GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Deadline for Bus Registration

The last day for bus registrations for the 2017-2018 school year is TODAY.  As of February 1st, the Transportation Department will no longer be accepting bus registrations. If there are extenuating circumstances, parents/guardians will be required to contact the Transportation Department (at the School Board office) directly to register:: 250-652-7343 or transportation@sd63.bc.ca .

Textbook Return
Remember to return ALL textbooks from first semester ASAP... because you may not get your second semester text books until that is done.

New Students in Semester 2
If you are a student starting at Claremont for semester 2, please come to the office to get an important form to allow you to open a Google Student Account for your school work.

Claremont Improv Team
Congrats to the Claremont Improv Team for qualifying for the Islands of the Canadian Improv Games this coming weekend at Vic High.  The team competed at the South Island competition on Jan 20th at Esquimalt.  If you want to come cheer them on, they are competing again this FRIDAY at Vic High at 7:30pm.   If they win, they qualify for the Nationals in Ottawa!

A Swell bottle was found in the school.  Please come to the office to claim it.

Musical Theatre Presents “Annie”
Claremont's Musical Theatre program presents “Annie.”  Tickets are now on sale through Mrs. Marshall in the accounting office; call 250-658-6672.  7pm shows run Feb 28 - March 3, and March 7- 10. Additional 1pm matinees on March 3 & 10 . Tickets are $15 Adults / $12.50 for Students/Seniors/Children 12 and under  (groups of 10 or more, $12 each).   Open seating. Plan early; this show is sure to sell out!!

CLUBS
VEX Robotics
There is a VEX Robotics meeting for all members TODAY at lunch in the Robot Room.

VEX Robotics Results

Congratulations to the Claremont VEX Robotics Team of Jake Zhao, Hans Shi, Russell Bilinski, and Tyson Sinotte.  This first year team held their own against much more experienced teams and qualified for the Consolation Finals at the North Island Challenge.  Well done team.

Math Contests
Grade 9 Math Challengers team:  please meet if you can after school on THURSDAY this week in room 130 to pick up permission forms and to practice.
All math club students are invited to sign up for two math contests this month.  There are spots available for grade 12 students to write the AMC next week on Feb 7th.  Also, sign up is open for students in grade 9, 10 and 11 to sign up for the Pascal/Cayley/Fermat contests.  These contests are the easiest of all the contests we offer, and writing contests looks great on scholarship applications.  Sign-up sheets are outside room 133.

ATHLETICS
Senior Girls Soccer

For those interested in playing Senior Girls Soccer this year, there will be a brief meeting this FRIDAY at lunch in the small gym.

Tennis
Anyone interested in playing on the school tennis team this year, please see Mr Gardner on FRIDAY at lunch in room 327. Practices start next week.

Rugby
Are you interested in playing rugby this spring?  There are important start-up meetings for all interested students:
Grade 9-12 Boys this THURSDAY at lunch in the big gym. No experience required. Both junior and senior boys teams need LOTS of new players.
Grade 9-12 Girls will have a meeting next week. Stay tuned for date and location.

Basketball Spirit Games on Thursday
Spartan Nation shows Spartan pride this Thursday, Feb 1st.
Our Jr Boys kickoff the evening with a game at 4:15 vs Lambrick that will determine the league champs - winner comes first in league.
Next up are our provincially ranked top 10 Sr Girls facing a very good SMU team at 5:45.
The night finishes with our Sr Boys taking on Belmont in a game that will likely determine 2nd place in league and a very important seed heading into playoffs.  It will also be the last HOME league game for our graduating seniors.
Come out and cheer on the home teams and show Spartan Nation pride!!  Prizes will be on hand, pizza, our mascot and VIP seating for lucky winners of Student Government's Karaoke Competition (held in the theatre TODAY and THURSDAY at lunch).    Make it a sea of RED that night and all wear RED!!!

Job Fair – Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens is hosting a Job Fair on TUESDAY, February 20th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm., in the Coffee Shop. They are recruiting for spring and summer jobs in most departments, with wages starting at $15.00 per hour.  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

A Women in Trades and Technology Exploration Day is taking place at Camosun College on Wednesday, February 21st, from 9:30-2:00. Check out important and well paying careers in the following:
Trades - Electrical, Auto Service, Sheet Metal/Metal Fab, and Carpentry.
Technology- Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.

Science at Sea Opportunity for Girls
FREE hands-on experience event for girls (14+) and women!!! Operation: This IS You! SAR & Science at Sea on SATURDAY Feb 3 in Sidney, BC - Come experience Canadian Coast Guard.  AWESOME!!! Space still available if you hurry up and apply now!!   Hands-on activities will include elements from Coast Guard Search & Rescue, Canadian Hydrographic Service, Marine Communications & Traffic Services, Electronics, Marine Engineering, Fisheries and Oceans Canada Science and a tour of CCGS Tanu.  Please visit the Career Centre for more information.

Training Opportunity

Student Casting Call: Season 4 of “The Wealthy Life”

Here is a chance to feel like a movie star, get expert advice on your financial situation and help fellow Canadians. The Wealthy Life is looking for applicants to sit in the well-known white chair to have a casual and informative chat with financial guru, Sybil Verch, in front of the camera. As a guest on The Wealthy Life, you will first have a one-on-one call with Sybil to discuss your situation and big questions before filming. Youth Clinic
The main Victoria Youth Clinic is open to all youth and is located at  818 Douglas Street on the 3rd floor. It is open Monday to Thursday 11-5 and Friday 11-4.
