GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Camosun Duel Credit Courses
If you have signed up for any Dual Credit course through Camosun College for second semester (Business, Criminolgy Psychology, or AP Bio), please attend a registration meeting THIS THURSDAY at the start of lunch in computer lab 225. See Ms. Giese or Mr. Pama if you have questions.
Booking Counselling Appointments
If students need to book an appointment to see a school counsellor (Mr. Pama or Ms. Giese), please see Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (new location of the Career Centre is in the counselling hallway). Mrs. Watson is available 9:00-2:00 daily.
Peer Tutors
If you are a senior student interested in being a Peer Tutor, please see Ms. Giese in the counselling area to sign up. All academic subjects are needed, but we already have requests for Peer Tutors in the areas of Science, Math and English.
After School Academic Support
Help from Education Assistants is available on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS for one hour after school in room 235 (computer lab) in the areas of English, Socials, Math and Science. All students welcome.
Citizen & Service Awards
A number of Citizen & Service Awards were not picked up by students at the end of June. A list of recipient names is posted outside of the office and the Learning Commons. If your name is on the list, please come to the office to pick up your award.
School Photos and I.D. Cards
If you still need to pick up your school photos and I.D. cards, they are all available in the office – all grades.
CLUBS
VEX Robotics Club
There is a mandatory club meeting on WEDNESDAY at lunch in room 220 for all members.
CREW Club
Come join the Claremont CREW (Claremont Reduction of Environmental Waste) Club this FRIDAY at lunch in room 264 (the IGS classroom). Bring your lunch and join us in having a positive impact on our school and our planet!

Gap Year/Volunteer Opportunities
Have you ever considered taking a Gap year after grade 12? The Lattitude Global Volunteering Team will be at Claremont THIS WEDNESDAY October 9th after school in the Learning Commons (change of location) ...come check it out!!
Canadian Coast Guard
Students interested in careers in the Coast Guard: sometime during the week of Nov. 12-15, Claremont will be hosting a Coast Guard Recruitment Officer to present and discuss opportunities for students to join the Canadian Coast Guard. If you are interested in attending this presentation, please sign up at the Career Centre.

A part-time dishwasher/cashier is needed at Adrienne’s Tea Garden at Mattick’s Farm.
Part-time yard work help is needed by a local senior citizen. $15 per hour.
Elections Canada still has a few part-time jobs for poll workers during the Federal Election, for students 16 years old and older, from Oct 11-14, and on Oct 21. Training is available, but opportunities are becoming limited. Go to elections.ca for more information.

Food Safe Level 1 - Friday Oct. 25Th, 8:30 am –4:30 pm @ SHOAL Centre in Sidney, 10030 Resthaven Drive. Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated.
Alert First Aid With CPR "C" & AED - Saturday, November 22, 2019 -8:30 am to 4:00 pm @ SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive. Cost is $50.00 -Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted. This fun, interactive, and comprehensive 8-hour course trains people how to react & improvise during life threatening emergencies. This course meets the Adult & Child Licensing Guidelines.
GRAD 2020
Grad Portraits
The grad portrait appointments have started. Lifetouch has their portable photo studio at Claremont for a limited time only, now until October 18. To book your appointment, please go to the Grad Portrait website: schedule.prestigeportraits.ca Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook). Information posters are posted around the school. More details are on the Claremont Grad Page.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Peninsula Youth Clinic
For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand.
Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
