GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Lest We Forget

TODAY we are dedicating blocks 1 and 2 for our Remembrance Day assemblies, to honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country, and those who continue to serve, in order to preserve our Canadian values and freedoms. Thank you to the men and women of our Canadian military: the soldiers, medics, equipment technicians, pilots, support staff and peacekeepers. This year is an especially notable year, as this is 100th anniversary of the World War 1 armistice.  Lest we forget.

This morning, Poppies are available from the Royal Canadian Legion. Please wear a poppy proudly and give a donation for the Legion Poppy Fund to honour and support our veterans.

Home Room Today
There will be a short Home Room TODAY right after lunch (12:12 - 12:35 (approximately 20 minutes).  Then students will go straight to block 3.  Block 4 will start at the usual time of 1:33.

Lost
A CSI Rowing hoodie (with ‘Lewis’ on the back) was lost in the school yesterday.  If you have found it, please help out your fellow student and bring it to the office or to Mr Peacock.

A Daniel Wellington wrist watch has been lost.  It has a black strap, and a traditional analog white face (with hands). If you have found this watch, please help out your fellow student and bring it to the office.

Learning Commons
In celebration of creative pursuits and unique talents, the Learning Commons theme this month is: Dream, Create, and Inspire.  Stop by and enjoy some colouring projects, contests, and some fun demos later in the month! See your LC staff or the Learning Commons Twitter for more details.

Spirit Squad's next theme day is Pyjama Day NEXT FRIDAY Nov. 16.  You get a free Hot Chocolate at lunch in the lounge if you're wearing PJs.

Encounters With Canada: Time Limited Offer

Encounters With Canada is offering an amazing opportunity for it's upcoming Sports & Fitness week - Nov. 18-24.  Remaining seats are being offered on a first come first served basis; there is a rebate of $75 off the regular cost of the trip to Ottawa. Travel to and from Ottawa is paid for! Your adventure may include wall climbing, martial arts, Kin-Ball, Ultimate Frisbee, fitness boot camp and more!  Participate in a guided tour of the city and a visit to Parliament. Deadline to register is Nov. 15th.  Hurry as time is needed to make travel arrangements. Please visit the Career Centre for registration information.

University Visits – Nov. 13
Please save the date for two university visits at Claremont this TUESDAY, Nov. 13th! 
A representative from Ryerson University will be here at 8:30 a.m. in the Student Lounge.
A representative from McGill University will be here at lunch in the Learning Commons.  Stop on by to find out all about what these two universities have to offer!  Mark your calendar as this is the day right after the long week end!

PSIBC Event – Nov. 15
The Post Secondary Institutions of BC event is happening at Stelly's Secondary School on THURSDAY, November 15th from 6:00-8:00 pm. Students and parents are invited to come meet Post Secondary Institution representatives from all over BC in one place: UNBC, JIBC, FDU, BCIT, SFU, TWU, TRU, Camosun, Quest, CapU, UVic, VIU, CAF-RMC and more! Hope to see you there!

Parents As Career Coaches
COPACS and the Saanich School District proudly invite you to attend a free seminar for parents:  THURSDAY, November 15 @ 6:30 pm at Stelly's Secondary School.  Capilano University instructor, Marion Haythorne, will be leading the workshop helping parents learn how to help their children make sound educational decisions and career choices.

District Hairdressing Program
Any students interested in the dual credit Cosmo/Hairdressing Program, offered by SD#63 in partnership with Vancouver Island University, please see Mr. Arsenault  in the Career Centre to sign up for the Feb. 2019 start!

Soldier For A Day- Work/Study Program
The BC Army Reserve is hosting a Soldier for a Day program on SATURDAY, November 17th.  This program is an introduction to the role of the BC Army Reserve both here in your home community, across Canada and even around the world. It’s also worth 6 1/2 hours of work experience. Don’t wait too long to sign up, as spaces are filling up fast!

For students in grades 10 to 12:  the BC Army Reserve is also hosting a full time SUMMER employment program; this includes leadership training, paid community service, plus up to $8000 of educational reimbursement funding.  See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information on both of these opportunities.

Art Colleges Fair – Nov. 28
Students interested in Art and Design: mark your calendars for the Art Colleges Fair on Wednesday, November 28th at St. Michael's University School, from 6:00-7:30 pm! This art fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about a number of art and design programs in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the Career Centre for a list of the art schools that will be participating.

Volunteer hours can count toward Grad Transition requirements and/or are a necessary requirement for some university program admissions. The Career Centre has information about various volunteer opportunities for students, including the following:

Grad Portraits

Grad portrait proofs are available for pickup in the office. 

Grad Wear
2019 Grad Wear is now on sale!!  Clothing order forms are available at the main office or the accounting office.  Forms and payment are to be returned to the Accounting office – deadline is Friday Nov. 16.

Grad Transition
Reminder to grads that GT is a graduation requirement.  Pick up your forms from the Career Centre and interview with your favourite teacher!
