GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Student Drivers
A reminder to students drivers that if you are parking in our student lot, parking passes and parking forms need to be completed and submitted to the office by next FRIDAY Sept 28.

Pick-up & Drop-offs
Reminder to parents when dropping off and picking up students:  please be conscientious about not blocking the driveways of our neighbours.  The front of the school is becoming very congested with waiting cars and, in particular, Strangcrest Place, right across the road from the school, has become problematic for neighbours.  We hope that students can be picked up a little further down the road (a short walk and some fresh air is always a good thing).  Thank you for your cooperation.

After School Support
After school support for all students who may need it (including International students), continues today after school in room 235 in the Career Centre Computer Lab.  After school support will be open TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS for an hour right after school.

Girls Lacrosse Class – Meeting Sept. 25
All girls signed up for the girls lacrosse class in semester 2 must attend a very important on TUESDAY, Sept. 25th at the beginning of lunch in room 276 (textiles room). Topics include: Friday Night Lights Game, practices, fund raising, class expectations, and class fees.  See Ms. Taylor (PE office) if, for an exceptionally good reason, you are not able to make the meeting. 

CLUBS
Biology Club
Are you interested in anything to do with Biology and getting some extra hands-on experiences like dissections, field trips to universities, botanical beach, etc.? Come to the first Biology Club meeting of the year this THURSDAY at lunch in room 200. Bring your ideas of what you would like to do, all grades are welcome.

Robotics Club
Meeting is TODAY at lunch in room 220.

ATHLETICS
Girls Volleyball
All girls volleyball players, including Jr Red, Jr Blue, and Senior:  there is a meeting TODAY at lunch in the small gym.

Jr Boys Soccer
For all Jr Boys Soccer players:  there is a mandatory meeting TODAY at lunch in Mr Mitchell’s room (264).  Please bring your signed forms.

Field Hockey
There is a Field Hockey meeting TODAY at lunch in room 276. We will organize the clothing order, review rules and arrange transportation for those playing in the game after school.  See Ms. Taylor if you cannot be at the meeting

CAREER CENTRE
Canadian Universities Event
The annual Canadian Universities Event is taking place this year at Stelly's School on TUESDAY, Sept. 25th, from 1:45-3:00 pm. School Bus transportation will be provided for a limited number of Grade 12 students interested in attending.  Please sign up and pick up consent forms in the Career Centre. Deadline to return completed forms: this FRIDAY Sept. 21st.

University Visits
A representative from the University of New Brunswick will be at Claremont TOMORROW (Thursday) at 8:30 a.m. in the Student Lounge. Stop by to find out about admission requirements and programs offered at the U of NB!

A representative from the University of Calgary will be at Claremont on MONDAY Sept. 24th at lunch in the Student Lounge. 

Camosun Program Info Night
Camosun College will be hosting this year's first information session for the Sport & Exercise Education Programs TOMORROW (Thursday) from 6-7 pm. Bring all of your questions to the Camosun Interurban Campus PISE building!

Job Opportunity

On call server at the SHOAL Center dining room; $17 per hour on weekends and some week day evenings.
Vacuuming in a residence on Bazan Bay Rd;  2 hours per week - $15 per hour.
Vacuuming and cleaning floors 2 hours every 2 weeks;  $15.00.

Highschool Student Greeters are needed for the 2018 General Local and School Board Election on Saturday, October 20, 2018. $100 for a six-hour shift from either 8 am to 2 pm OR 2 pm to 8 pm. Students are required to to attend a one-hour training session prior to working on voting day and you will be compensated an additional $20. Applications are due Friday, September 21; email your application to elections@saanich.ca.

Here is an opportunity to support children and youth with autism in your community.  Canucks Autism Network is looking for volunteers for different programs:
I Can Swim:  Saturdays 4:00-5:45, Sept. 29th to Nov. 24th (Juan de Fuca Rec Centre)
I Can Play Sports and Be Active:  Saturdays 1:15-3:00, Oct. 10 to Nov. 28 (Royal Oak Middle School)
I Can Skate: Saturdays 4:30-5:30, Sept. 29 to Dec. 8 (Juan de Fuca Rec Centre)
No Experience required!! Programs do NOT run on long weekends!!

The Pumpkin Express Event at the Historical Society grounds needs volunteers, October 19, 20, 21 from 4:30-8:30pm. Interested in helping with the preparation for this event?  You can start with a scarecrow building work party this SATURDAY, Sept. 22, 10am to 3pm, or volunteer during the event with supervision of craft tables, train track crossings, pumpkin carvings, haunted story walks, scavenger hunt in the graveyard and face painting!

Fire/Rescue Camp
The Gulf Island Fire/Rescue Camp is 5-1/2 days long and takes place during Spring Break in March.
Find out about about the challenges, tools and rewards of this exciting career. Applications are due Nov. 8 and applicants must be 15-18 years of age.  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for Fire Camp details.

Work Experience 12 Credits
A reminder to students wishing to receive Work Experience credits for this year, that you need to register with Mr. Arsenault before the September 30th deadline!  If you have a job or are volunteering, register soon to receive credit for your hours! This time can also count toward the grade 12 Grad Transition requirement. Please visit the Career Centre to sign up soon!

COMMUNITY NEWS
Army Cadets
If you are 12-18 and are interested in finding out about all of the great things that army cadets do, the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps invites students to join the 3005-11 Service Batallion on THURSDAYS 6:30-9:00 pm at the Lt Gen Ashton Armouries, 724 Vanalman Ave.  For more information, see saanicharmycadets.ca or our Career Centre.

Pendray Farms Corn Maze
On SATURDAY September 29, Pendray Farms Corn Maze is teaming up with Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank: with a donation of a non-perishable food item, 1 child per family will be given free entry to the maze that day. Pendray Farms is at 9537 West Saanich Road, North Saanich.  Information flyers are available in the Claremont office.
