Deadline
to Drop Semester 1 Classes – Jan
10
The course drop deadline is THIS FRIDAY January 10th. If a student drops a semester 1 class before this date, the course will not end up on the report card or transcript. Drop forms can be picked up at the Career Centre. Please return the completed forms with both a parent and teacher signature.
AP Chemistry
All students registered for AP Chemistry must attend a brief meeting THIS FRIDAY at the start of lunch in room 206; Mr. Ewan will be providing directions for Monday afternoon's first UVic Lab.
School Bus Passes
Reminder that if you are registered to ride the school bus to please pick up your bus pass in the school office. The drivers will be asking to see them!
Student Parking – Registration Required
Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.
PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts
Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts! Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office. Thank you!

Key Club – Tree Chipping Fundraiser
The Key Club is collecting trees for chipping this weekend. The Key Club will be in the student parking lot on SATURDAY January 11 (10-4) and SUNDAY January 12 (10-2) to take your trees by donation. All proceeds will go to the club’s charities and programs they support.

Senior Boys "A" Basketball Tournament
Claremont is hosting 12 teams in our annual Senior Boys "A" Basketball Tournament TODAY – SATURDAY. For those interested, our Spartans boys play TODAY at 1pm (during block 3), on FRIDAY at 1:30pm, (during block 4), and on SATURDAY at 4:30pm. If students or staff are available, come on by to support our team! The games should be close and very competitive. There will be a concession lined up as well.

Night – Jan 14
Universities and Colleges of BC will visit Parkland Secondary on TUESDAY, January 14, 6:30-8:30 pm to share information about their programs. This event is open to all high school students in the Saanich School District, so go check out the programs offered at the most popular BC schools!
Canadian Coast Guard College to Visit Claremont – Jan 15
A rep from the Canadian Coast Guard College will be at Claremont on WEDNESDAY, January 15 at lunch time in computer lab 225. Find out how to receive post secondary education in Marine Engineering or Marine Navigation. High school students can apply to the Officer Training Program in their grade 12 year. This is an excellent opportunity for tuition-free education!
UVic to Visit Claremont - Jan 16
All students wondering about UVic admissions and programs, come to the Learning Commons NEXT THURSDAY, January 16 at lunch time. A UVic representative will be available to talk to you and answer any questions.
Women in Trades Exploration Day - Feb 26
Camosun College is hosting a ‘Women in Trades Exploration Day’. This fun, hands-on day introduces students to trades in electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, and automotive... as well as tech fields like civil & mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science. Sign up now in the Career Centre to spend a day exploring trades and tech opportunities. The event is on WEDNESDAY Feb 26, 9:30-2:00 @ Camosun College Interurban Campus.
Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre Field Trip: Feb. 28 - March 2
If you are age 16-18 and you're keen on marine biology or a general science career, consider signing up for the Bamfield Marine Sciences Field Trip, which runs Friday Feb. 28 – Monday March 2. The actual cost is about $600 per student (3 nights, food, accommodation, 2 boat trips, & program costs), but some sponsorships are in the works that may reduce the cost to $300 per student. If the cost is prohibitive, please let Rhiannon know as we want all interested to have the opportunity to join us on this trip. Note: the days are VERY busy, and students will be engaged from 7 am until 9-10 pm (with time for meals, of course!)

Volunteer Opportunity
Saanich Peninsula Hospital is hoping to place 10 youth as Extended Care Unit Meal Time Hosts, via their weekend volunteer program. This is a great opportunity for youth interested in pursuing a career in health care and who are passionate about supporting senior citizens. Application deadline is January 20th. Transit Planning
Phase One open houses occurred last fall and stakeholder engagement occurred in the spring. BC Transit has taken peoples’ feedback and developed some potential route modifications as well as brand new routes within the plan area.
In the new year, BC Transit plans to bring these potential route changes forward for public review. See below for details:

Are you the parent of a high school student? Would you like to help them with their post-secondary choices? This is an interactive workshop designed to give you the skills and confidence you need. Youth Clinic
For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
