GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Claremont Musical Theatre – The Little Mermaid

Claremont presents Disney's "The Little Mermaid" this February/March. Come 'under the sea' with us as over 75 students in the cast, crew and orchestra re-create the magic of one of Disney's favourite musicals. Shows are: Feb 27-29 & March 5-7 @ 7pm, also Saturday matinees on Feb 29 & March 7 at 1:00 pm.

Early Bird special for the month of January: $13 for all tickets. As of Feb 1, the regular price of tickets will be: adults $16, and children/students/seniors $14. Group price available for $13 each (for a group of 8 or more). Please call 250-658-6672 to reserve/buy your tickets.


Volunteer in the Spartan Store

Receive Work Experience credit by volunteering in food service in the Spartan Store. Time commitment is three days a week at lunch – semester two. Must be hard-working, and enjoy the culinary arts! Go to the Career Centre for more information.


School Bus Passes

Reminder that if you are registered to ride the school bus to please pick up your bus pass in the school office. The drivers will be asking to see them!


Student Parking – Registration Required

Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.


PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts

Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts! Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office. Thank you!


CLUBS

Math Club

There are two math contests coming up in February. The AMC will be NEXT WEDNESDAY and there are some spots still available. The Pascal, Cayley and Fermat are the easiest contests to try if you've never tried one. Sign up outside room 133, or ask Mr Skanks about them in room 130.


ATHLETICS

Spirit Night – Feb 4

Get set for the past-paced action of our Sr Girls and Sr Boys Basketball teams as they both take on the Belmont Bulldogs, on TUESDAY Feb 4 in the big gym. Sr Girls play @ 5:45pm, and the Sr Boys play @ 7:30 pm. There will be a special ceremony between the games. Let’s fill the bleachers with RED and support our teams!! Go Spartans!


CAREER CENTRE

Explore UVic – This Saturday Feb 1

Join the fun with other prospective students, by attending Explore UVic! The event is THIS SATURDAY, February 1st, 10am-4:30, and is open to Grade 10-12 students and their families... There will be mock lectures, campus tours, faculty-specific presentations, and student panels. For more details and online registration, please visit:

McGill University Summer Academy 2020

Students in grades 10 and 11 from across the world will have the opportunity to participate in classes, workshops, and social activities, introducing them to university life at McGill University and Montréal - all while being hosted in a McGill Residence! Volunteer Opportunities

The 2020 Tsukino-Con Anime Convention, held February 21-23 at UVic, needs volunteers .

Sports For Kids is starting up and need volunteers. Please see Mr Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information.


Saanich Peninsula Hospital is hoping to place 10 youth as Extended Care Unit Meal Time Hosts, via their weekend volunteer program. This is a great opportunity for youth interested in pursuing a career in health care and who are passionate about supporting senior citizens. Application deadline is January 20th. Explorations in Technology

Registration is ongoing for TEAC 105 (Engineering Sampler-Civil, Mechanical, Electronics and Computer), taking place at Camosun through the South Island Partnership. There are still spots for Feb 2020. Talk to Ms. Loukes in the Career Centre soon, if you're interested!


RCMP Training in Saskatchewan5 days in Spring Break

The RCMP is inviting 32 grade 12 students from across Canada to the Youth Engagement Week held at the Police Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan. The program will take place from March 23 to 27. Costs for travel, accommodations and meals will be covered by the RCMP. This is a great opportunity for students, who are interested in a career in law enforcement, to experience a week of what training in the RCMP looks like! Go to the Career Centre to for the application – Deadline to apply is TOMORROW January 31.


Women in Trades Exploration Day - Feb 26

Camosun College is hosting a ‘Women in Trades Exploration Day’. This fun, hands-on day introduces students to trades in electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, and automotive... as well as tech fields like civil & mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science. Sign up now in the Career Centre to spend a day exploring trades and tech opportunities. The event is on WEDNESDAY Feb 26, 9:30-2:00 @ Camosun College Interurban Campus.


GRAD 2020

Two $1000 Scholarships!

The Sidney and Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society is offering two $1000 Scholarships for Grade 12 students pursuing post-secondary studies in the Arts. See Mrs. Loukes in the Career Centre for application information.


Dry Grad Meeting

The next Dry Grad meeting is TUESDAY Feb 4th @7pm in the Learning Commons. All Coordinators are asked to attend this very important meeting.

Dry Grad Fundraiser – Thrifty Smile Cards

One easy way to support the 2020 Dry Grad is to use a Thrifty Foods Smile Card for your grocery shopping. Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the dollars you load on to your pre-assigned Smile Card to the 2020 Dry Grad. Smile Cards can be picked up at the Claremont office. Questions? Parents As Education And Career Coaches – TONIGHT

Are you the parent of a high school student? Would you like to help them with their post-secondary choices? This is an interactive workshop designed to give you the skills and confidence you need. Educational Planner is presenting "Parents as Education and Career Coaches" TONIGHT, 6:30 pm, at Stelly's Secondary School. Is it FREE! No need to pre-register...just come! Peninsula Youth Clinic 

For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
