GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Spartan Day – Friday Oct. 5

Our first Spartan Day is NEXT FRIDAY! Please wear RED, bring a "Toonie for Terry" and be ready for a school-wide Terry Fox Walk/Run and a fun lunch time.  Stay tuned for a revised class schedule for that day.

Orange Shirt Day – Friday Sept 28
Claremont recognizes Orange Shirt Day TOMORROW (Friday). This is a nationally commemorated day to remember the survivors of Indian Residential Schools while affirming that all children are valued in our community. Let's show our support for reconciliation and human rights. Wearing orange helps us all to share in this important message. Every Child Matters.

Student Drivers
A reminder to students drivers that if you are parking in our student lot, parking passes and parking forms need to be completed and submitted to the office by TOMORROW (Friday).

Jr Girls Volleyball

Reminder for Junior girls BLUE volleyball players: we practice TODAY after school in the small gym.

Sr Girls Volleyball
All Sr Girls Volleyball players: there is a mandatory meeting TODAY at the start of lunch in room 325.

Sr. Boys Volleyball
Last night the Sr. Boys Volleyball team continued their undefeated streak as they beat Mt. Doug (25-11, 25-08), Reynolds (25-12, 25-18) and Royal Bay (25-19, 25-11) in the second league night. Special thanks goes out to the minor officials (Sr. Girls: Abby, Abigail, Victoria, Keely, Kam, Helena & Leann and Jr. Girl:-Faith  - we sincerely appreciate your volunteer hours).  Also, thanks to the teachers, admin and parents that came out to support the team.

CAREER CENTRE
Work Experience 12 Credits – Deadline is TOMORROW

A reminder to students wishing to receive Work Experience credits for this year, that you need to register with Mr. Arsenault before the September 30th deadline!  If you have a job or are volunteering, register soon to receive credit for your hours! This time can also count toward the grade 12 Grad Transition requirement. Please visit the Career Centre to sign up!

Parents as Informed Partners
Saanich Career Education presents "Parents as Informed Partners" at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney on Thursday, Oct. 4th at 7:00 pm. Learn about various specialty programs, "dual credit", post secondary and trades training while still in high school, hear from a parent & student panel, partner post secondary institutions, and much more! Visit the Career Centre for more information on this great career path information meeting!

The Beach House Restaurant, on Cordova Bay Rd., is looking for dishwashers, line cooks and event prep cooks! Students interested in a culinary career are encouraged to pursue their Red Seal certification under the mentorship of the Beach House chefs!

Highschool Student Greeters are needed for the 2018 General Local and School Board Election on Saturday, October 20, 2018. $100 for a six-hour shift from either 8 am to 2 pm OR 2 pm to 8 pm. Students are required to to attend a one-hour training session prior to working on voting day and you will be compensated an additional $20. Applications are due Friday, September 21; email your application to elections@saanich.ca.

Island Health and Saanich Peninsula Hospital have volunteer opportunities;  this is a great opportunity for students considering a career in health care.

The Pumpkin Express Event at the Historical Society grounds needs volunteers, October 19, 20, 21 from 4:30-8:30pm.  Supervise craft tables, train track crossings, pumpkin carvings, haunted story walks, scavenger hunt in the graveyard and face painting!

Fire/Rescue Camp
The Gulf Island Fire/Rescue Camp is 5-1/2 days long and takes place during Spring Break in March.
Find out about about the challenges, tools and rewards of this exciting career. Applications are due Nov. 8 and applicants must be 15-18 years of age.  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for Fire Camp details.

Loran Scholarship

Grade 12s interested in being nominated for the $100,000 Loran Scholarship, please provide your resume and personal profile to Mr Cannon by the end of this FRIDAY.  You may hand them in to him directly or to the office throughout the week.

Grad 2019 Pinnies
If you wish to order a Grad 2019 Pinnie, order forms are online on the Grad 2019 Page of the Claremont website; there are also some paper copies available in the office.  Pinnies are $35. Deadline to order is October 5th.

Dry Grad
The next Dry Grad meeting is Oct 2nd @ 7pm in the learning commons.  It follows right after the Parent Grad Meeting @ 6pm.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.

Cordova Bay Local Area Plan
If you are under 50 and living in Cordova Bay, you are invited to contribute to the Cordova Bay Local Area Plan Update (guiding, planning and land use decisions for the community over the next 20 to 30 years).  There is an upcoming interactive workshop, seeking constructive input from younger age groups and those raising families. Discuss issues such as: parks, housing, transportation, safety, the Village and more. Please join in to share what is important to you. WEDNESDAY, October 3, 5:30-7:00pm @ the Claremont Learning Commons. Pizza and refreshments provided for everyone.

Pendray Farms Corn Maze
On SATURDAY September 29, Pendray Farms Corn Maze is teaming up with Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank: with a donation of a non-perishable food item, 1 child per family will be given free entry to the maze that day. Pendray Farms is at 9537 West Saanich Road, North Saanich.  Information flyers are available in the Claremont office.
