GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Winter Music Cafe Tonight

Tonight is the Winter Music Cafe.  Come listen to a wonderful range of musical talents of Claremont students (vocals & instrumentals, ensembles & solos).  6:00-8:00pm TONIGHT in the Learning Commons.
$10 admission includes a selection of appetizers and a cozy evening of beautiful music. Everyone welcome!!

Toys 4 Teens
We did it, Claremont!! Grand total ... 1026 ... $10,260 worth of donations to our community. Thank you Spartans!
Two winning classes were chosen this year:
1. Mr Reisig's Lacrosse 11/12 class: $435 + a generous family donation of $1000.
2. Mr Quested's English 9 class:  $920 (boys vs girls competition).
Honourable mention to Mr Freeburn's English 10 class: $1165 (including a generous family donation).
Shout out to Ms McAvoy's Biology 11 class and Ms Tong's English 12 class!

A Midsummer Night's Dream – Final Week
This is the final week to watch Block 3 Year-Long Drama's “A Midsummer Night's Dream.” Set in a children's playground and based on characters you would find in a school, this classic comedy has been adapted and edited to make it even more accessible for modern audiences, while keeping the vast majority of Shakespeare's beautiful language.  Featuring a cast of 25 students in grades 9-12, this production runs from Dec 13-16 nightly at 7:30pm.  All tickets are $7.50 at the door.  For more info, please contact the director Mr. Plant at cplant@sd63.bc.ca or call 250-658-6672.

Dropping a Semester 1 Class?
The last day for students to drop a semester 1 course is FRIDAY December 22nd.  Forms are available in the Career Centre.  After Dec. 22, students will not be allowed to drop a Semester 1 class.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Holiday Week

Student Government is hosting fun and festive events to celebrate the last week before the winter break.
MONDAY Dec 18 – Ornament-making contest at lunch in the lounge.  Ornaments will be hung in the school for the rest of the week for all to enjoy!
TUESDAY Dec 19 – Christmas Lip-Sync Battle at lunch in the theatre. ** Make sure you sign up on the performers list posted on the theatre door.
WEDNESDAY Dec 20 – Snowflake-making contest at lunch in the lounge.  Snowflakes will be hung in the school for the rest of the week for all to enjoy!
THURSDAY Dec 21 – “The Grinch” movie (animated version) in the theatre at lunch.
FRIDAY Dec 22 – Ugly Sweater and Santa Hat Day!! HO HO HO!!!

CLUBS
Math Club - Math Challengers

Math Challengers is a team competition that is open to grade 9 students.  It takes place at Camosun College in February, but the registration deadline is MONDAY December 18th.  Any grade 9 student who is interested, please sign up this week on the math contest board outside room 133, or talk to Mr. Skanks in room 130.

Warm Clothes for Cold People - YCI
YCI is looking for anyone and everyone to donate new or gently used warm clothing to the Out of the Rain Youth Shelter.  Useful items include: clean, warm socks, sleeping bags, hoodies, t-shirts, warm jackets, toques, and gloves. Look for the collection bins in front of the office.

Key Club Fundraiser

TODAY is the final day that Key Club will be selling pottery mugs, bowls, and plates to raise funds for charities Key Club supports. It's a great opportunity to get some holiday gifts and be charitable too!  Please come to the lounge at lunchtime.

Junior Girls "B" Basketball

Junior Girls "B" Basketball team: there is a meeting TODAY at lunch in the small gym to check our numbers for today's 5:45 pm game.  Remember to bring $ for your warm-up shirt.

CAREER CENTRE
Job Opportunities

There are short and long-term job opportunities in the Sidney/North Saanich area.
1)  4-hour weekly yard work ($15 per hour).
2)  January weekend help with moving.  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Basics of Finance - Free Training
New Basics of Finance training course! You will learn all about credit cards, pre-paid cards and loans, the advantages and disadvantages, what to look for and how to calculate the “real” cost of a loan. Saturday January 27th 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney.  More information in the Career Centre.

GRAD 2018
Grad Portrait Retakes

If you missed getting your grad portraits taken, or if you need retake grad photos taken, Lifetouch is returning to Claremont with their portable photo studio for two days only:  January 22 & 23.  You can book your appointment online now by going to www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.

Grad Transition
Grade 12s:  give yourself the gift of a completed Grad Transition!!!  Congratulations to the almost 40 students who have already submitted their GT!!   Pick up you GT forms from the Career Centre and get it done!  Graduation Transition is a Grad Requirement.

Peninsula Youth Health Clinic – New Hours

Important: Hours have changed - The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is now open every Thursday from 5-7pm. Walk in's are welcome, but if you are interested in booking an appointment or would like more info, call the clinic at 250-656-4114.  Location: at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney)   This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.
