GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Spartan Wear

Are you interested in buying a piece of Spartan swag? Hoodies, Sweat Pants, T-Shirts and Lanyards!!! Spartan Wear order forms are now available in the Main Office. Return your completed order forms and payment to the Accounting Office. Deadline is next WEDNESDAY Oct. 24th.  Orders should arrive in early November.

ScreamFest
Claremont is hosting the 10th annual ScreamFest Halloweeen event Oct 25/26. It is bigger and better than last year, with new mid-way games and an expanded and improved Haunted Walk.  Tickets will be on sale each day at lunch at the Spartan Store.  $10 per person.
Many students bought their tickets as part of their school fees. Those students can claim their ticket at the Spartan Store, but must present their student card as ID to do so.

Blood Drive
Blood - its in you to give. Make a donation and save 3 lives. For those 17yrs and older, blood donation appointments are available Nov 6, 7 and 8th. See Ms Chapman in room 136 to sign up.

Grade 9 Immunization Forms
Reminder for grade 9 students to please get the immunization forms signed by a parent or guardian and return them to the school office this week.

Numeracy Exam
TODAY is the last day to sign up to write the Nov. 5th Numeracy Exam.  This date is in addition to the normal January and June exam sessions.  If writing in January or June does not work for you, or if you would like an extra opportunity to score well on this exam, please sign up in the office.  Space is limited to 30 students in a morning session, and 30 in an afternoon session.

Photo Retakes - Oct. 25
Photo retake day is next week on THURSDAY October 25 in block 1, if you missed the first photo day, or if you want a new photo taken.  If you want retakes, you must return your complete original package (and I.D. card) to the photographer at the time of retakes. 
Purchasing photos is optional, but all students in all grades need to have school photos taken, for school identification purposes (grade 12’s too - even if you are having grad photos taken).  Order forms are available in the office. There is also an option to order photos on the Lifetouch website; the office also has those order forms.

Bus Passes
There are still many unclaimed bus passes in the office.  Please come pick them up.

Beef Jerky - Fundraiser
The Senior Boys Basketball ‘Travel Team’ will be selling Beef Jerky products at lunch TODAY in the lounge. Come check out some NEW products!  Snack range from $2 - $3.50.

CLUBS
Spirit Squad – Hat Day Today

Welcome to Hat Day!!!  We hope you are enjoying wearing your favourite ball caps, sombreros, fedoras, beanies, bonnets and toques today. We will take a group picture in the student lounge at the start of lunch of anyone who's wearing a hat.

Motivational Day: Youth for Change & Inclusion
Claremont YCI is hosting this FRIDAY’s Motivational Day in the Learning Commons from 9:30am – 3:00pm.   This inspiring day is open to all students.  There will be plenty of speakers and discussions on a variety of topics such as Youth Leadership, Mental Health, Youth Housing, Harm Reduction, Indigenous Activism,  Zero Waste, Free Tibet and more!  Admission is $5.  For more information, please see Ms. Milne or Mme Guthrie-Bedard.

Math Club – Math Contests
Results of the October Math League are posted in the math wing.  Claremont's team score was 24 out of 30. Well done!! 
Also, there is a sign-up sheet for the COMC outside room 133.  If you have already requested to write this contest, you are already on the list, but anyone else is welcome to sign up. The contest is November 8th in blocks 1 and 2 and samples are pinned to the board.

ATHLETICS
Sr Boys Volleyball

The Sr. Boys Volleyball team continued its undefeated (in league) winning streak last night at Oak Bay, defeating St. Andrews, Oak Bay and PCS. Congrats fellas!! Their next big tournament is in Kamloops next weekend.

Vancouver Island Championship School Swim Meet
On SUNDAY, the Vancouver Island Championships for Swimming will be held at Saanich Commonwealth Pool. Claremont has a great team in the running this year, so come out and cheer us on!  Racing starts at 11:00 am.

CAREER CENTRE
University and College Information

New viewbooks are arriving daily in the Career Centre for universities, colleges and institutes from all over BC, Canada and other countries! Stop by to read up on what these institutions have to offer toward your post-secondary plans and goals.

Job Opportunities
Visit the Career Centre to check out job postings for short and long-term job opportunities such as
on-call server at the SHOAL Centre - $16.58 /hour, or weekly yard work & clean-up in Sidney/North Saanich - $15/hour.

Volunteer Opportunity
4 volunteers are needed for the SHOAL Christmas Craft Fair - Saturday, Nov. 17 - from 10:00 – 2:00.  Help out by serving coffee and cookies to patrons during the event plus work at the YEP table wrapping gifts as a fundraiser!

Fire/Rescue Camp
Applications for the March 2019 Fire/Rescue Camp are now being accepted. If you have ever wondered what it's like to run into a building that everyone else is running out of, dreamed of using an extrication tool to cut up a car and access a victim, imagined handling a hose so powerful that it takes two people to hold it, or thought you could dangle off a rope 50 feet in the air.... then consider applying for the Gulf Island Fire/Rescue Camp! This 51/2 day camp takes place during Spring Break and qualifies you to 100 Work Experience hours (4 school credits), as well as a certificate of completion. Deadline to apply is November 8!  Application forms are in the Career Centre; see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre.

University Visit
A representative from the University of British Columbia will be at Claremont on WEDNESDAY, October 31 after school in the Learning Commons.  Find out all you need to know about admissions and programs offered at UBC!

GRAD 2019
Grad Transition

Congratulations to the 21 grade 12s who have already completed their GT and submitted their forms to Mrs. Rhodes! Yay!  Grad Transition is a grad requirement.  Pick up your GT forms from the Career Centre and work on completing them soon while you can arrange for your own interview. Formal interviews will be scheduled in April, with members of the community, for students who wait. Don't delay! Get your GT done today!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
