start of lunch in the IGS room 264.
Basketball
Last night the Jr Boys 'B' Bball Spartans prevailed in Esquimalt's house 59-51. The boys kept their composure even with the extremely rowdy home crowd. Big first win!
On Tuesday, the Sr and Jr Boys and Girls teams all won their first league games.
The Sr Boys are in Cowichan this weekend.
The Sr Girls host a team from Saskatchewan TONIGHT at 7pm and then open the popular Xmas tournament on FRIDAY at 11:30 in our gym vs Harry Ainlay from Alberta; it would be awesome to have a packed gym for the opposition to meet the Spartan Nation. With teacher permission, please come out and cheer loud.

New Basics of Finance training course! You will learn all about credit cards, pre-paid cards and loans, the advantages and disadvantages, what to look for and how to calculate the “real” cost of a loan. The next Dry Grad meeting is TUESDAY Dec. 12 @ 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons. All parents from all grades are welcome to attend. This is a great way to get information about Dry Grad and get involved.

Peninsula Youth Health Clinic – New Hours
Important: Hours have changed - The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is now open every Thursday from 5-7pm. Walk in's are welcome, but if you are interested in booking an appointment or would like more info, call the clinic at 250-656-4114. Location: at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney) This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth. This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.
