GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lost

A set of white iPods in their case were lost at the end of October.  If you have come across them, please help out your fellow student and return them to the office.


Found

A watch was found in an apron in the foods room yesterday.  Please come to the office to claim it.

A girl’s ring was found in the change room yesterday.  Please come to the office to claim it.


PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts

Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts!  Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office.  Thank you!


Important Dates

Student Parking – Registration Required

Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.  


CLUBS

Math Club

There are two math contests coming up, and the sign-up sheets are outside room 133:

1. The registration deadline for the AMC is NEXT MONDAY, so please sign up this week if you are interested.

2. There is also a sheet for any grade 9s and 10s who are interested in the Math Challengers team competition at Camosun in February.


Science Club

There will be a short Science Club meeting on THURSDAY at lunch in room 203.


ATHLETICS

Sr Girls ‘B’ Basketball

All Sr Girls ‘B’ Basketball players: there is a meeting TODAY at lunch in the small gym.


Girls' Lacrosse Team

Girls’ lacrosse team: we have a meeting TODAY at the beginning of lunch in room 276, for those playing on Friday and for those new to the class that can help out with the concession at the games on Friday at UVic.

We also have a practice WEDNESDAY (possibly at UVic) under the lights 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.  School bus to get there and back if needed.


CAREER CENTRE

UVic’s HighTechU Day - Dec 1

UVic is hosting the second annual HighTechU UX (Youth Experience) Day!  This event is open to high-school students, parents, and teachers, to learn more about HighTechU by meeting people from the program, Q&A sessions, and Design Thinking Workshops.  You can simply arrive on the day, but organizers would appreciate if you were able to register through our eventbrite page.  To Register:

Part-time Job

Arbutus Grove Nursery is looking for 5 students right now that would be available to work Mondays and Fridays from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. They would be helping package trees for shipment.  Starting wage has been increased to $14.60 an hour.  Please contact the Career Centre for more information.  


University Visit – Nov 28

A representative from McGill University will be visiting Claremont THIS THURSDAY Nov 28 at lunch in the Student Lounge (please note the change of location).  Come hear all about McGill University’s  programs and admission process!


University Visit – Nov 29

A representative from UVic’s Gustavson School of Business will be visiting Claremont THIS FRIDAY Nov 29 at lunch in our Learning Commons.  Come and find out about their Business Program, and all about their admissions processes!


Parent Night @ UVic – Nov 28

Parent Night is for the parents! Come to hear information about admission requirements for our programs, scholarships, and upcoming application deadlines, plus some advice on helping your student transition successfully to life in university. For questions, contact the Vancouver Island Student Recruitment Officer, Stephanie Parker, at stephanieparker@uvic.ca.  Free parking is provided for all attendees (register to receive instructions).  THURSDAY, November 28, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Bob Wright Centre, UVic.

Grad Assembly – Today

There is an important grad assembly TODAY in the last half hour of block 2 in the theatre.


Grad Photos

The grad photo proof packages will be handed out TODAY at lunch time in the student lounge (following the grad assembly).


Winter Gala – Dec 4

Attention all grads. The Winter Gala will be on Wednesday December 4th from 7-10pm. Tickets are $25 each and will be sold in the Student Lounge each day this week during lunch. The deadline to buy a ticket is this Friday Nov 29.


Grad Clothing

Grad clothing will also be on sale in the Student Lounge each day this week during lunch.  The deadline to order clothing is this Friday Nov 29.

Parents As Education And Career Coaches – Jan 30

Are you the parent of a high school student? Would you like to help them with their post-secondary choices? This is an interactive workshop designed to give you the skills and confidence you need.  Educational Planner is presenting "Parents as Education and Career Coaches" on THURSDAY January 30th at Stelly's Secondary School, at 6:30 pm. Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. 

Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.

-access to STI and pregnancy testing

-access to birth control
