GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Winter Cafe – Tonight

Come enjoy some beautiful music TONIGHT as our Claremont music students celebrate winter with their annual Winter Music Cafe. There will be a wonderful range of small groups, plus our jazz band, performing both vocal and instrumental pieces. Wednesday @ 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons. Admission is by donation.


Lost

A men’s pullover, RW&Co dark blue/grey with brown trim, was left behind at the basketball game on Monday. If you have found it, please help out your fellow student and bring it to the office.


Lost & Found Table

A Lost & Found table has been set up in the horseshoe hallway, with lots of winter jackets, sweaters, shoes, and random items. Please check it out to see if anything belongs to you. At the end of this week, any leftover items will be donated to a charity organization.


Free Royals Hockey Game Tickets!

Vouchers for free Royals tickets are available at the Claremont office. Maximum 4 per student. Fine print: students must be 14 years and under, with a paying Adult. Game dates: Friday Dec 27 or Saturday Dec 28.

This FRIDAY Dec 20th marks our final day of classes before the winter break. This is the revised class schedule:

PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts

Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts! Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office. Thank you!


Student Parking – Registration Required

Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.


Photo Retakes are Here

If you had photo retakes taken, they are available for pickup in the office. New student I.D. cards too.


Bus Passes are Here

If you are registered to ride the school bus, the bus passes have finally arrived. Please come to the office to pick yours up. The bus drivers will start asking to see them soon.

Student Council has planned some fun activities for each day this week to help us gear up for the holidays. All activities are at lunch time and everyone is welcome to join in.

The Jr Boys ‘B’ Basketball team has a practice TODAY at 5:30 pm in the Small Gym.


CAREER CENTRE

HighTechU Computer/Software Engineering Workshops

HighTechU Skills Academy has great workshops coming up next year... the application deadline is December 31! Skills Academy sessions are delivered over 7-weekends in the winter, spring and summer terms on-campus at UVic, Academy students gain practical experience in teams while building professional skills that are critical for future education and career pathways.

Software Engineering: Feb. 1 - March 14 (Saturdays) 10 am – 4 pm
Software Engineering: March 28 - May 16 (Saturdays) 10 am – 4 pm
Computer Engineering: July 6 – July 17 (Mon-Fri) 10 am – 4 pm

Fire/Rescue Cadet Camp - Applications by Dec 18!

Reminder to sign up for the JDF Fire/Rescue Cadet Camp by December 18! Camp runs March 16 – 21, 2020. For information & applications, please visit the Career Centre. Upon completion, students qualify for 100 Work Experience hours, equivalent to 4 school credits.


Explorations in Technology

Registration is ongoing for TEAC 105 (Engineering Sampler-Civil, Mechanical, Electronics and Computer), taking place at Camosun through the South Island Partnership. There are still spots for Feb 2020. Talk to Jen Loukes in the Career Centre soon, if you're interested!

Grade 12 Students! Are you working on your Grad Transitions yet? Come to the Career Centre for your sheets, and get your interview, DPA, and 30 hours of WEX or Volunteering done sooner than later... Why wait!


Grad Photos

First time bookings only: The online bookings for grad photos is now open for two days only: Monday, January 20th & Tuesday, January 21st

Retakes: If you need to book retakes, those appointments will be done at the Lifetouch Studio. Please contact Lifetouch to book an appointment by calling 250-744-4100.

Broadmead and Cordova Bay: BC Transit Planning

Phase One open houses occurred last fall and stakeholder engagement occurred in the spring. BC Transit has taken peoples’ feedback and developed some potential route modifications as well as brand new routes within the plan area.

In the new year, BC Transit plans to bring these potential route changes forward for public review. See below for details:

Monday Jan. 20, 3:30 -6:30 pm @ Lochside Elementary, 1145 Royal Oak Dr.

Wednesday Jan. 22, 2:00 – 5:00 pm @ Cordova Bay United Church, 813 Claremont Ave.

Thursday Jan. 23, 4:30 -7:30 pm @ Cordova Bay 55+ Association, 5238 Cordova Bay Rd.


There will be an accompanying survey available online as well through the BC Transit website. More details on the survey will be made available closer to the date.


Parents As Education And Career Coaches – Jan 30

Are you the parent of a high school student? Would you like to help them with their post-secondary choices? This is an interactive workshop designed to give you the skills and confidence you need. Educational Planner is presenting "Parents as Education and Career Coaches" on THURSDAY January 30th, 6:30 pm, at Stelly's Secondary School. There is no registration and parents can just come! Peninsula Youth Clinic
For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
