GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parents – After School Pick-ups

Reminder to parents, when you are picking up students at the end of the day to please be mindful of the small cul-de-sacs close by the school, and to not block driveways.  Presently, the neighbours on Arsenault Place are experiencing a large volume of cars congesting their street after school.

Writing Awards from BC Legion
Congratulations to Writing 12 students Alex BRADLEY, Makenna MORAN, Rachel PERESSINI, and Kiara WHITE who all won cash prizes for their entries to the BC Legion Literary and Poster Contest.  Alex, Makenna, and Rachel's pieces have all moved on to the Provincial level for further judging!  Well done!

Seeking Nominations – Deadline Today
We are taking nominations for Claremont’s Athletics Wall of Fame, which will be updated at the end of January of 2019.  Three categories exist: Player, Coach or Builder.  If you have a name that you feel should be considered, please nominate him or her via email to Darren Reisig at dreisig@saanichschools.ca. Please include: name, achievements, grad year, and dates/details to consider. Deadline to nominate is TODAY @ 4:00 p.m.  Please see the Claremont Website for details.

Doors Open to Technology: Field Trip Feb. 5
DOT - Doors Open to Technology
- has planned an all day event for students interested in technology-based careers, on February 5th.  School bus transportation and lunch will be provided. Visit two tech firms downtown and hear speakers from Microsoft, BCHydro and League of Innovators.  Please visit the Career Centre for field-trip sign-up and permission information.

Fairmont Empress Hiring Fair – Jan. 24
The Fairmont Empress Hotel is holding a hiring fair at the hotel on Thursday, January 24th,  9 am - 12 pm. There are many temporary summer positions and part-time permanent entry level positions available for interested students. Choose from roles in the housekeeping, banquets and stewarding areas. Competitive wages. Be prepared with your resume for an on the spot interview!  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Animation Work Experience Opportunity
Animal Logic, a world leader in Feature Animation that creates such films as The Lego Movie 2, Peter Rabbit and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, is going to be running a second ‘work experience week’ for grade 11 students from BC at their Studio in downtown Vancouver!  Successful applicants will spend the week learning and applying a variety of computer animation related skills. Students achieve all of their 30 hours work experience, in one fun and exciting week!  This event will be taking place March 18-22 (during Spring Break). Women In Trades & Technology – Feb. 20
Camosun College will be hosting the annual Women In Trades & Technology event on Wednesday, February 20st. Students will have the opportunity to explore and participate in activities in trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Automotive Service Technician, Sheet Metal/Metal Fabrication, plus four technology areas including Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. This is a whole day event open to a limited number of female students from SD63, and lunch will be provided. Interested students please sign up in the Career Centre.

Volunteer Opportunity
UVic’s Tsukino-Con Convention is looking for volunteers to help with this year's anime, games and Japanese culture convention, February 22-24. Volunteers must be a minimum 14 years of age. Tsukino-Con is a non-profit organization that supports a variety of charities including Child's Play, the BC SPCA, as well as the Mustard Seed and UVic Food Bank.  Please visit the Career Centre for more information.

GRAD 2019
Yearbook: Grad Write-Ups

Grads, please make sure you submit your grad write-up for the yearbook. The submission needs to be done online with your GOOGLE account on the Grad Page. All instructions and the link are on the Grad Page and the deadline is January 31st.

Reminder to Grads to get your Grad Transition forms and interview completed while you still have time to choose your own person to interview you!  GT forms are available from the Career Centre.

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
