GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Internet/Social Media Safety and Digital Literacy Presentation for Parents

Claremont Secondary School, the Claremont PAC and COPACS for School District 63 is hosting a presentation by Darren Laur on "Internet/Social Media Safety and Digital Literacy for Parents" TONIGHT at the Claremont Ridge Theatre between 7-9pm.  Admissions is free to parents and guardians of students in SD63, but we are asking that participants register their attendance through Eventbrite.ca (link below) as we have limited seating in the Claremont Ridge Theatre.

Spain / France Spring Break 2018
For all students going on the Spring Break trip to Spain/France: there is am important meeting TONIGHT at 7pm in room 303. Be sure to bring your parents and your passports! See you there.

NYC 2019 Spring Break Parent/Student Meeting – Note TIME CHANGE
All students and parents who are interested in learning more (or joining the trip) are invited to attend an info session TOMORROW (Wednesday) at 5pm in the Ridge Playhouse (please note the time change).  This one-hour meeting will discuss the proposed trip in detail and Mr. Plant will answer all questions. There is a $200 discount if you sign up by March 15th.  If you cannot attend or have more questions please contact Mr. Plant at cplant@sd63.bc.ca

Music Concert
Come hear the Greater Victoria Concert Band and the Swiftsure Big Band playing at our Ridge Theatre at 7pm on Friday March 16th.

Math Contests
Sign-up sheets for next month's Euclid, Fryer, Galois and Hypatia math contests are now up in the math wing. Registration deadline is before Spring Break.

March is RESPECT Month
For the month of March, Claremont staff are going to be looking to "catch students being good". We will be keeping our eyes open for students who exemplify our Core Value of Respect.  All students who are nominated will be invited to a special month-end Respect Lunch hosted by Ms. O'Brien and Mr. Hayes. Show us what R-E-S-P-E-C-T means to you!

For all students interested in being on the Track & Field team: there will be a practice TODAY after school.  Please meet down at the shed at the end of the staff parking lot.

Junior Girls Soccer final try-out is TODAY at Lochside Turf 3:30-4:30. Hope to see you there!

Job Opportunities

Berwick House: The family of a Berwick House resident is looking for a student that is interested in spending 1 to 2 hours every day after school reading or just spending time talking with their elderly family member. Competitive wage.  Please see Phil McOrmond in the Art room during Block 1 or call 778-430-0440.

Fish O' Chips on Resthaven in Sidney is looking for a couple of students for dish washing and food prep. $13 per hour.
The Beacon Drive-In, (near Beacon Hill Park- downtown), is looking for help after school and weekends with dish washing and serving. Competitive rates.

Volunteer Opportunity
Volunteers are needed for the annual ReMax Easter Egg Hunt at Beaver Lake Park, Saturday March 31st from 8:00am to 1:00pm, to help with Face Painting, Cake Decorating, hiding Easter Eggs and more! Dressing up like a bunny is encouraged! Hot chocolate and a hot dog available to volunteers. Please sign up in the Career Centre.

GRAD 2018
Scholarships Meeting

Grads: There will be a Scholarship meeting with Mr Cannon TOMORROW (Wednesday) at lunch in the Learning Commons.  Be sure to attend to hear about opportunities and details about many scholarships and bursaries that you may be eligible to apply for. Every year, many scholarships go unclaimed because students didn’t know they were available.  Don’t let that be YOU.... be informed!

Magic Wand
The Magic Wand is a non-profit organization that offers an eco-friendly and inexpensive alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys.  The Magic Wand  is for ANY grad to borrow a dress or tux, rather than buy (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge).  All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included.  To book an appointment to view the selection of available clothes, phone 250-658-0246.

Grad Transition
Grads!  Time is running out to get your Grad Transition done before the Spring Break deadline! Those who wait will be scheduled for a formal GT interview in April. Appropriate dress, cover letter and resume will be required at that time. Plan to complete your GT before the deadline with your choice of a Claremont teacher or staff member to do your interview!  Grad Transition is a Grad requirement. GT forms available from the Career Centre.

Dry Grad Fundraiser - Family Portraits
Receive a Hudson Wren Black & White Portrait Gift Certificate valued at $450. The gift certificates are $100 for a weekday appointment and $150 for a weekend appointment. The entire sitting fee, $100 or $150, accordingly, will go directly to the Claremont Dry Grad 2018!  Appointments are for the month of April only! Thrifty Smile Cards are available in the office for families (all grades) who would like to support Claremont's Dry Grad 2018.
Return It Bottle Depot - Dropping off bottles? Why not donate to the Claremont Dry Grad 2018 account? How?  At the beginning of the transaction please state that funds are to be donated to "Claremont Grad 2018."  Families of all grades are welcome to participate.

Are you the parent of a Grade 12 student? We'd love to share our plans for Dry Grad 2018 with you! Please join us at the Parent After Grad Committee Meeting TONIGHT at 7pm, in the Claremont Learning Commons. Parents of all grades are invited. We'd love to see everyone! We're excited to share the plans that we've made, and to let you know the areas in which we need assistance.
If your student is on the Grade 12 Grad Executive Committee, please ask them to join us, as we would love their input on what we have so far.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic will be re-opening on Thursday, March 15th! The youth clinic has a new location at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and will be open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand. Join the clinic for their grand opening celebrations on Thursday, March 15th - there will be pizza and an opportunity to receive the newly printed ‘Help Cards’ created by youth for youth.

Youth Clinic
The main Victoria Youth Clinic is open to all youth and is located at  818 Douglas Street on the 3rd floor. It is open Monday to Thursday 11-5 and Friday 11-4.
