GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Appropriate Clothing
Reminder that with the warm weather upon us, that Claremont School is a place of business and we ask that students wear appropriate clothing.  Ask yourself if your clothing choice is something that you would wear to your job?  If the answer is ‘no’ then it is probably not appropriate for school either.
The following is the Dress Code as listed in Claremont’s Code of Conduct:  “School is a place of business. Students and their parents are expected to support a learning environment where attire is appropriate. Articles of clothing that promote alcohol, drugs, inappropriate language or racism, or that are too revealing are not permitted. Students wearing such clothing will be asked to go home and change if they do not have suitable clothing at school.”

Claremont Year-Long Drama – Opens Tomorrow Night
Claremont's Year-Long Drama program presents the play, “Daisy Pulls It Off”.  It is a play about life in a 1920s English Boarding School. Part-comedy, part-drama; the play is appropriate for all ages.  Nightly @ 7:30pm, May 15-17 and May 22-25.  All tickets are $10 at the door.

Wands for Wildlife – PEP 11 Leadership Project
Do you have old, used mascara wands? Instead of throwing them out, some students at Claremont have organized a two-week campaign in partnership with the Appalachian Wildlife Refuge’s initiative, “Wands for Wildlife”, where donated wands are used to help rehabilitate rescued animals, including removing fly eggs, larvae, and ticks from their fur or feathers. There is a bin located outside the front office where you can put your old mascara tubes, which not only prevents the plastic from entering our landfills, but can help save countless wild lives!  Campaign is on until Wednesday May 22.

Trades Exploration 2020
If you are wondering about, or considering, a career in the trades, Claremont offers the Trades Exploration program, introducing students to the fields of carpentry, welding, electrical and plumbing. The semester 2 TEX Program can help you discover the trade that suits you and your talents best, and leads into post secondary trades training. There are still seats available! Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre to register.

Last Day to Drop Classes – May 24
The last day to drop classes for this semester so that they don’t show up on your transcript is FRIDAY May 24.

Measles Catch-up for Students in Grades 10 to 12
Grade 10,11 & 12 students who are unimmunized or under immunized for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) should have brought home consent packages last week. Please discuss the information in the consent package and involve your child in the decision to provide consent to immunization. The consent forms are due back by THIS THURSDAY May 16. Immunizations will be provided at Claremont school on TUESDAY May 28, 2019.

Although a child may be immunized with the consent of a parent/guardian or representative, a student in grade 9 or older can make an informed decision regarding immunization regardless of parental consent or refusal. This is referred to as “mature minor consent.”

Students who are up to date for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) will receive a record of immunization. Please keep this record to provide to your child’s school this fall.  First Nations children who receive health services in their communities, may be able to access immunization records and services at their Community Health Centers.

Track
For all members of the track team, including relay teams: there is a very important track meeting TODAY at lunch in the small gym.

Rowing
This past weekend, the Claremont Rowing team was up on Shawnigan Lake for another regatta and they all performed very well. We had 43 crews racing; 14 of them made it to the podium, and many others qualified into the "A Final" (top 6 result)!  Here is a list of the crews and athletes who were on the podium this weekend:

CAREER CENTRE
Broadcasting College
Be on the air in less than a year! Have you considered a career in broadcasting on radio or television? Western Academy Broadcasting College offers an accelerated program of 2 years' worth of training in one year! Learn through one-on-one tutoring and hands-on experience in real Radio and Television studios.  WABC works with students until they get hired.  Get more information at wabcwesternacademy.com or visit the Career Centre.

TEAC 105 - Explorations in Technology
Do you want to explore Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science?  TEAC 105 explores these four technologies through hands-on activities and project-based learning. This dual-credit course is offered in partnership with Camosun College and runs on Friday afternoons at Camosun Interurban Campus from 3- 6 pm, from September to February. Camp Ignite for Girls
Reminder that the application deadline for Camp Ignite is June 1st.  This Youth Fire Fighter Mentorship Program for grade 11 & 12 girls is a four-day camp (August 8-11) that offers girls an introduction to the world of firefighting as well as learning about fitness, nutrition, health and teamwork.  More information and application forms available from the Career Centre.

There are multiple outside lawn/garden job opportunities! Some are short-term, some with long-term /regular potential. Good wages.
Central Saanich Little League Concession needs a front-end server/cashier to work Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs 5pm-9pm, plus longer shift Saturdays and Sundays. $13.85 /hour. 

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are still needed to help out at the Youth Employment Station at the Brentwood Festival on Saturday June 1st.  Help at this fun family event with children’s activities such as face painting and crafts. 4 students are needed for each shift of 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, and 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, or you can stay the whole day!

Brentwood Bay Elementary needs volunteer help at their annual spring fundraiser! Help with games, inflatables, and face painting. There may also be a need to dress up as a super hero or princess and mingle with the families.

GRAD 2019
Grad Rehearsal – May 21
Reminder to grade 12’s that there is a mandatory grad rehearsal at the UVic auditorium next week on TUESDAY May 21.  All graduating students must meet in the Ridge Theatre at Claremont before 9:00 a.m. to prepare for bussing. Students will miss their morning classes and return by 12:10 pm. Grads are not permitted to drive their own vehicles to UVic.

Walk For Muscular Dystrophy – May 26
The Walk for Muscular Dystrophy is coming up on Sunday, May 26th  (starts at 1pm at Beckwith Park).  Dacian Filipescu is a grade 9 student here at Claremont with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is this year's ambassador for the walk.  Dacian lost a friend to DMD last year and is dedicating his fundraising efforts to him this year. We have formed a Claremont Team for this year's walk and are hoping to get a good turnout from the Claremont community (staff and students) to show our support for Dacian and the cause. Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
