GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Canadian Universities Event – Today

Claremont has the pleasure of hosting this Fall's Canadian Universities Event (CUE) for School District 63 TODAY from 1:00 to 3:30 pm!  This is an opportunity to meet 50 university and college representatives all in one place!  Grade 11 and 12 classes have been scheduled to attend at various times during the afternoon, and we will also be hosting students from Stelly’s and Parkland. 


S.A.T. Preparation Course – Register by Oct. 16

Students planning to attend university in the U.S.A. are required to write an SAT exam. St. Michael's University School is pleased to host an SAT preparation course running from Oct. 19 to Dec. 5, in preparation for the Dec. 7th, 2019 SAT exam. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 16. Visit the Career Centre for more SAT prep course and enrolment info.


Peer Tutors

If you are a senior student interested in being a Peer Tutor, please see Ms. Giese in the counselling area to sign up.  All academic subjects are needed, but we already have requests for Peer Tutors in the areas of Science, Math and English.


School Photos and I.D. Cards

If you still need to pick up your school photos and I.D. cards, they are all available in the office – all grades.


CLUBS

Trivia Club

Trivia Club starts on WEDNESDAY October 2 at lunch in room 322 (Ms. Stover's room) - see you there!


ATHLETICS

Sr Boys Volleyball

The Sr. Boys Volleyball Team competed in a very competitive 40 team tournament at UBC this past weekend. The boys played well, but this was an exhausting tournament, with many 3 set matches and we were short on numbers, ending up in 9th place.

Both the Sr. & Jr. Boys Volleyball teams will be away this Friday and Saturday competing in Nanaimo at the VIU tournament. Go Spartans!


Girls Volleyball

Both the Senior and Junior programs had a very successful weekend, winning both of their respective tournaments (both undefeated) and both teams featuring a number of Tournament Team All-Stars including:

Women in Engineering and Computer Science – Oct 2

UVic is hosting a free event for grade 11 and 12 girls to offer the chance to learn more about engineering TOMORROW (Wednesday) Oct. 2.  The event includes hands-on team activities, stories from students and professionals in engineering, and a pizza dinner.  WEDNESDAY Oct. 2, 4:30 – 8:30 pm, UVic’s Engineering/Computer Science Bldg, Room 660.  See a counsellor for registration information.


UVic School of Health Information Science Open House – Oct 16

The School of Health Information Sciences is hosting its Fall Open House on Wednesday, October 16th, 4:30-6:00pm at UVic’s Cornett Building room A125. Students interested in the life sciences, medicine and/or information technology would be especially interested in these programs.  Students are invited to learn more about this exciting field by talking with faculty and students. Join us for pizza while learning about the rapidly expanding field of information technology in health care!

Food Safe Level 1 - Friday Oct. 25Th, 8:30 am –4:30 pm @ SHOAL Centre in Sidney, 10030 Resthaven Drive.  Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated.

Alert First Aid With CPR "C" & AED - Saturday, November 22, 2019 -8:30 am to 4:00 pm @ SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive. Cost is $50.00 -Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. This fun, interactive, and comprehensive 8-hour course trains people how to react & improvise during life threatening emergencies. This course meets the Adult & Child Licensing Guidelines.


GRAD 2020

Grad Portraits

Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time, October 7-18. To book your appointment, please go to the Grad Portrait website: schedule.prestigeportraits.ca   Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook). COMMUNITY NEWS

Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. 

Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.

-get prescriptions

-speak with a counsellor

-access to STI and pregnancy testing

-access to birth control
