Studio 63 Opening for Free Hair Appointments
Did you know that School District #63 has its own Hairstylist training program?  Studio 63 is celebrating its 10th year,  offering Hairdressing training in partnership with Vancouver Island University.  Appointments can be made at the studio Mondays-Wednesdays from 12:30 to 4:00 pm or Thursdays from 11:30 to 6:00pm for a free haircut, style or up-do!  To book and appointment, call 250 652-5381 and support our own SD#63 Hairdressing program (located at the Saanichton Learning Centre, 1649 Mt Newton X Rd).

All Jr Girls Soccer players: there is a meeting TODAY at the start of lunch in room 303.  You need to be dismissed at 2:30 for your game vs Stelly’s.

Rugby – Scrum Fest Starts Today
Claremont is hosting the 11th annual Scrum Fest this week Thursday April 11- Saturday April 13.  This is the largest exhibition high school rugby festival in Western Canada, with 26 teams this year. In total, there will be roughly 1100 people (players, coaches, parents, referees, etc) who will be visiting our school this week. We will have our concession tent up and running with burgers, chips, drinks, etc (CASH ONLY) and the cafeteria will only have limited service during the event.
Opening Ceremonies: TODAY @ 11:15am, followed by our feature game (Claremont Sr Boys vs Eastdale, Ontario).  Games schedule will be posted around the school and on the Claremont website, including our Sr Boys, Jr Boys and Girls teams.  We hope to see lots of Spartans in the bleachers to watch some great rugby!

Free Training – Face Painting

Introduction to Face Painting – Saturday May 4, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Shoal Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive, Sidney.  This is a fun hands on workshop using You tube and imagination!  A great skill to have for volunteering or working at fairs, festivals or farm markets! More info in the Career Centre.

Volunteer Opportunity
The Brentwood Bay Festival is coming up on Saturday June 1st and they will be looking for 8 to 10 volunteers to face paint and help young children with a craft or two. Visit the Career Centre for more info.

Peninsula Country Market at Stellys Fair Grounds - Saturdays - June 1, 2019 – October 13.  If you like to be outdoors, the sound of live music, fresh fruit & veggies this is a wonderful summer job. Duties will be to help set up and tear down tables and tents. This job requires a strong back and ability to lift 25lbs. 7:00am – 1:30pm – 6.5 hours @ $13.00/Hr.

Kiwanis Concession summer jobs.  Help is needed at the Kiwanis concessions this summer. The Kiwanis club raises funds by providing snacks during games throughout the spring and fall. They will be at two locations:
1) Rotary Park on Canora Road on Sundays April 14th to July 14th
2) Panorama Rec weekends August starting August 25th.
In between, they will also have opportunities to work at tournaments and events. Shifts are flexible and can be 4 to 8 hours long. $13.00/hour. 

Multiple short- term outside jobs. From yard and garden help to helping move boxes in preparation for sale of home. Varying locations in Sidney and Broadmead areas.

Child minding. Local residents are looking for a responsible student to watch over two boys aged 7 and 10 after school, Monday to Friday 3-5 pm. $15/hour. Needed from May 13th to June 3rd.

Thrifty Foods @ Broadmead is nearing completion of their renovations and is hiring in all departments, including a new Smoothie Bar!  Competitive wages with full or part time and summer positions available! Visit the Career Centre for application information.

Camp Ignite – Summer 2019
Camp Ignite is a Youth Fire Fighter Mentorship Program for grade 11 & 12 girls, ages 16-18.  It is a   4-day camp that educates and inspires young women about careers in firefighting. This camp offers girls an introduction to the world of firefighting as well as learning about fitness, nutrition, health and teamwork. This year's camp will run from August 8-11, 2019.  Saanich Fire is looking to sponsor one grade 11 or 12 girl to attend. Application deadline is June 1. UVic Medical Program Info – May 7
Are you interested in becoming a doctor? Do you know you can earn your MD at UVic? The Island Medical Program delivers the UBC MD Undergraduate Program in partnership with the University of Victoria and Island Health. Learn more about the MD admissions process at the upcoming high school information session on Tuesday, May 7, from 6:30-8:00 pm, in the UVic Medical Sciences Building, room 105.

Saanich Summer Internship Program
Saanich Parks and Recreation is offering a Summer Internship Program designed for youth 16-18 years to gain valuable work experience!  Mentored part-time and full-time placements are available in summer camps and community settings throughout Saanich. Interns receive up to $500 for completing the program!  Application deadline is May 15. Apply via email to Alana.Goddard@saanich.ca explaining why you want to be a summer intern. Good luck!

GRAD 2019
Mandatory Grad Assembly – April 16

All grade 12's are required to attend a grad assembly on TUESDAY April 16 in block 1.  (Note date change: this assembly was previously scheduled for April 9). This assembly will provide all details about graduation: how to know if you are eligible to cross the stage, criteria for completion of courses at SIDES or ILC, grad ceremony, grad dinner/dance, All Nite Dry Grad, how to get TICKETS (and how many tickets), deadlines, plus you will be provided with all of the necessary paperwork. If you have a spare or if you are not usually at Claremont for block 1, it is essential that you make arrangements to attend this important assembly.

Scholarship
Beacon Community Services is a leader in the community whose mission is to help people and improve lives.  BCS offers up to 4 scholarships of $1500 to graduating Grade 12 students who show dedication to community service/volunteerism.  Deadline to apply for this scholarship is May 1.  See Ms Tong or visit the Career Centre for more information and application details.

Planning to grad in June?  This is a reminder to get your GT interview done and paperwork submitted to the Career Centre asap! April 12 is the cut-off for submissions before GT interviews are scheduled for you later this month! Visit the Career Centre if you have any questions!
