GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pick-up & Drop-offs

Reminder to parents when dropping off and picking up students:  please be conscientious about not blocking the driveways of our neighbours.  The front of the school is becoming very congested with waiting cars and, in particular, Strangcrest Place, right across the road from the school, has become problematic for neighbours.  We hope that students can be picked up a little further down the road (a short walk and some fresh air is always a good thing).  Thank you for your cooperation.

After School Support
After school support for all students who may need it (including International students) , starts today after school in room 235 in the Career Centre Computer Lab.  After school support will be open TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS for an hour right after school.

Cafeteria
Lunchtime cafeteria is now fully running with a delicious selection of sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, and sweets.  The menu changes daily.  This service is cash only OR you can pre-purchase a punch card for $5 or $10 (from the Accounting office).

Looking for Witnesses to a Motor-Vehicle Incident
A motor-vehicle incident occurred last week on Wednesday Sept 12 @ approximately 8:45 a.m. on Haliburton Rd involving a black Kia Spectrum and a white truck & trailer. A Claremont parent is hoping that anyone who actually witnessed this incident happen will please make contact with information.  If you witnessed the incident happen, please contact Mrs Martin in the office and she will give you the contact information for the parent who is looking for a witness. Thank you to the one witness who has already come forward!!

CLUBS
Spirit Squad

The first Spirit Squad meeting is TODAY at lunch in the Dance Studio room 246. This club will be planning and supporting fun school spirit events. See Ms Giordano or Ms McManus for more info.

Robotics Club
The following students need to see Mr. Paananen TODAY at lunch in Room 133:
Tyson SINOTTE, Shawn PHELPS, Russell BILINSKI, Makena MORGAN, Sam DANG, Marc SMITH, Jishang JIANG, and Clarissa GLOVER-SCANLAN.

The next Robotics meeting is WEDNESDAY at lunch in room 220.

ATHLETICS
Cross Country

If you are still interested in joining the cross country team, there is important paper work to pick up in Mr. Nelson's room (137). You will need these forms if you plan on racing this Wednesday.  Practice is TODAY after school.

Jr Boys Soccer
For all Jr Boys Soccer players, there is a mandatory team meeting TODAY at lunch in Mr. Mitchell’s room (264)

Field Hockey
Our first game is TOMORROW (Wednesday) at UVic.

CAREER CENTRE
University Visits

A representative from the University of New Brunswick will be at Claremont this THURSDAY Sept. 20th at 8:30 a.m. in the Student Lounge. Stop by to find out about admission requirements and programs offered at the U of NB!

A representative from the University of Calgary will be at Claremont on MONDAY Sept. 24th at lunch in the Student Lounge. 

Camosun Program Info Night
Camosun College will be hosting this year's first information session for the Sport & Exercise Education Programs this THURSDAY, Sept. 20th, from 6-7 pm. Bring all of your questions to the Camosun Interurban Campus PISE building!

Highschool Student Greeters are needed for the 2018 General Local and School Board Election on Saturday, October 20, 2018. $100 for a six-hour shift from either 8 am to 2 pm OR 2 pm to 8 pm. Students are required to to attend a one-hour training session prior to working on voting day and you will be compensated an additional $20. Applications are due Friday, September 21; email your application to elections@saanich.ca.

Adrienne's Tea Garden at Mattick's Farm is looking for dishwashers and cashier personnel.  Must be 16 older; experience is an asset. 

Fire/Rescue Camp
The Gulf Island Fire/Rescue Camp is 5-1/2 days long and takes place during Spring Break in March.
Find out about about the challenges, tools and rewards of this exciting career. Applications are due Nov. 8 and applicants must be 15-18 years of age.  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for Fire Camp details.

Work Experience 12 Credits
A reminder to students wishing to receive Work Experience credits for this year, that you need to register with Mr. Arsenault before the September 30th deadline!  If you have a job or are volunteering, register soon to receive credit for your hours! This time can also count toward the grade 12 Grad Transition requirement. Please visit the Career Centre to sign up soon!

For all International students:  there is a mandatory meeting TODAY at lunch in the big gym.   All International students must attend.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Army Cadets

If you are 12-18 and are interested in finding out about all of the great things that army cadets do, the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps invites students to join the 3005-11 Service Batallion on THURSDAYS 6:30-9:00 pm at the Lt Gen Ashton Armouries, 724 Vanalman Ave.  For more information, see saanicharmycadets.ca or our Career Centre.

Pendray Farms Corn Maze
On SATURDAY September 29, Pendray Farms Corn Maze is teaming up with Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank: with a donation of a non-perishable food item, 1 child per family will be given free entry to the maze that day. Pendray Farms is at 9537 West Saanich Road, North Saanich.  Information flyers are available in the Claremont office.
